for a tight mix (including low end and upper bass): VU meters!

The hardest problem is mastering a bad mix (where there's badly done eq, wrong balance etc.). You can't fix that.. The low end however is the no. 1 thing which is the hardest the do for the home studio guys because they just can't hear it properly. That's why mastering is so important these days.

you could also use Impact, reduce dynamics on the low band and turn auto-gain on. so it would tame the transient and bring up the body, without any intervention in phase and also with just one plugin. thank you for these techniques!

Other options based on other videos you've made would be to a) use TDR Infrasonic with Dyn Bump and harmonics to maintain that energy, or b) use Tone Projects Michelangelo to EQ the transients (but the compression and saturation could also help compensate). Is there a specific reason why you would choose how you did it with Ozone over those 2 or is it moreso just changing things up to keep it fun/fresh? Thanks for all your great tips!
@panorama_mastering
@panorama_mastering 5 ай бұрын
Possibly so! I wanted to offer accessible alternatives which everyone has (The HPF and the MB) as well as show how I actually did it in the sessioin; (Using ozone) I prefered Ozone over the options you mentioned because I wanted to be as transparent to the material as possible; come in, and leave without disrupting too much; Infrasonic also is a filter from 50hz and below; I did manipulate some of the lows from 100-200 in this example

Awesome ! for me you are Top 3 Mastering-Influencer-Engineer on YT. Always Good Tipps! Perhaps you could answer my question: when the Mix is 100% Perfect for you (and i mean EVERYTHING is 100% Perfect) what would you exactly do on the master-Bus? Perhaps just a limiter?

from trd? do you know if plugin alliance has one of there own? might be compelled to buy Infrasonic. how has it helped your mixes hapyshadow if you dont mind me asking?
@happyshadow
@happyshadow 4 ай бұрын
@@rickythethird High passing in mixing/mastering just doesn't often sound good because you loose that low end energy but Infrasonic allows you (in a really focused way) to find the sweet spot really quickly + it can add in a dynamic bump which compensates for that loss. You can also add in sub harmonics and 2nd/3rd order harmonics at the same time that can also help. I dont really like the sound of the sub harmonics as it sounds a bit cluttered to me but the 2nd and 3rd order harmonics sound great sometimes. Defiantly worth buying IMO especially as its not expensive at all!

I find low end fun and hard in equal doses. And referencing can really confuse this further, you think you’ve nailed it and boom another reference makes you unsure. Certain worth never going between genres as a rock low end it totally different to EDM due to the energy.

For me the hardest problem rn is to create that space and depth to a mix, iam a fan of mike deans mixes but i dont know how he is doing it feels like he creates so much space and cleanness that you can hear every vocal instrument and drum perfectly. Would be cool if you know how to create that kind of definition love ya videos

My main issue, even with all of these tools, is that the kick is just too loud IMO. Reducing the low end without being able to actually turn down the whole kick makes it feel a bit "donky" (is that a word?).
