Whoever did this is not human.” - Flor Gonzalez I am so sorry for all the hate Asians have been receiving, especially in a time like this, although this discrimination isn't new towards all of us people of colour. It's a classic tactic of abuse to convince your victim that they're not a victim and that they should be grateful because they don't have it as bad as those other people over there. Because at the end of the day racism is just societal wide abuse that we all participate in and support on some level or another. You shouldn't have to wait for something as awful as this to happen to feel able to speak about very real feelings and experiences and how they impact you.

As an Asian woman, I relate to the invisibility that you feel. We never really see asians in the media, especially western countries. When we do, most times they’re so stereotypically Asian. I’m so heartbroken to see hate towards Asian people, getting hurt for no reason. And the pandemic definitely enhanced that violence. So happy that you’re doing this fundraiser!! All love ✨

that clip talking about the Atlanta shooting hit so hard cause I swear I had the exact same reaction. it took me a week to really process everything that's happened and I had my first full-on cry about it last night after my classes. asian americans have been so conditioned to gaslight ourselves when we get discriminated against/hate crimed because no one else talks about the microaggressions we get. it's very bittersweet to think about cause on one hand I'm glad we as a society are finally having a proper discussion about this, but at the same time I'm pissed that it's JUST now happening.

It’s a really scary time for all of us in the AAPI community - I’m more paranoid and anxious than I’ve ever been. There’s this constant thought in the back of my head nowadays: “who’s next? is it me? one of relatives? someone I’m friends with?”, and it honestly keeps me up at night. It’s crazy to see how this model minority myth kind of put the worry to the back of our own minds.

I can definitely relate to feeling all the emotions since the ATL shootings. It was especially upsetting, since the AAPI community has been begging for attention and help since March 2020. I think a lot of Asian Americans feel invisible and/or their experiences with racism are minor compared to other POC groups. But all forms of racism are racial abuse and it's important that we're a part of the conversation too. We can say that Black and Indigenous people bear the brunt of white supremacy/racism AND have our voices heard as well.

Okay so I haven't watched everything yet but I got disappointed by someone today and am actually sad and then I got this notification so I hope you will cheer my sad ass up over here in Germany it's 3:46pm. Kaiti is my cheerleader now; will update after watching this update: First of all, the best of quarantine literally was Kaiti's decision to make a KZbin channel because you are by far my favourite KZbinr and I've been on here since 2011. 1. you freaking cheered me up when I read "I am going to cheer myself" I was like yep 2. I am not kidding but I was on my way to Chipotle too. I literally continued to watch this video in the bus and normally I read in the bus. At some point I started laughing and these guys were looking at me because wtf. Anyway, I decided to get Qdoba because it was closer to home and there is literally only two Chipotle here in my town (as far as I know) and they don't deliver. I also only eat it on special occasions or on sad days because get that guacamole on 3. 🥺🥺🥺 to all the Asian hate. I stand with you guys and try to educate myself the best. Especially the ones that are not the target group should learn more and support. 4. As a college student who doesn't live home I was so hyped to watch your chicken marinating. Might try it in a zip lock back as well 5. Your roomies, when her eye came up close and personal 6. 12:29 got me 7. You really have a tool to get into your shoes. WAAAUW 8. Just loving the vibes, the edit, the content 9. We love boring blogs because they are so hilarious because of you (personality-content everything top 10. Alright that's enough I am on my way back to eat Mexican, was a good vlog 11. soy sauce, two tablespoons 😂 12. that 3$ coat, y'all why do others always get some dope things for so cheap, what am I doing wrong? 13. whoever reads this long answer, have a blessed day💫

Thanks for being so honest Kaiti, it is indeed an odd feeling to see Asians in the headlines in this country. I’m honestly quite scared because I’ll be moving to NYC (from a small town in upstate New York) for graduate school in the fall, and we are seeing hate crimes against Asians happening there left and right. Through the COVID lockdown I recognized my privilege like I never had before, the fact I can stay home without financial worries and safely return to school for in person classes made me so much more privileged than most people. But then comes the hate crimes against our communities, which is making it incredibly difficult for me to reconcile between my privilege and disenfranchisement. Thank you for sharing your struggles with it, it makes me feel less alone to hear that someone else say that.

As a white girl who doesnt care about skin colour or ethnicity (as in I never judged anyone based on it) I was flabbergasted when I was out with my Korean friend (whom I have to thank for my top notch skincare routine and skincare knowledge btw) for lunch and random white teenage boys started saying racist sh&#t. She then proceeded to tell me that even her professors at our uni had implicit stereotypes about her being "the smart, hardworking asian" in the class and she told me about the nasty looks and comments she has to endure DAILY on the streets in our small eastern european city. I had not the slightest this was happening to my friend, she had never brought it up before, sad thing is, at this point she was "just used to it". Which is really effin upsetting and should not fly with any civilised community in the 21st century.

The anti-Asian and anti-minority hate is just appalling. You can’t just say he was “having a bad day” people don’t deserve to lose their lives over this. I come from a high place of privilege too so when BLM and black hate crimes were going on it made me feel like i wasn’t “a part of it” even though I am Black. You kind of realize that your experience is very different than others. We can’t feel bad about that though we just have to use that privilege and educate ourselves, talk about it to others, and do what we can to support. Even if we feel helpless and disconnected. Thank you for this video ❤️

In a daily basis we also face racial discrimination. I myself as an Asian Nurse has some sorts of different experiences of that. BUT what I noticed that even though we are experiencing discrimination, we really don’t make it as a big deal. We focus on one thing, doing good in our job, and be able to support financially our family back home. Yes I agree it feels like we are invisible. BUT this sort of violence we are facing now is something that we cannot just ignore.

This video was amazing! I love how you shared your raw/initial thoughts about the Atlanta shooting, and I can definitely relate to feeling invisible, so it is very comforting knowing I'm not the only one, much love

What I find frustrating is that you hear people saying that the United States does not have any problems with racism, but then those same people will defend a white man for shooting other POC. And THEN they pat themselves on the back because their argument did not mention race so that means they're not racist. Thank you for continuing to educate and tell us your thoughts. I know you're not the end-all be-all, but I am happy to see you express how you truly feel to this community.

Don’t tell yourself there are bigger problems. Everyone’s problems are valid. I always see people use the “bigger problems” argument to stop progress from being made, especially for human rights. It’s even worse when these mindsets bleed into people putting these values on themself. Just remember how valid your problems are.
