Single target doton was a thing up until ShB. So when I play the job to relevel it I sometimes revert back to my old ways 😅 super old muscle memory that comes back if I haven't played it in a while and I have to fight the urge. During half the leveling process to 90 for ninja I was STILL doing ST doton. Idk why that skill is just ingrained into my ST building blocks of ninja

it sucks for console players because they have finite buttons, PC on the other hand, u can set up the skills in order of use, Ten, jin, chi for instance cant be put in a line with ninjutsu next to it, making it so u just push the three in a row, and activate the skill u want, then below it having a different set with ninjutsu at the end again, at least thats how i do it, makes the class stupid easy to play after.

Glad to see Monk at the top, makes me feel better when I suck at it lol I always love the martial arts aesthetic but not performing the best (even for someone that just plays casually) made me feel bad but I think Dawntrail Monk is definitely gonna get easier. I feels confusing to just imagine the rotation but it's definitely gonna be easier to actually play it This also makes me curious where Viper is gonna go in a future list like this. Definitely gonna be harder than Reaper but that's just based on the way it looks or was described in the media tour so who knows. Great content btw!

About Monk and Perfect Balance at 50, the use I found for it would be to use it to loop Dragon Kick -> Bootshine -> Dragon Kick after your initial 3 hit combo. After that, you spam Dragon Kicks because they're your highest damage gcd (and you don't lose the Leaden Fist buff from wrong stanced DKs), until the twin snakes buff falls off then move on to twin snakes, refresh Demolish, use the Leaden Fist buff on Bootshine, then it's time for another DK->BS->DK->DK->DK->TwS->Demo. In Dawntrail, for Level 50-59 content you'll be using PB for whichever flavour of 3 x OpoOpo GCDs you need. Not sure if there's any point to PB in AoE though for 50-59 though since it still won't give you formless fist afterwards until you get to Masterful Blitz at 60. If you did it'd be for three Rockbreakers, which would mean losing 10 potency on one Arm of the Destroyer for 3x 130 potency hits. Feels like a fair trade on second thoughts. RIP Dragon Kick rotation I will miss you 5ever.

Monk was the first job I started with. The fact that other Melee jobs have many more oGCD buttons, can't cleanly switch from single target to AOE and have a more complicated burst/filler interaction are too much for my brain. Granted, I don't think I'm a very good monk, but I make an *even worse* anything else.

I'm a monk main since starting playing during Shadowbringers and have omni jobbed--much to your point about maining bias, I of course do not find monk difficult and have even healer-pained astrologian despite the similar sentiment about the difficulty of that job. I find it satisfying to set up my GCDs while also having a lot of flexibility to react to whatever the situation calls for. Oddly enough I find ninja and dragoon more difficult with their rotations, especially ninja. In casual content I get by fine but the times I've queued in to certain raids or trials with them and it's just a sad time lol.

I tried in vain to get Ninja to 90 before the Dawntrail maintenance so I could experience it before the fairly significant Huton overhaul - got it to level 83. While I think it's not as hard as Monk, my main issue with it in terms of difficulty was that it feels like you're trying to juggle a lot of disparate things at once, and you don't have that much time to catch your breath. You have to spend a Ninjitsu charge every 20 seconds, upkeep your Huton every 60 seconds, set up a Trick Attack burst where you've held several Ninjustu charges and NInki Gauge attacks every 60 seconds and you damn better make sure you're not late on your Trick Attack because if you are it messes up your Mug window. It always feels like while I'm trying to time something, something else is going wrong - I'm thinking about setting up a Suiton 20 seconds or less before my Trick Attack comes off comes off cooldown, but oops, I've now missed my Ninki Gauge overcapping, better weave that... Oh, great, now I've panicked so hard I've forgotten to press Kassatsu so that's drifted 5 seconds... Oh, God, while I was dealing with that my Huton has run out, I better reapply it... Oh, damn damn damn my Suiton is about to run out, better press Trick Attack, but now all of my resources are half-spent and all my cooldowns are 5-10 seconds out of sync with Mug. It feels like I'm juggling a lot more plates on Ninja than on most other jobs, and being even slightly off balance just cascades me into nothing lining up.

