Another idea would be that the amount on the contract should be counted after taxes. So the amount on the contract would be the same whatever the State the team is located. The taxes would be paid by the team and not count on the cap.

Could be interesting but I doubt most of the owners would want to pay more taxes just to get players, I think they would rather have the option with the Luxary tax

Almost 50% in Montreal?! No wonder they can't get anybody decent and haven't won a Cup in over 30 years. What's wrong with this picture?

One solution is for players to defer a portion of their contract. We've seen this with Ohtani in MLB and just recently with Vatrano with the Ducks.

31.6 percent in Nashville ? There is no income tax in tn? It’s just federal

It's a HUGE problem that ONLY the team owners can fix, but , ( even Bettman has no say in this matter ) owners are businessmen , businessmen are greedy , how many bussiness do you know that would concede their loopholes to bigger profits ? The players association have no say in the matter. There is a solution , the league would have to compensate the players on the tax rates of their team. Example : Florida teams would anti up X amount and Canadian Teams would anti up Y amount all amounts are based on the Salary caps throughout the league, sounds complicated but the formula is rather simple. A player would only need to submit their NHL income tax yearly to the league accountants. Of course the player would have to declare the compensation but only the following fiscal year. So yes there HAS to be a solution, but will the owners agree? Probably NOT.

True! I also think the NHL has a preference for these very teams in the south to win to excite a weak or new fan base.

I think they are happy people are interested in all of their markets, I don’t think they are actively pushing for certain teams to win though

@ How do you explain Vegas then?
@VOLUMEnightclub10 сағат бұрын
Hey Jimmy I like your videos but you missed with this one. 1. NHL players are taxed on where they play, so when Vegas goes to NY to play they are taxed in NY dollars…yes home ice is still some tax benefit but not as much as people think. 2. Many of the top teams in the League are in high income areas, Leaf’s/ Caps/ Oilers/ Bruins/ Devils are all high taxed and have high profile players. 3. Florida’s has had tax benefits forever, but they were terrible basically forever until recently. And every millionaires accountant would have know that then also. 4. Luxury tax will kill small markets. MLB also instills luxury tax (dodgers/ Yankees highest taxed states always good…Marlins/ Rays florida’s lowest tax are always bad) what it will bring in is super billionaire owners that are willing to bleed the city with tax write offs, build super teams and leave small markets dead. It sounds silly, but the owner with 1 billion dollars won’t be able to compete with the owner who has 20 billion dollars. Usually team owners live locally so a NY/ LA billionaire is going to be a much richer billionaire than Minnesota/Columbus/ Carolina owners and they’ll just farm the young talent from those teams like the MLB. . In my opinion the teams that are winning cups because they trade well and stay focused, have good GM’s draft well/ trade well…never over welcome players.

Places like Nevada have no income tax and I believe theres no state sales tax on alot of things plus the warm weather and nightlife why would you want to go play in Winnipeg
@jimmyhockey7 сағат бұрын
That’s the point here, there are factors that keep players away from teams but how much money they get taken away is something the league can work on
@mechanicalelizabeth12 сағат бұрын
Having not watched the full video. Could be as easy as adjusting the spending caps of the teams across the board to make a level playing group in terms of money. Or. Just remove the spending cap completely so a market that really wants a player can just outright pay them when they can afford too.
@Baronvanhausen8811 сағат бұрын
Lol that’s the whole point of the cap to not have the richest people just buy Stanley cups every year
@jimmyhockey11 сағат бұрын
Removing the cap is a dangerous game. Adjusting the total cap space to accommodate for taxes is a much easier and fair plan

@@tsak912 no it sucks look at what’s happening in baseball. Same thing will happen in hockey, the rangers and the leafs will become the new Yankees and dodgers

This is before I’ve watched the entire video so I’m not sure if it’s like this in the NHL or if you mention it but I know nba players who play for the raptors get double taxed by Canada and the us
@jimmyhockey11 сағат бұрын
If that’s true that’s nuts! I know most Canadian teams had the highest income tax rates so it doesn’t shock me that the raptors are the same way
