Amazing performance by all the women on the Tour this year. Just to put it into perspective, Ms. Ella Wyllie, finished 3’38” behind the winner this year and that was good for 73rd place. That’s how strong and competitive the racing was. Awesome job.

Nice job to these two young ladies. Being in the US, and approaching 60 , I do not have the ability to ride these except via Rouvy and interestingly, I rode them today, and Tourmalet basic tore my legs off over the last 4k. Just a brutal climb, I can not imagine doing that in person without stopping a lot.

Ella was awesome, great to see something from the female pros, definitely more of this type of content. Maybe you can get her back after the race and see how it went on the day. I am keen follower of triathlon (I know it's sinful) and the women there bring the fire as fiercely as the men, so its good to see pro road cycling catching up. I'm missing watching the Tour de France. I stopped watching it a few years back as I no longer have a TV License. It was probably the only live show I watched all year round and it wasn't really worth it for just one thing, I'm not a TV person.

Some of the comments on here are awful, Manson in a E-bike, heaven forbid “clutches pearls”. She’s admitted she was never going to keep up with Ella on the hills, she wanted to interview her going up, so this is the way she could do it (hats off to Ella going up that and still being able to talk), “oh Manon is on a E-bike, that’s why she doesn’t look like a cyclist anymore” lord stop the world someone isn’t a size 0🙄 she has always been and still is in great shape, I love cycling, but sweet baby cheeses on a bike some cyclists really are the most judgmental asshats.

In looking closely at the bikes, the pro's bike, which I assume is sponsored, did not have an integrated cockpit. Granted, I don't watch that much of the pro-cycling coverage for men or women, but GCN Tech has been doing a lot of coverage of the bikes in the men's peloton and how they all have top spec bikes. Do the women's teams usually have lesser tech?
@gcn
@gcn Жыл бұрын
It often depends on the team's budget. The top-level World Tour teams with the biggest budget will usually have the most high-end equipment, whereas lower-budgeted teams and ones in the lower UCI rankings will often opt for cheaper components, which don't necessarily have much of a negative effect. The performance difference between Ultegra and Dura Ace for example wouldn't be too noticeable but the price difference would be!
@coreyhipps7483
@coreyhipps7483 Жыл бұрын
@@gcn I understand the very marginal gain that one might see from Dura Ace Di2 over Ultegra Di2. But, in GCN Tech's video titled "Tour De France Bikes Ranked Cheapest to Most Expensive!" even the cheapest bikes being used by the teams with the lowest budgets on the Tour de France had integrated cockpits. So, is this that women's teams are significantly well less funded? Are the sponsorship deals with Shimano, SRAM, and the various component, frame, and wheel makers that much lower? I've always assumed, to a degree, that the bikes in the Tour de France are not just there because the teams pay for them but because the whole race is treated as a giant marketing campaign for the various manufacturers to sell "what the pros use" to significantly smaller teams and to the everyday (all be it well heeled) people who are going to go out and buy an expensive bike. If my assumption there is not wrong, then... I also assume that if the Tour de France is the most prestigious men's cycling race in the world then the Tour de France Femmes would be billed as the most prestigious women's cycling race in the world. And if that is true, it certainly shows a disparity in terms of how much the equipment manufacturers (who are often sponsors) care about seeing their tech in the men's race vs the women's. But perhaps I have a big gap in my understanding of how these teams are funded and what equipment they use.