Great vid as usual, for RPRs one of the things that makes it easier in the eyes of many is the fact that is a less punishing job when it comes to correcting mistakes prior to even minute bursts, most jobs will have you losing most of the resources you need for these windows while RPRs only lose half. On that same note, Triple Enshroud becomes a thing in fights where you lose around 3 GCDs due to uptime, which allows you to pool a 3rd Enshroud at the end of your even minute window by sacrificing the one you do during your odd minute window, this not only flexibilices RPR's bursts by allowing you not to lose as many resources over the course of a fight, it also enables a quick minded player to minimize the impact of a party member's death prior to these windows, because if as a result of said death their buff is now misaligned, RPRs can pick it up with that 3rd Enshroud, this also increases the risk for the RPR, because the more resources you pool into an even minute window, the more you risk over capping and the more you'll lose if you die, 2/3 of your burst for triple Enshroud vs 1/2 for the traditional double Enshroud. Personally I love RPR, a very easy to pick up DPS that has a surprising amount of flexibility and skill expression.

Just returned to FF14 a few days ago and decided to level Monk. I left it at 30 when I last played, but made my way to 60 before servers went down. Gotta say, it did feel like a handful at first with the combos and positioning. I main Paladin so it's quite the change. But after a while on a dummy for a bit, and some Leveling Roulettes, it kind of didn't feel hard. I'm hoping I can hang on to the balancing act as I go further into levels.

As someone that started the game as a Monk back in StB, I'm a little surprised to still see it considered to be the hardest melee. Feels like every rework they've just made it simpler and more forgiving; to the point where it personally feels a bit boring nowadays. But no other job I've tried has really felt as fun as Monk for me, so I'm kinda just stuck wishing I had my old positionals and the funny Double TK rotation from StB :,) Hoping Viper will be a nice break/side-job for a bit with it's speed + DoT/Buff (that it definitely didn't steal from Monk in DT lmao)

Shadowbringers monk was way easier than dt. 6 basic combo buttons with a few ogcds, your burst phase was just dragon shiny boots. (Alternating dragon kick and bootshine) and that was it. It had 6 positional sure bit those were hard muscle memory for mains. Lastly if your rotation got way fked you just hit dragon kick 1 or 2 times Ina row to realign it. It was so forgiving. I miss it tbh

The part about the mudras being oGCD is also why when they gave NIN Armor Crush, they had to go back a patch or two later and reduce the TP costs of some of the abilities. Even though Ninjutsu had a shorter animation lock than other oGCDs, quad-weaving once a minute to keep Huton up still drifted your GCDs enough to noticeably impact your TP consumption. Another part of why Shuriken was so close to Raiton is because at the time NIN had two poisons that boosted physical damage done, boosting Shuriken to much closer to Raiton than it looked like on paper.

I'd agree with MNK. I've been a Monk main since ARR, but even still I will admit it is the hardest to play. I miss my positionals, which also added difficulty in previous expansions. But the constant flow and changes depending on the fights is what made the job fun and interesting for me through EW. Going into DT, I don't see that changing much. The loss of the buffs and DoT in favor for the potency boosts will be much less punishing, but a Monk's rotation between those mini bursts will still likely have to adjust some with fight design.

Monk for me is mostly EXECUTING stuff properly. Figuring out how the job should work is still ok but I just cannot execute it for the life of me. However the info that screwing up the filler isn't such a huge deal was new to me. Let's see the jobs will change in Dawntrail. Things can change fast. I was unable to play SMN up to Endwalker and in Endwalker it suddenly clicked once I understoof the rotation. Felt amazing to pull it off for the most part.

I can’t really disagree with any of these rankings. Reaper took a while to learn the whole buttons transforming mechanic, but now, yeah it’s really easy, especially since your burst enshroud doesn’t need positionals. Samurai took a while to figure out the filler with the Hagakure, which I imagine will be a bit different at level 100 with the Tendo Iaijutsu having longer recast times. Dragoon’s big hangup for me is the soon to be removed Dragon Sight. Double weaving on controller while having to change targets to a party member is painful. It got to the point I made a macro specifically to switch to that target and a second button to use Dragon Sight. Seemed to be the only way to get around the jank of a macro specifically using dragon sight. Ninja, took a long time to get used to that burst, and I still flub the Ninjutsu from time to time. The worst is when I either end up using Hyoton by mistake because my brain forgets “That’s only with Kassatsu” or using Raiton because I forget Kassatsu is active. Monk, I am looking forward to the update that removes having to watch two separate timers to maintain max damage. Even so, this is a job I almost cannot optimize because of less than stellar hardware. All of these are going to be harder in DawnTrail because I’ll need to tear myself away from Viper to play them 😂

