Two things: -Mike Flanagan recently signed to reboot The Exorcist franchise. - You should react to The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick staring Jack Nicholson and the sequel Doctor Sleep directed by Mike Flanagan and staring Ewan McGregor, both based on books by Stephen King.
@melissayoung4656 ай бұрын
Doctor Sleep is so good. Flanagan managed to make it both a sequel to the book and movie since there were a lot of differences between the original Shining movie and book. He's an absolute genius.

That shushing scene, I definitely was like Blake in that moment until Flora shushed, so literally went to a "WHAT?!? You can shush at something supernatural and it'll calm down?!?" So glad you already recognized Luke btw, hearing him using his real accent (he's actually British) is amazing.

I don't know how much you guys know about Mike Flanagan and his projects so I'm just going to throw some stuff out there and see if it hits. Mike Flanagan Ari uses a lot of the talent that He has in his projects which is awesome . Let's go back to 2016 there's a movie called "Hush" starring Mike's wife Kate Siegal (She's in almost all his projects - She was Theo in HoHH) as a deaf author. There are only three people in the entire movie. The book that she wrote that became a big hit was called Midnight Mass . In the beginning of that movie her character calls a neighbor and The Neighbor comes walking across the yard with a copy of a book in her hand . The actress walking across the yard is the same actress that plays Steves wife in The Haunting of Hill House. She lays the book down on the table and the book is titled Midnight Mass. Cut to the movie Gerald's Game starring Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood . On the nightstand next to the bed is the book Midnight Mass. Cut to the show Midnight Mass(great show) full circle. Now. The Haunting of Bly Manor is not exactly one story from one book each episode is one story from one book written by Henry James. Also you should watch Fall of the House of Usher which also Stars Katey Seigal, Carla Gugino Bruce Greenwood,etc... Also each episode is named after 1 of Edgar Allen Poe's stories. That's also a great show! Btw... Blake... Your Xanax order is ready to be picked up. Make sure you take 1/2 hour before shooting. 😂

My take on the first two HAUNTING series: Hill House was scarier... Bly Manor -- though not as well balanced -- is the more interesting series. When I heard that Flanagan was going to use The Turn of the Screw for his jumping off point for season two, I was so excited. James' novella is the only time I had that classic tv/movie moment of reading a book and having the phone ring, startling me so that I throw the book up in the air. It's interesting that Flanagan chose Hill House and Turn of the Screw as his first two stories. Both have excellent film versions made only two years apart: THE INNOCENTS (1961, based on Turn of the Screw) and THE HAUNTING (1963, based on Hill House).

This was definitely the episode that ramped things up way more than the first one. Glad to see you're enjoying it 😊 Oh! I dont want to forget to shout out the kid playing Miles. Hes brilliant. I dont know how he pulls off the nuances he does, it'd be difficult for much older actors to pull off. As you guys pointed out, hes practically a different person every other scene. And its believable. Cant stop raving about that kid. Should probably look his name back up though so i can stop calling him the kid 😂

Here’s the only other thing I have to say about this show. It is very different than Hill House in EVERY way. This author wrote very differently, and it is based on MANY of his works. Nothing is going to make sense- until they want it to make sense on the screen. I have watched this series quite a few times with different friends, and with a couple reactors. I have never seen one understand what the kids are talking about, where the objects are coming from, and what is truly happening until some key moments occur. This series, again, is not like Hill House. Yes, every line is important and extremely impressive but not as impactful on the overall story. Enjoy the last few episodes.
