Winner of the 2014 National Band Association Young Band Composition Contest, "The Haunted Carousel" was conceived as a piece for band utilizing the sound of a theremin, an electronic instrument often used in old science fiction and horror movies. The part is optional and all critical material is doubled with other instruments of the band. The theremin part is designed to be performed live on an amplified iPad with the GarageBand application. I’ve definitely played worse - as a (junior in high school, but still) sax player, I had to not only learn the clarinet in a month, but learn every note from low E to altissimo G (!) in the process for pit orchestra, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone - I hope this went well, though!

She told me that they were going to have a particular song that I would enjoy but didn't tell me anything besides I would know it when they play it. I imagine that the poor little girl fell off the carousel long ago (nobody knows why), and she is the one that haunts it to this day. Hope you enjoy the piece!

and my theory is this Erika. The carousel was built on the Eel marsh following the events of the first movie in the early 1920's. What happened was that this little girl was on the carousel when it sank into the swamp, along with the others.

I like to imagine that this is part of a story that involves some other songs. The story starts with Northern Lights by Alan lee Silva, which then leads to The Great Locomotive Chase By Robert W. Smith, but then the train is revealed to be a Ghost Train, which is a reference to Ghost Train By Eric Whitacre. After the train ride, you get off and enter a Ghost Town which is inhabited by Ghosts and And a Really Old Man. And what does this town have? A Carousel of course, did I mention it’s Haunted? And that of course is a Reference to This song⭐️

Theremin was used in a lot of sci-fi and horror back in the 50s and 60s, and it's used in Luigi's Mansion and its sequels as well. Minor key helps too.