I find reaper just not satisfying to play for some reason. The GCD is kind of dull and I always forget to apply the blue thing before positional. I only enjoy the enshroud bursts especially if I get two of them Samurai is fun actually, big hits when they come up, and yes not much to manage, and the Ogi Namakiri and shoha (rip shoha 2 but why have namakiri and shoha 1 both being single target?) feels good to have. Does being a WAR main that is strangely comfy with DNC explain anything?

I think having all that time to level and grow with the classes from 1 to 90 is offsets the difficulty at the end. You can take your time learning each new ability every couple levels. Whereas if you start a whole new class half the way through AND it's way more difficult? I can see people bouncing off of the new class more often than not.

Rest in Peace Endwalker Monk, i miss you already. I will say, Dragoon is evil with how slight skill speed or downtime affects the weaving windows when skills come off cooldown, which means you either clip the gcd or drift by 0.5s, which feels terrible, thankfully it doesn't matter too much if you are still using things in buffs. (Or worse, die at any point and exist in purgatory for the rest of the pull)

Weird thing how people percieve things differently. I just picked Reaper yesterday - I have three mains, on in each class at level 90 - and I'm trying to level up all the other classes equaly. So, I enjoyed level 70 reaper very much and I find it very fun and smooth to play - but I also think the SAME about level 70 Ninja and Monk. Those three are my favorite melee classes to play and I don't feel that any of them is particulary hard - mainly comparing one to another.

NIN main here. that summary sums it up alright. To me, NIN is the easiest job,. Reason: the filler is such a no brain duty. You don't build up resources and gauges leading to the burst. When it's time, just shoot out everything. Even in savage, as long as you don't lose out usage in anything, you're gucci. Even far before i learnt about optimizing stuffs in my burst (suboptimal PK and bhavra buildup inside TA), I got blue-purple parses anyways, it's really no biggie. Though I admit, learning the opener and burst sequences (even the suboptimal ones) take a bit of time meanwhile SAM i need to count how to get 3 stamps ready by burst, especially in fights with downtime

I main MNK myself, also agree that Optimal Drift is overwhelming and can make it sound hard. But actually, the core filler loop is easy to follow. The standard looping lunar-solar is not that hard. In fact, the damage difference between loop and optimal drift is not that much. If you not playing for high parse, the looping version is enough.

I've leveled monk and ninja to 90 twice and I still have no idea how to play them. I found them completely unintuitive to play "correctly" and the more I learned (using guides because the game doesn't teach you) the less I liked them and it became something I actively wanted nothing to do with. I have a feeling that's fairly widespread. I rarely if ever see a "bad" ninja or monk. You either learn it or you don't and play something else.

As a mnk main I will kick you in the shins if you spam dragon kick. It's not a hard rotation it's just different from usual 1-2-3 so when you learn this job after many others it's hard to break your habit. The only difficult part of monk is to not get stuck in long animations when bootshine fills your chakras. But that's will be fixed in dawntrail with you having higher cap on how much chakras you can hold. So now it's gonna be piss easy.

The only thing I can complain about monk is I don't like perfect balance being it's own button and wish it was connected to the other buffs like connecting them to the riddles and if you do the proper sequence the riddles stack while doing the wronf sequence stops them from stacking but I can see that stopping the free form idea of monk so I'm unsure truly how to describe it

The hardest thing for me with all of the meeles is.... you guessed it: PING! With reaper and dragoon it's the weaves. Enshroud will always clip single weaves, and dragoon's animation locks can sometimes clip even on a single weave depending on the day. With Ninja it's mudras being ghosted (getting a bunny that isn't your own fault is the worst). Samurai is mostly fine since it's more flexible and Monk is also fine though the shift from buffs to the new UI element might end up making monk easier than SAM for me.

