I use to love hiking in that area 40 years ago. Spring was lush in a wet year, fall was pleasant, winter was also nice, Summer was too hot during mid-day, but good from dawn to about 10 or 11am. Thanks for the vid.

Enjoyable video as always! Thirty years ago I lived in Goleta and Paradise was my go to for Biking, swimming and fishing. My most memorable ride was on the way to Jameson, dropped my bike and punctured my water bottle. It was summer and I was a bit hungover. Before I noticed, I was out of water. On the way out feeling laggy from dehydration I was chased by a bear. Best ride ever.

Beautiful scenery. Just when you think your ride is done comes not one but two water crossings. I have vivid flashbacks of wet shoes during pour down rain rides.

Re the Crocs. I went from plimsoles and socks to Clearwater Keen closed toe sandals and no socks for cycling footwear. It has transformed my cycling experience in warm/hot weather. ....and no need to carry Crocs.... Highly recommended.

So blessed to live in Santa Barbara County. Growing up with all these backroads and hiking trails is awesome. Love seeing other people enjoying them. We would drive up Figueroa Mountain from Los Olivos and come down the Santa Barbara side into Camino Ceilo all the time. Have not done it on a bike though.

One of my favorite SB backcountry loops...in either direction (I sort of prefer going the opposite direction you went, i.e. descend Angostura and up Arroyo Burro...just because the dirt climb is shorter). We'll typically do this loop starting in Goleta, and accessing it via Old San Marcos and Painted Cave. So, basically combining your last 2 ride videos! THAT's a fun "adventure" :-)

Your summation at the end seemed really accurate--it was just an adventure. Love that kind of ride and trying to do more of them myself. So thank you for this! You've commented a couple times over this past month of ride vids that you're working your way into climbing shape (and seem successful!). As someone who is a little older than you and lives in a very "climb-ey" region, 3000 feet sounds daunting (I get plenty winded doing even 1000), so I'd love to hear any tips you have on doing climb-ey rides if you aren't in peak shape (for those of us who can't get out all the time). Route selection and "get low gearing" are obvious but I wonder if you try to stay under a certain heartrate, break every 500' of elevation, etc.

me too - although Bosch may arguably have the most efficient e-bike drive system, I'd like to hear if "range anxiety" comes into play on these rides. Maybe, a long-term review update (of her initial Niner ebike review).

Great video! Thanks. I want to ask Laura; I have knee problems from missing meniscus and pieced together tibial plateau in addition to bone Spurs. I have been considering an ebike because the pain limits my riding but feel like in some ways I would be “giving up” by not riding my “normal” bikes. Does that seem stupid and would Laura see the ebike remaining one of her N+1 stable even after she feels she is fully recovered? I’m not trying to buy her bike, just trying to understand how she feels about ebikes in general and their place in our lives as people who love to ride. Maybe a good video topic if you didn’t want to respond here. Thank you.
