I have a feeling he wasn't saying objectively, but based on him saying 'Django made me uncomfortable, at points' that he just liked it better, and considering it was copying Tarantino's style a bit (haven't seen the movie, just based off their description) that it was similar but less about the racism and more about showing that the 'Western' period of history was a bit more diverse than you've been shown in movies before.

I'm not. I think Tarantino is vastly over glorified. I believe that his movies, when you remove overly stylized violence, good music and ridiculous plot twists have very little left to offer. You saw teasers/trailers... I've actually seen the entire movie on a cinema screen/in theater. Sure, everyone isn't covered in dust throughout _every frame_ of the film, but for the somewhat light-hearted, heavy action, fun time that it is, things get dirty & absolutely bloody. Start to conclusion.
@m.worthy3 жыл бұрын
Say whatever you need to say to attempt to disparage something you apparently haven't even seen. In the teasers/trailers alone you see U.S. troops wearing post-Civil War specific uniforms, and throughout the movie the various characters, extras, weapons, towns...everything...are just as period appropriate as in any other Western I've ever seen. Not even the reviewers in this video, who've actually watched the movie, are making up ignorant (reaching) comments, yet based on what you need to tell yourself you've prejudged something and imagined a film where the cast wears spotless tuxedos throughout, Gucci, Nike, shoots Benelli M4s, and the characters all drive German luxury vehicles. Casting...Set design...Any of the cast members (as depicted throughout the film), could look like someone from the time period the movie takes place within. There are also multiple locations and sets throughout the film, which would fit in any Western ever created. But no, you need to create fallacies as if the movie was instead filmed on-location at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore or inside the Mall of Qatar. Jaymes Samuel, the producers, and all involved have successfully created something which I have reason to imagine you have never created yourself (and won't). Based off of the ignorant comment you spouted, I can't imagine you've even seen the movie. Here we see Kermode and Mayo reviewing something they actually watched (and enjoyed!), and one doesn't hear them making up bs like the ignorance you've put forth.

Having watched the movie Oct.23, in a cinema, it is as good or more entertaining as many of the flawed Westerns that have been praised throughout the past coupla decades. It ain't no _'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'_ (in terms of a moody/solemn artistic achievement), but I enjoyed it as much or more than various Westerns such as 'The Long Riders', 'Tombstone', 'Appaloosa', '3:10 to Yuma', 'Old Henry', etc.... 'The Harder They Fall' was well executed _(script, dialogue, camera techniques/cinematography, the acting, and the score/soundscapes!)_ . My girl and I had a great/fun time watching it in the cinema and after it concluded, it was obvious that the diverse audience we shared the experience with were also pleased with what they watched and how they'd spent their time & money. Did you work on this production? Is this why you are trying to sell it so hard? I agree with you that it's no 'The Assassination of Jesse James..........' but it is also no 'Tombstone' either. It's a middle of the road Netflix release is all. Nothing truly memorable about it.
@m.worthy3 жыл бұрын
It isn't about tryin' to _"sell"_ anything, but if I knew you and someone rumored that _you often pushed old people down stairs, stole from children, had 10 bloodied gold knives, and hung out with questionable Catholic priests_ , if I actually knew you and knew those comments were lies or things said to mislead, cause prejudice, and sully your character, I'd probably say something if I heard the mischaracterizations, and/or straight up lies (in part by many who never even met you before). Meanwhile, I have zero regard for the mass of non-quality Netflix offerings. That said, for many *_'The Harder They Fall'_* will be as positively regarded (and remembered) as other better movies on Netflix, which were also first limited theater releases _prior_ to being available to stream via Netflix _('The Irishman', 'The King', etc.)._ *_'The Harder They Fall'_* apparently won't be "memorable" for you, but it is already (and will be) memorable to a world filled with other voices who enjoyed/loved it _(some even more than 'the likes of 'Tombstone')_ and will also be welcoming of it should there be a sequel (as seemingly hinted at)...📽🤠💥🐎🎬 Nah, as I said, this *_Jeymes Samuel_* creation is not *_'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'_* (another favorite of mine), because it was meant to mean something else, be something else, have its own tones, and do something else. _All which it greatly succeeded at._ 📽🤠💥🐎🎬
@FrankChafe3 жыл бұрын
I came into this movie wanting it to succeed. The quality of the actors and characters alone is worth the price of admission. Overall I have 4 issues with the film. First, too many characters. Could have cut the number in half, given more time for each and develop them out so that we feel emotionally connected and invested in them and told the same story and saved characters for a sequel. Second, the Redwood City Set looked exactly like that, a set. The church and the sheriffs house at the opposite end of the street looked and felt artificial. With a couple of unnecessary lens flares, these 2 elements cheapened what was otherwise a wonderfully shot movie and took me out of the story and action as a result. Third, the music occasionally was both great, and seemed artificial. Lastly, plot driven accuracy in the gun fights was way too obvious. With some people almost firing in slow motion compared to the hero or villain respectively or missing repeatedly and then hitting every single shot when its called for. This is something that's a huge pet peeve, especially when its obvious like in this show. I in the end enjoyed it and will probably watch it again, which means it couldn't have been that bad. But, I feel some easy fixes could have made it significantly better.

