I love Owen's monologue. I think i teared up a bit. I just love all the monologues in this show (and Hill House's)

I don’t know if it’s gonna be a thing w The Haunting series, assuming there’d be more after Bly Manor, but the 5th episode is always the one that twists the knife in people’s guts, so I’m excited for that reaction. But little Flora though. “Just very, very sad.” You just want to reach into your screen and hug her.

I loved the approach they went for Bly Manor of using horror elements to show grief and traumas and the 'haunting" of memories and stuff. It was beautifully done and the stories and performances are just perfectly splendid. It is different from Hill House but yet pretty similar on the way they portray relations and traumas and family bonds. Loving the reactions!

Maybe it was partly the design of Edmund's "ghost" but he never scared me (even with the music cues), because I figured he was a manifestation of guilt or grief from Dani's point of view and not an actual spirit/entity. That bit with the ghost lady in the background sent strong shivers down my spine though... And I think this might've been the first scene of someone stepping out of a car door on the street side and getting hit that I've seen in a show or movie. That's like such a huge fear of mine, that I've climbed over to the other side of the car to exit instead.

Opposite for me, I don't really get scared by all those ghosts that they show but this dude creeps me out (I think it's the glasses)

I don't think he was meant to be scary, but i think they meant to make it ambiguous, like, what's a ghost and what's not. Edmund is clearly not real, but Dani definitely SEES him, so then because of that we're meant to question which of the other "ghosts" we see are real and aren't (like with Miles and Peter: we're meant to wonder is Peter a real ghost possessing Miles, or is Miles imitating Peter just a manifestation of his attachment to Peter as a father figure?).

I'm pretty sure Bly Manor is named after the town not the family. They refer to the entire surrounding region as Bly in the first episode.

A manor is basically the home someone seat of power in a city or region. It would be like a governors mansion in the US, in the UK it’s more so the house of an Aristocrat like a Lord.

There are def ghosts and some scares but the creator has said over and over that this is a gothic love story. Not saying it’s not still horror or still good ( I love it a lot) but I think that is what accounts for what you’re seeing (not as scary).

Haven't seen beyond this episode but I've wondered who the narrator that we saw at the wedding in the first episode (played by mom from Hill House) is and I'm now pretty sure it's older Jamie. Accent and looks only match her and Flora but how would Flora know about what happened when Dani and Jamie were alone so pretty sure it's Jamie...
@TheReelReesePod4 жыл бұрын
yeah, but by that logic, how would Jamie know half of this stuff?

This season lacks the teeth of season 1, but the story it's telling is different. Creepy and eerie instead of the hard-hitting shocks of Hill House. But it's still an interesting mystery that unfolds slowly.

Jesus, how close was the truck if he just stepped out of the car and didn't even go on the street? Also, he got hit by a truck with ramming speed and his glasses only suffered a crack across one lens? Those would be gone.

I am LOVING this show. However, one minor detail that really, really annoyed me was that, Edmunds glasses didn't get smashed during the car crash. In what reality would a car with that amount of force as shown, hit someone and just casually have their glasses flung off their face, totally in one piece and not broken to smithereens? they would be thrown 60+ feet away and broken hahaha
@duggs44564 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily if nothing hit him in the face. If the van hits his body and he flies back and smashes the back of his head the glasses won't see too much damage and he'll still be very dead. Assuming the glasses fit you'd be surprised how well they stay on.
@baokachi97674 жыл бұрын
@@duggs4456 Hmm...When someone gets hit with such force then even their tightly tied on shoes will fling off and be thrown metres away, so surprising about the very thing glasses lol
@duggs44564 жыл бұрын
@@baokachi9767 you also see things like a person's legs are completely detached but their clothes keep their body together until they're taken off, weird shit happens when you get whacked hard. Shoes are also planted in the ground and your body gets flung away from them off the ground, particularly when it's your legs that get hit.

i mean... I've worn glasses for years and there have been so many times they've been flung real far. They've never cracked. been scratched a couple times though and the frame's have been bent. If his body gets hit at that force and the glasses leave his head a crack is reasonable. It's not unless they were run over that I'd expect them to actually break.