It's hard to say I "main" any job or even role, as it changes almost every savage tier, my group likes to switch and play around to keep things interesting and fun for everyone. Monk, however, is my favorite job in the game and has been since ARR despite all the changes it has gone through, and it looks like it probably still will be with the DT changes. Actually kinda surprising to see monk at the top, and by such a large margin, I'd have expected Ninja. Might be main bias I guess, i have done savage on monk but not on ninja yet, but i'unno

MCH, NIN, DNC and RPR are the Jobs I leveled to 90. NIN would be my main, with MCH and DNC being 2nd, with RPR being the last one I leveled to 90; I barely played RPR, huge parts of the RPR levels came from beast tribe quests or low level roulettes. And yeah for me RPR is indeed harder than NIN, but only because it's the one I played the least (Heck, until now I thought Cross Reaping and Void Reaping had positionals like Gibbet and Gallows, oof). Even the fact that you HAVE to combo the spender oGCDs into the Gibbet/Gallows/Guillotine GCDs just felt off to me. Jobs with anything more going on in between bursts than NIN tend to be harder for me - so probably every Job except DNC. I also really like MCH, but the small mistakes I make from time to time just hurt the rotation so much (entering Hypercharge when a Tool is soon off CD, etc). I just like only having to think every one/two minutes, as opposed to "having to slightly think every 10 seconds" It's just a prime example of me playing NIN since like MSQ lvl 30, having a natural progression up to 90 vs RPR which I just kinda picked up at 70 and ran some low lvl roulette with from time to time. If NIN was a Job you could just pick up at lvl 70, I would have most likely been like "haha, hell no tf is that" when looking at the hotbar and mudras.

I feel the thinking behind this guide and the attitude of the voters means it doesn't apply to 80%+ of the player base. Drifting is a concept that doesn't exist for 80% of players, heck positionals and capping resources don't mean anything to 80% of players. If you use the term "window" they think you are talking about housing. The only thing that matters to most players, especially those not doing savage+ is ease of learning and the ability to just sorta generally mash buttons and get maybe 50-75% of your class's DPS potential out in more than 50% of situations, and by "situations" I mean Duty Finder and Alliance Raids etc. By that measure Samurai is the easiest by a lightyear, followed by Reaper (similar design principles to Samurai) and then a toss-up between Ninja and Dragoon (with dragoon being easier to learn but Ninja being easier to pull off). Monk is neither easy to learn nor easy to be consistent with for Joe Average. People who are into optimisation are going to have a completely different outlook to the above but that ain't 80% of players.

My opinion Sam and chipmunk are the hardest I got monk to 50 and just could not continue due to being boring and mental taxing Samurai 2 friends were in vc with me and one was explaining how to set up the hotbar My brain Was melting I tried getting it thru again years later and someone was explaining for console how to set it up Melting intensifys

I started releasing monk back then and wanted the job back then... (I love fist fighters) Today I feel stupid, I feel like I have to study to do the job well. and stopped the job from 60 to 90 leveling at 80. i hope Viper will be a good job for a casual player for me

I like all the melee jobs but my lizard brain has trouble playing anything other than RPR and SAM. Which is a shame since DRG is one of my favs in lore, aesthetics and FF legacy.

I think for me personally the easiest thing to fuck up on reaper besides general gauge things is that if you use ANY action besides gibbet or gallows you lose the buff that allows you to cast it, wasting 50 gauge.. I hate that it works like that and not like warrior's infuriate buttons. You have to commit 1-2 gcds to spend that 50 gauge, or you lose half the benefit

mnk = i don't have the rhythm. nin = trick attack drifting. bring back old trick. drg = can't hold all these buttons. rep = melee mch sam = ezpz. punishing at lv80 but that will change in 7.0

Personally I would've rated samurai and dragoon closer but other than the result is as expected. I think samurai can potentially be a bit overwhelming based on the number of buttons you have to have on your hotbar (mostly looking at you shoha, shoha 2, hisatsu guren and hisatsu senei) plus, as you mentioned, having to try and form your rotation around raid buffs. Meanwhile Dragoons filler rotation being completely separate from their ogcd burst window means that, as long as you get your opener right, you can just wack-a-mole your ogcds and be fine 90% of the time. The biggest mistake you could make is accidently using jump when youre at 2 eyes open. Also i thought your preamble about DT being out soon was funny, considering the pre download for DT became available almost exactly at the same time as this video.

