The first cinematic was the story of Elder Jinchi and how he had a unhealthy obsession with the Kasaya and wanted it for himself. He contrived to get it, and in doing so started a fire, that consumed the temple. He was friends with Black Bear Guai his whole life, so he was not possessed by the bear, but by greed and want for earthly possessions. When you fight Elder Jinchi, he mentions the Kasaya and thinks you "stole" it from him. This artwork is so good, and this game is really a masterpiece. I am so glad they waited so many years to put it out. It so good, and challenging and is rich with Chinese lore. Love it! Wish I would have known ahead of time, that if I killed the little rat first (which makes the big son even harder to beat) I could absorb the son as a spirit :( I will get them the second run of the game LOL!

A bit of correction. Just a bit. So we know jinchi had Guangmou and the other one with the snake. Guangmou is a guai who wants to be human but each time he transforms into one eventually other people discovered he is a guai. So he learned under the tutelage of jinchi. He is always very loyal to jinchi and grateful. When he saw his master desired the kasaya used by Tang Sanzang. He tried to get it by making a fire to cause a commotion and steal the kasaya for his master. The fire was only suppose to be in Tang Monks bedroom. Wukong the ever clever monkey he is discovered the scheme and protected his master using the fire mantle that was I think borrowed from Lao Tzu (this I might be wrong). He dispersed the fire to the rest of the temple (I think personally he wanted to take a bit of lesson to the mastermind). You can see a tiny hint where when the temple is burning wukong just sits on a tree and didnt do anything in a scene. Jinchi seeing the temple on fire was finally able to realize his greed had caused him and decided to take his life. Guangmou felt guilty about it and decided to seclude himself and used the spear red tide with the fire as a way to always reminds him of the tragedy. Black guai after getting the relic tried to revive jinchi but it is imperfect can be seen by the baby we fought. Then after the 3 bells are rung the soul of jinchi comesback or rather the attachment to the kasaya he still has before his realization of the tragedy remained. He is stuck in a loop of desire of that kasaya until the destined one killed him
