This game is very much thriving, sadly most of the notoriety from back in the day when the game was at its peak is long gone, and now most people don't really remember this game anymore, the only time you really get anyone playing now is; since the mmo scene is really dry at the moment, people are kinda scavenging about to find something, so they remember this game and come back too it after some years, or you already have dedicated players that have been around the game for so long that they just can't give it up. The reason you you felt like you started the game over and over again is due to the fact that, pretty early on the game has a pay-wall, and if you don't decide to pay, you end up having to stick around wizard city spots, triton avenue, etc. so it all starts to give you a bit a deja'vu in a sense.

Yep. You are probably in a low realm. Changing to a different realm. Click the book, then the gear on right side close to the bottom. Then up top the thing that looks like Canon balls. Is in alphabetical order, so start in the A's until you find one not full.

There are a few errors you made: Regarding the Ice school, while it’s not popular, it can be a hassle to level up. Their AoE spells do so little damage that grinding can be really tedious. Ice wizards have high HP and resistances, but the trade-off is their low damage output, which makes solo leveling a pain. I have an Ice wizard at level 145, and I stopped playing because soloing with Ice was just too frustrating. The issue is that you don’t get a decent AoE spell until around level 45-47, so you're stuck using treasure cards or spell item cards from gear or pets to make up for the lack of damage. As for the commons, when you’re in an empty realm, it’s because the server divides realms into different areas when they get full. These areas are numbered from 01 to 12. So even if you’re in a crowded realm, you might get pushed into an empty area of that realm. When you say it's dead, it's probably because most players are from the US, and if you're playing during the night in the US, it might seem empty since fewer people are online during that time, especially if you’re in a different time zone like the EU. Yes, there’s a paywall. For $10 a month, you unlock all zones and worlds, but you need to finish the main story quests to visit other worlds. The only zone that’s free without a membership is Triton Avenue; everything else is locked behind the paywall. If you're planning to solo, I wouldn’t recommend playing as Ice. Death is much better for solo play since they can heal themselves while attacking. If you want to support, Life is a good choice, and Balance is great for buffs. For dealing damage, Storm and Fire are the best options. Storm fizzes a lot at lower levels, but at higher levels, they hit really hard. However, their low HP means they die quickly unless they have a Life wizard with them to heal. If you're going to talk about "pay to win," in the next video, it really depends on the gear grind. You can get crafted gear, which is good, or boss drop gear at specific levels like 30, 45, 60, 90, and 100. Dungeons are recommended for these levels, but crafting is something everyone does first because it’s essential for getting free gear. While crafted gear isn’t as good as boss drop gear from dungeons, it’s a solid option. You can also choose to go for paid gear like pack or crown gear, but most people rely on boss drop gear, starting with the Zeus dungeon at level 30. That gear lasts until around level 55 when you either craft new gear or run dungeons, or you can wait until level 60 for Waterworks gear, which is the best gear at that level. At level 90, you can run the Hades dungeon, although most people skip it because at level 100, Darkmoor gear, also known as Malistaire gear, becomes available. This is the best gear and lasts until around level 145, when you can either craft Dragoon gear or wait until level 160-170 for better gear from Novus or Wallaru, whether by crafting or farming from bosses. Also Crown gear can also drop from gauntlets, which can be found in the housing tours in the commons. Everyone does these to get free crown gear without having to open packs, so gauntlets are a must if you want free crown gear or pets or jewels or snacks or reagents or gold and xp. They also drop mounts, and some hidden bosses can drop permanent or 7-day mounts. Key bosses in each world can do the same.

I love this game and did basically the same thing a couple months ago. I didn't know it was the anniversary and got the premium for free for a week, loved the game since as a kid I was strictly FTP. I was suprised to see so many people still on in the servers I was in and was excited to see all the new content. After the week was over though I was locked out of everything and the cost for everything is so predatory that I couldn't see being able to spend that kind of money on the game especially without like a one time purchase to get the older content or something permanently kinda like destiny 2. I got stuck by the same paywalls that stopped me as a kid. I haven't played since
