The HARDEST 2.2 Platformer Level | I WANNA BE THE GUY Complete

The first 2.2 extreme demon platformer level is here, and oh my god this is SO HARD. It will be exciting to see platformer skill develop with time, as it is so different from regular geometry dash, but it was so satisfying being able to pull this off. It will be impossible to judge these vs regular geometry dash levels in terms of difficulty, so I will be splitting my extreme demon spreadsheet into 2. 1 page for regular levels, and 1 for platformer, just for simplicity. I can see this becoming the cataclysm for 2.2 platformers, and be the standard for easy extremes, but it could also very well end up as an insane demon with time. I really can't tell because I am still super bad at platformers.

I feel like this level is probably the best introduction we could have gotten to really difficult platformer levels, it might not contain other gamemodes but it really helps you to get used to the physics and even introduced some pretty interesting gameplay gimmicks, I really liked the 'ladder' from checkpoint 6 for example because it felt fresh and interesting

tip for anyone trying to beat this: wait for the camera to completly transition to the next room before grabbing a checkpoint, this will make it so that you don't have to watch the camera move every single attempt

I personally think this would take far shorter an amount of time for a beginner to attain the skill to do than for that person to get the skill to beat cataclysm, but I might be biased from having beaten super meat boy and I wanna be the guy when I was like 7 lol, Idk if I have good perspective on this kinda stuff

no I'd say this is definitely true, I have a feeling actual platformer difficulty ratings for demons are going to change a lot or alternatively we just shouldn't compare platformer demon difficulties to normal demon difficulties. This will probably come off as a steaming hot take rn but I honestly don't see this level even being above a low-end insane demon in the future as we all get progressively better and more accustomed to platformer over the years to come. Heck I could even see this being moved to hard demon if history repeats itself and platformers go through something similar to the insane difficulty inflation we had around the late 2015 to 2017 era of the game where stuff like Nine Circles dropped from Extreme to Hard Demon and Decode from Insane to Easy demon (albeit a lot of that was from fps bypass, but still). Of course I'm just theorizing but I have a feeling its definitely possible.

I predict there's gonna be 3 lists for platformer in GD. First is the difficulty list, for the hardest first try platformers. Then there's gonna be the speedrun list, for speedrunning levels in top like 50-75 only since more would be way too much work, and then the list for top platformer players, which would be determined by levels beaten at what time.

Hey, as someone who has been playing GD since 1.9 (so about early 2015), I would personally start off with “The Tower”, which is on the level select screen, and is 3 platform levels made by RobTop, as well as some Easy and Normal rated platform levels, to get a gist of the controls, before diving into this level.

So, fun fact about this level: the name of the level is based off of "I Wanna be The Guy: The Game" which is a very, very, VERY brutal troll/precision platformer that demends perfection. Seriously, I've seen speedruns of the actual game and it looks insane. Imagine the GD level as a demo for the actual game (May link a speedrun of the game)

I think there should be separate difficulties for platformer extremes and normal extremes. Unless the checkpoints are made to stay after exiting the level then I dont feel like me, who has 0 platfromer game experience and bloodbath as a hardest, beating an EXTREME DEMON in just over an hour is fair. This level is tough, but it doesn't really seem like it's the same caliber -- or requires the same amount of time investment -- as a lot of the 2.1 extreme demons. In a year or so this will probably be considered a medium or hard demon.

I think it was destined that IWBTG-likes would dominate the difficulty rankings at least in the beginning considering how gd's platformer mode has a lot of the same mechanics and there's already a lot of conceptual groundwork laid down from those fangames. I think later though people will find other ways to make platformers obscenely difficult like jetpack mode and making less use of checkpoints.
