The advice that to give out about pursuing a career in the craft is true . My father is an actor , and he told me that being in the film industry gives you a harsh reality that drama schools , auditions for huge role doesn’t set expectations for you that you’d hope for even if you’ve trained , rejections hit you hard . And the best thing to do , if you truly enjoy acting , is to keep acting for the fun it , but it has to as a side job or else you would end up with no other option for your future. Love watching your videos and I hope that the people who’ve watched it understands that ❤😊

It sucks because I think the reason a ton of actors get turned down is because most people don't really care about the art for acting and only see the big pay cheque. Which is why for actors who really care about the art and want to pursue a career find it difficult. They have to compete with millions of other people who only care about the money and fame.
@anthonyjamesvasquez8 ай бұрын
What you say couldn't be truer. Most people really don't care for the art of acting, including the people in charge of a production, whether it's a film, series, or play. If they did, the roles would go to the best actors. Acting classes can help you become a great actor, but they can never help you become a successful one. As they say, it's not what you know, but WHO you know. The people in charge of a production will always select a lame actor they already know over a great actor they don't know.

It's the same with every high paying jobs including corporate jobs while you may get a job, the top jobs, yeah someone has to recommend you, like you. Networking is more important than anything for a reason. The nepos are not getting jobs because they're talented, it's because they know someone who knows someone. It explains why there are many PR relationships out there. When you look at most top actors right now, they either started many years ago doing small budget movies, built a good network and took off from there or they knew someone who helped them. Because the process you undergo, those types of challenges you have to encounter, and all the fears that you face and conquer are ultimately responsible for making you story, for writing your own story, and trust me without these obstacles you don’t gotta be an authentic individual.” Keep going, mates. @ailtorres25 күн бұрын
I recommend having a specialized secondary skill that is marketable because you will have to have a secondary source of income as you pursue acting. This skill can be an artistic talent (playing an instrument) or technical (graphic design or photography or wood-working or welding as examples) but you will have to have a side-gig that pays decently and can be done on evenings and weekends. So along with acting, master a specialized skill that you can at least give lessons on, and then move to a big city to pursue acting. Even if you book a lot of gigs, you will face long periods of unemployment and will need supplemental income. Most people in the industry have multiple jobs, especially with the outsourcing of work to other states.
@TheActorsAcademy25 күн бұрын
Exactly. This business is extremely difficult and I can't emphasize not putting all your eggs into one basket, because this basket is very unstable. I always tell my actors, you don't have to give up school to pursue acting (which many people believe) get your degree at the same time, because even if you don't make something from booking you can sustain yourself from your other job. I know a guy who is an actor while studying in medical school. It's very possible and very doable. In terms of moving to a big city, you luckily are no longer forced to do this, since 99% of auditions are now self-tapes, which means you can audition from anywhere.
@ailtorres25 күн бұрын
@ we agree about not putting all of your eggs in one basket. Wise advise. If I may not so much as disagree but rather present a different opinion with the idea of not being in larger city like LA/London/NY/Atlanta. While you can audition “anywhere” the main work and agencies are in big cities. Not to mention the incredible breadth of resources a big city has to offer (acting classes, networking with peers, experimental theatre, film fests, lectures by artists, etc) compared to a smaller/medium sized city where traditionally the main hub of artists is in a university/academic setting.
@TheActorsAcademy25 күн бұрын
@ don’t worry, these are fair points and I always think open dialogue is good. This would be my push back. Though some big work may be in these cities, you do not have to be there in order to audition. If you book, then you’d have to stay out there and/or if they want an in person call back, then you’d need to be willing to make those travel plans. I have a friend who got reps in LA, but he lives out in Michigan. Other aspects of moving to a big city that is hard, are the finances. It’s not cheap to live in LA and the lifestyle you have being in a large city may not be as comfortable as you being somewhere smaller. It all really depends on what the individual wants, which is why I always say KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. That includes lifestyle during your journey, because actors need to be aware that they may never become the next Angelina Jolie like they want, or the next Brad Pitt, since those are very special cases. So it’s really dependent on the individual. Big cities do have more resources, but every individual needs to weigh the pros and cons, particularly with the finance aspect. For example if I move to LA paying $4,000 a month just in rent for a location that is not the safest or ideal, in order to get particular training. Will that help to succeed to the next level? Possibly yes, possibly no. Then I’d put it into a percentage for myself. What percentage would this help me be closer to success. 20%, 10%, 2%, 0.002%. Depending on the percentage benefit, it would show how valuable or not a situation might be. I would do this with everything you listed, look at my finances and decide. I will say with most actors and their finances (based on statistical averages) it wouldn’t make a huge impact on achieve your success or not. You are right that for some people it will, but for the majority it will not, which is why you must pursue it in the way that suits the individual best and for most people, being that 20 something year old leaving home to pursue acting will be greatly disappointed and they’re more in it for the short game rather than the long game. This is why 2/3 of actors wash out in just 1 year…