The Army had to drop the riffles now those would expend empty casings after being cocked to fire another shot but they would have had to pick up the riffles during the execution. so nope the casing are not raining due to a couple of guys lucky enough to pick up the riffle and shoot by the time they shot at point blank. Next the six shooters dont eject used shells like a dam glock would so this really pulled me out of the movie and made it a stupid scene for me. Next we see the Saloon what's her name owns and runs. so you telling me they got Black light areas and luxury synthetic leather booths?? come on again this pulled me out of the movie. Then some of the actors did a great job creating old western lingo and accents while others just created 1970's Blaxploitation jive mixed with modern thuggen hood speak, again removing me from moments of the time period. Also lots of characters was real but ethnic swap from Native indian gang to a black gang whooops oh well history is optional in a period piece like this lol. Also everyone is well dressed and very clean, i mean its the west need some grittiness. And then the all white town was painted so white and clean it almost made me hurl lol but yea i get it, Blaxploitation is back baby. The characters in trailers that you see "killing innocents" are not the _"heroes"_ of the movie. That group is the Rufus Buck gang, and they are the main antagonists throughout the film. Kinda in the vein of the actual outlaw Rufus Buck gang (and Cherokee Bill)...There are actual "heroes" and/or at least protagonists who do collude with Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves _(Delroy Lindo)._

@@m.worthy Ah, good. The trailer left me concerned cold blooded murderers were being lauded.
@m.worthy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I even questioned that _before_ I actually watched the movie. Also those soldiers which the "bad guys" kill, well, to put things in context, that particular group of soldiers had done some unlawful/unpleasant things to the "innocent" citizens of a town. The U.S. government/authorities wanted those troops to be dealt with. So, "bad guys" kill bad guys 💡. Something else casual viewers can't discern from seconds of a teaser/trailer for a 2(+)-hour movie. Context.

I saw this at the London Film Festival and loved it. It has to be seen on the big screen. I also agree that it's better than Django Unchained.

I liked this but I kept getting "bootleg Django" vibes and some of it was overly stylistic in a direct copy of Tarantino's whole style, except not as well done. Like if you're gonna rip something off you gotta be able to do it BETTER, not just good.

this movie full of blatant inaccuracies the became movies funny. just a few: lots and lots of gold plated guns. , main song is all about how fast the singer can shoot this ' Glock 17' ,complete disregard on how guns work and are engineered . example : bad guys executing soldiers on a train with single action revolvers in slow mo. and keep switching scenes too empty brass hitting the floor as is from a automatic pistols. for real lol , the bank money was modern dollar bills ...... this movie would make a good drinking game movie .. you have to drink every time you spot inaccuracies
@m.worthy3 жыл бұрын
Revolvers don't eject spent shell casings, but your comment has _"blatant"_ lies. ▪️ There are no _modern U.S. dollar bills_ in the movie. ▪️ There are not "lots and lots of gold plated guns" in the movie. The lead villian character _(Rufus Buck)_ his two pistols with gold-plating, which are only shown at the start and towards the conclusion of a _2 hour & 17 or so minute_ fictional Western. There is also a brashly over-confident braggadocious young character _(Jim Beckworth)_ who has two pistols with _only the cylinder part_ of each seemingly gold-plated. Absolutely fits that character's youthful self-confidence (or arrogance). Beyond those two examples, there are no gold-plated guns in this Western _('The Harder They Fall')_ with "lots and lots" of guns, and certainly not a gold-plated gun that is shown throughout the entire movie. Spent shell casings comment aside _(apparently a visual for stylized entertainment theatrics!)_ , *you're misleading at best, and lying at worst.*

I thought this film was awful, opened really well and gave us good reason to get behind the protagonist but it was shortly after this when our guy was beaten up by his ex and then put in cuffs twice! This really took away from his cool’ness shall we say. Although it was nice to see the cast of ‘This Christmas’ back together
