Jk Rowling claims Hermione was never described as white in the books, Ok? Then why did she approve the countless different book covers with art work that depicts Hermione as white? Why did she choose a white actress to portray her in tge movies? JK is such a liar

It's not that she's claiming Hermione _isn't_ white and is a different race. She's just saying that the books don't specify her race because it was never important for her character, so it doesn't really matter and having her be whatever race you want-whether it be for preference, convenience, etc.-doesn't contradict the story.

@derrickcrowe3888 Hermione was white in every book cover she was shown on. And a white girl was cast to play her for the movies.This mean JKR had to describe the characters to all involved and approve the book art so its very clear that Hermione was always white.

@@ajax201000 There's a difference between the character and the portrayal. Artists and actors can't portray Hermione with no skin, so she needs to have skin of some color whether it's part of her character or not. That the drawing and actor were white doesn't mean the character is white. It's the same as noting that the drawing and Emma Watson both have relatively small ears. Does this mean Hermione the character has small ears and actors with larger ears shouldn't play her? No, that's silly. Ear size is (I assume) never stated in the books because it isn't part of her character, so there was never any need to define that detail.

@derrickcrowe3888 You can try and dress it up all you want but Hermione was always intended to be a white girl and she should be portrayed as such. Jk did not imagine that HG was black or she would have told the book cover artists to draw her that way. Most people want characters to look how they were originally depicted or intended. You would be the first to complain in Kingsley was white or Cho Chan was not of Asian decent or if the Patel twins were male and not of indian heritage. Skin colour and ear size are not the same. One is extremely noticeable and one is not. Unless it comes to extremes. If you mean freakishly big ears, then "No!", an actress with extremely big ears shouldnt play Hermione. Would you be happy if the Weasleys were blondes? Im guessing, no. But hair is just a colour, right? Why does it matter?

@@ajax201000 You keep appealing to Rowling's supposed intent as unchangeable canon, but Rowling disagrees with you. She never felt Hermione's race was worth mentioning because it evidently wasn't important for her character, and her official stance is that it's totally fine and not contradictory to cast a black actress. So are the author's intents important? If so, then black Hermione is fine. Or are they irrelevant? If so, then black Hermione is fine. Or is your position that Rowling is lying about her own intentions, and you know what she was _really_ thinking when she was writing the books?

Its not even just that he's black but that he's too physically attractive for the role. The books describe Snape as ugly and having abnormal facial features. Paapa Essiedu looks perfectly normal and it isn't believable he would be ostracized for his appearance unless they go the cliched racism route which no one wants to see in Harry Potter. Couldn't they at least get an ugly black actor for Snape if there gonna race swap? Are they gonna put prosthetics on him like Jamie Foxx in Amazing Spider-Man 2 because that wasn't goofy as hell! Of all the characters to not cast accurate to the books Snape is one of the dumbest choices to go with because his physical appearance is apart of his story and plays a huge part in it.

It would not shock me at all if they moved up the setting by a decade or two. Maybe the early 00s where people had mobile phones and the internet was becoming popular, maybe the early 2010's so people would have smart phones and internet access was the norm. Something the young adult and/or teenager demographic can relate to. If they were REALLY stupid they would set it in the current year, so kids can grow up with it.

It's to piss you off but also from JKR's point of view it's totally sincere. Other then on the women's rights stuff (more power to her) she's pretty right on for most things. But no-one can say anything about this even if they don't like it. Like the black Death in the Sandman TV series.

The single character in Sandman that was actually based on a real person -- Cinnamon Hadley. Not that Gaiman even did the design. Mike Dringenberg did.