Great explanation ! For me, it wasn't my primary intention to perform, I just happened to be involved in some theatre productions together with my husband ( mostly pantomime). Now , I'm wandering: Should I look for some acting/ pantomime course or just try to practice on my own ? I have occasional appearance in street theatre / pantomime performances with my husband or local group . I feel I have " natural predispositions" in terms of expressing emotions, making a character , but I don't know - should I do anything with it ?
@TheActorsAcademyАй бұрын
Think of it this way: imagine you play poker at home or with friends, and you do pretty well. You might think, “I have a natural talent for this” - and you probably do. But does that mean you should head to Vegas, take out a second mortgage, and go all in? Probably not. The same logic applies to acting, just replace “poker” with “acting.” That’s the reality of this business. In fact, poker might even be easier to succeed at compared to making it as an actor. The point is, you wouldn’t advise someone to go all in on poker, and similarly, you shouldn’t dive all in on acting, especially since success can be so unpredictable. So what does this mean? Does it mean you should never play poker or give up acting? Not at all. It’s perfectly fine to go to Vegas and play some cards or slot machines, just don’t bet your life savings on it. Instead, maintain balance and treat it like a hobby. If you strike it big, that’s fantastic! But if you don’t and end up like most people who eventually quit, that’s okay too, because you didn’t risk everything. I hope this helps. In short, pursuing acting, taking classes, and honing your skills is all good, but treat it with the same perspective as poker or even playing the lottery.

Becoming an actor is like becoming a football/soccer player.The ones you see actually making it are the minority(even if there seems to be a lot of people), most never make it or will only have it as something they do "out of love" because it won't be (enough to be)paying their bills.

Have a back-up plan, I plan on doing my degrees. Getting good education. Maybe even working for a little bit until I get money. Then I attend auditions. If, and its a big if, IF I don't make it, I can easily go towards my job. I can easily get a job, I have experience along with degrees and a good education.

Acting is a great skill. KZbin, Sales, Public Speaking, writing, research, presentation, fashion, etc. KZbin Characters do well. Actors are in Demand.

I went to drama school… everyone who had talent and put in the work paying their dues is currently working in the industry.. are they movie stars no? But they are working consistently. A lot of people get into acting for vanity, they fall off quick. The ones who love the craft and have the talent will eventually break through…

people with training, who are dedicated and persistent will have a career ,it may or may not be big, if they are working steadily, they've won

i want to persue acting. i always admired my favorite actors and see them flourish as well their journey where they are now. my favorite actor oscar isaac is incredible and he inspires me. im not in Juilliard. i dont live in new york or la. i got to my state university and where there isnt much of acting opportunities, ik its a harsh reality and the competition is very high. ik its a big risk and its something im really thinking about. i love films, movies. but im also doing pre-law and im having a hard time for myself right now on whag i want to do with my life as a freshman in my uni

He is right. Luck is probably number 1. Luck meaning lucky in looks. Without a good look talent is almost useless. Acting is not like being a musician or a visual artist. Your look determines demand. I know one actor who actually altered his face to get lead roles. I have a friend whose kid is getting lots of work because he has a good look and with little experience.

Ok, so you raise a good point. It can be luck based. SOMETIMES. See take actors like Jim Carrey, Millie Bobby Brown, Jenna Ortega, they got their roles because they were simply the best at the role. If you can cry on demand and actuality look emotional your more likely to get the role over someone whos just waving their arms around and screaming. I beleive its more skill based than luck.

Hallo, could you make a Video about how much working is healthy and that also Star Actors have to make a break sometimes? I think for young actors like me, it is really necessary to say that because I nearly got a Burnout out because I only worked Hard but not smart. I think in our society most of the people only say "work, work, work" but nobody says, that only working without a break sometimes can be really dangerous and is not helping you very much, to get closer to your goal(If you really work one year all the time and after that, you get a Burnout and you can't work for a fee years, I don't think you are going to do it in this industry)

The key word is balance. You need to have balance in your work and in your life. In my video about ‘rejection’ (2 videos ago) I explained that you can’t make acting your #1. There are SO MANY more important things in life than ones acting (moms, dads, grandparents, siblings, lovers, etc.) we can do so many more things in our lives other than just ‘acting.’ So the answer is balance and setting your priorities straight. Knowing what you put on your scale as level of importance. This doesn’t mean to not work or practice, but to rather have your priorities straight and balance set in your life.

Acting is about luck. The people we see on TV and in movies are NOT the most talented but the most LUCKY. They knew someone in the business, they have relatives in high places, they slept with someone. If you pull back the curtain on Hollywood, you will see a lot of darkness and people selling their souls, and dignity, to make it.

I feel like this video is discouraging to those who seek to become professional actors because most A list actors didn’t look at statistics. They just believed it was obtainable, regardless of probabilities. You have to think outside the box and believe the unbelievable to make it in this business. We wouldn’t know a Denzel or Brad Pitt if in back of their minds they thought about the Harsh realities of pursing actors smh nothing positive came from this video. Believe in yourself again bro

This is the kind of advice that people that think they are super good looking and deserve to be an actor and an instant star When you're relying on your looks and your talent is mediocre you'll need a lot of luck soon people they find out that acting is More than just looking good because there's a lot of good looking people. That's the real disappointment that I'm seeing here. Sorry, it takes more than a pretty face to be talented.. You have to actually love it.Not love just your hopeful results from it
