Not gonna lie, I thought that Barb would be on the struggle bus playing this. Obviously I recognized the SMW skill, but I know he doesn't do shell hacks much and I thought this would be out of his wheelhouse. So help me out, are these shell tricks not as hard (compared to other kaizo obstacles) as I imagined they were? Or is Barb just kicking ass?

my dude, barb is like one of the top smw kaizo players by now (who streams anyway). he played so many insanely hard hacks (like for a living). he just doesnt like shell hacks from a gameplay perspective. doesnt mean he cant do them. P.s. This hack is very hard.

Only on the first level and this seems like this an annoyed barb video lol. Barb has videos where he enjoys the hacks and then he has videos where he just seems like he's not having fun. I prefer the ones when he's enjoying the hack. I still like watching him play the hacks it's just these kinds of videos are a bit less enjoyable. I think this one is because he went into it saying he avoids shell hacks cause he's done so many and people kept requesting him to play it. Just seems like he's not enjoying it too much.

I play using a PS5 controller on the SuperNT and my hands still hurt, just way less than they do when I try to grip the SFC controller trying to do shell stuff.

Shell Guy here: I guess in my case, my hands doesn't hurt because I got use to play this long sessions on shell hacks, but a lot of people who plays shell hacks, uses hitboxes, where you can use your whole hand on it.

so many legit great hot takes here. Like I don't mind mild shell kaizo if it's fun - Sure Shot was a great example of really great shell stuff. But like, this kind of shell hack just doesn't seem to flow that well or read that well - and even that isn't the end of the world, but tough isn't always fun and I love that you go over that. I really love tough, challenging experiences that are fun - but tough doesn't always mean fun, and it's a lot harder to make something very difficult that is also very fun.

This hack is sociopathic. I wouldn't even categorize it as fun--really more just infuriating. I have immense respect for you for being able to play it; you've just shot to the top of gamers I view in terms of assumed skill! The problem is that this hack has an immediate insane difficulty level that never lets up it's not something I would ever even want to try. Good gameplay needs to have a ramp up and high intensity areas with lower ones between to "catch your breath".

I agree. I don't play kaizo, but I really enjoy watching it. Hacks like this are exhausting even to watch, I can't imagine what they're like to play. The protracted level of intensity and fast reflexes that just *never let up*. There's no overarching rhythm or structure to the hack, no different styles of gampleplay. It's just all go all the time... Feels like a movie where the entire run-length is one hyper-intense action sequence. Beyond a point you just can't engage at that level any more and it becomes boring again in a weird way
