Spearmen are not an effective counter to knight/archer because they can get kited by the archers while chasing the knights. Javelin throwers are only really good against other ranged units. The only frontline unit the Malians get that has ranged armor is the Sofa, and Malian archers are actually not terrible against armored units because of Poisoned Arrows and Precision Training. I think in age III the Malians need to just mirror Joan's unit comp here. Also, a knight/archer army has pretty weak torch damage, if the Malians have to fight Joan in age II, an outpost costs less resources than one javelin thrower, has 750 HP or effectively 2000 HP if they have to bust down a palisade wall to get to it, and lowers the damage output of knights and archers attacking it dramatically, and denies xp to Joan. I think preemptively going full turtle would make a lot of sense - I think that's how they're intended to be played, judging by the Banco Repairs tech they get in Feudal.

OP or not, she breaks the counter system and that's not cool imo. Spears are obsolete against her with that AOE she does and you can't always avoid fighting her in feudal especially in team games. I'd play one of the other rts/rpg games if I wanted heroes.

Didn't playtest it in game, but maybe poison is actually the counter to Joan as the Malians? It ignores armor and is ranged, so, in theory, it should do the trick.

But is her -50%/-66% range damage resistance armor? I would guess the arrow still deals 1 DMG but the DoT aka the venom gets applied like usual and deals it's regular not modified/reduced damage each tick BUT Jean got a huge health pool and since it's not % based but a absolute DMG per tick it wouldn't really do much. I would think 5 Donsos in 5 seconds would deal more damage to her than poison ticking on her the whole fight. But I'm interested to be proven wrong by somebody testing it

​@@ST9876543 Yeah, but on the other hand, you can use a mass of archers built during feudal and then upgrade it with poison. Sometimes that ability to have a timing push/power spike on an existing mass of units is the only thing a tech needs to be relavant. ...But it could also not work at all. It's a theoretical idea I just had watching the video. ...Problem is, I am definitely not the best person to test the idea. I'm too low level and don't have enough time to play a statistically significant amount of games with this matchup using a civ that is very far from being part of my mains. XD

All four units types of infantry/ranged was the answer there for ML. Got to consider that positioning will prevent the counters from applying with the units he chose to use so mix in some general infantry and poison arrows and he'd have held longer.

i think the worst part about this dlc is that im a french main, jeanne is op, and i hate playing jeanne. she's just too dependant on the micro and random spawns tbh its not fun having to adapt your strategy of expansion only for her to collect XP. I would probably enjoy the civ a lot more if she just leveled up with ages.

Yeah, I also noticed the army value is completely irrelevant. It always prices my longbows as 40 res unit convincing me I took good trades, while I'm doing awfully

Btw guys can we petition relic for the ability to mute the sirens or pings? Or at least soften the sound? I deal with headaches and holy shit it drives me crazy when there 2 dozen sirens and 3 allies pinging all over the map. If I could just SEE the pings on the map, and the siren went off once, I could then just know I need to check my mini map for flashes or hit spacebar. I don't need 8 sirens in 10 secs. thanks. Chinese players often also spam pings and ping EVERY single thing they do as if we have time to keep looking at every move they make. I left a game today because some troll was spamming pings because I asked him to stop ( of course, natural reaction )

Jeanne is abit ridiculous how you can insta spawn it back in… always feel when I kill it that its alot of effort for very little reward. Should be a 3-5 min timer before it can spawn or if killed it loses all exp and back to square one.

yeah, sorry to join the ranks of the gold-ranked balance whiners but jeanne needs to be nerfed. Even on the professional levels you see how easy it is for her to level up and it is soo much harder to play vs her, then playing her and it is literally the only civ in the game that currently makes me hate it, because it feels so unbalanced and unfair in favour of jeanne.