I would say the difference is tied to the lack of leniency in DRGs burst allignment, making it more similar to Nin. Granted this is going to change in Endwalker, when eyes wont lock your burst (so you can drift them all you want) and geirskogul going from a 30s to a 60s button, so it will be very similar to most jobs.

I've been theorycrafting VPR, and the same buttons being turned into different positionals is going to piss me off. 😅 If just mashing buttons, it'll probably be braindead easy, but hitting every positional right will be a nightmare for me.

The good news is that each loop will alternate positional, so if you switch your position after a positional you will at least know where to go next! 😅

@@CaetsuChaijiCh If the filler rotation continues nonstop, I would agree, but if I do stop it in favor of doing a burst, if I must intentionally fail a positional to respect a mech, or if I use True North, I will definitely lose track. I get that they made the weaponskill names Flank- and Hind-, but I will not be reading tooltips while actually playing 😅

As a NIN main since ARR: I definitely fall into the trap of feeling the job is extremely easy. It's gotten easier every expac since 5.1. I understand I'm biased and havebplayed the job for an unhealthy amount of time but I also feel that since it's so burst centric that helps ease the learning curve. Also: Our filler is the second-lamest filler out of the melee and we still haven't gotten any animation upgrades to the two that matter most Spinning and Aeolian. -Yes I'm salty.

Sam>Mnk>Nin Sam is very simple in rotation and very strong dps, for all jobs i played he is the most easy to play. Mnk is just like Gnb but dps and its like you are playing tekken, if you know how to do the 10 hit combo you are fine but if you dont then you are screwed Nin i dont need to say anything, 1 wrong ninjutsu combination and you get punished. I didnt put Drg and Rpr because i didnt play thoses 2 remaining jobs. Rpr will get his turn one day

If I would have voted, I would probably have voted Ninja as the hardest. Only really because I see Ninja being lower down the threat list than the healer more often. That said, I just got Monk to 60 and I have no idea how to make use of Perfect Balance (I think that's what it's called) and Blitz properly. Before that it seemed to mostly be keeping up your damage buff and DoT (single target, maybe also if 2 target) while alternating between Dragon Kick and Bootshine (since Dragon Kick gives a buff to Bootshine). Unless I have that entirely wrong and I'm just god awful at Monk.
@zordiark9673

Ninja itself just have its burst. Immediately after the Burst they SHOULD be right behind the Tanks in the Threat-List, but they fall off a cliff afterwards.

Generally, after applying buff/DoT, use the first PB for Dragon Kick/Bootshine spam, second PB to reapply buff/DoT, and third PB for Dragonkick/Bootshine spam again. I think you can also start with buff/DoT combo to adjust for post-opener downtimes. Also, during PB, always use either three _different_ form attacks or three _same_ form attacks. Two same w/ one different form attacks will get you Celestial Revolution or Flintstrike, which is basically the Monk equivalent of Mudra Rabbit.

If you're in a fight that lasts 2 minutes or more, the idea is to use it during the second minute to make your second big burst window line up with everyone else's.

False ! You can use trick attack on every boss one before level 45 if the tank brings it to the boss arena entrance and you stay hidden outside.

Mnk is so weird, it was very easy in shadowbringers, it was just its 6 basic combo skills with a few ogds, it was fun tho, ew made mnk so damn difficult and clunky feeling with the nadi system and aligning your buffs correctly with burst. I learned optimal drift which took a while and now thats dead in dt as well. They rework the damn job every expansion.

Honestly, MNK spooks people way more than it should, it actually feels very forgiving compared to a lot of other jobs but it's why I understand the changes in DT. It seems to play basically the same but without timers on top of it adding to the intimidation factor of the job. Same with NIN, the timer really wasn't necessary and it just makes it feel unapproachable for newer players IMO. I'm glad people are finally accepting SAM is easy lol, the way I got flamed for saying I thought BLM should have the highest DPS ceiling above SAM because it's much harder to play well for most people. The way some SAM mains came at me trying to act like it's actually the hardest job ever lol.
