Theo didn't gain the ability, it runs in the family. Olivia explained the "sensitive" traits she noticed in some of her children in the scene where she gifted her the gloves.

Theo seems to be perplexed by her ability though, as if she's unfamiliar with it. My take on this is that she's always had the ability, but it laid dormant until she was touched by the ghost.

When you finally realize what Theo is seeing when she's lying on that couch and looking at the ceiling, it's one of the creepiest and most disturbing things ever. My skin crawls just thinking about that scene. FYI, the line "Whose hand was I holding?" is straight out of the original novel.

The sound design and the creepy camera angles are also inspired quite a bit by the original adaptation in the 60,s film directed by Robert Wise.

I love how this is filmed and how tasteful even the dark scenes are. Some directors would definitely do a POV of the little girl on the couch with the foster dad, I like that this show doesn’t need to exploit scenes like that and they treat the audience as a smart audience, we don’t need to see it to understand what’s going on. Many of us even knew what was going on in the intro of this episode, like a gut feeling.

Another amazing detail in the show is that the knots in the wood, "Mr Smiley's" face one eye is big the other small; in the kids drawing, Mr Smiley in the window has one big eye one smaller one and the foster dad outside the house one big eye and a smaller one as well. All the other family members have the same size eyes, its just Mr Smiley and the abuser that have the Different sized eyes.

When you rewatch the scene where the child is telling Theo about Mr. Smiley, she has the doll (the father) and placed him under the house. Then she explains how he “always gets in”. Then the picture the child drawn, Mr. Smiley is looking from WITHIN the house. She’s saying it’s her dad without actually saying it.

I love how even though there's an up and a down button the parents don't believe that there's a basement until the older sister finds a way down into it besides through the dumb waiter. Like I'm pretty sure even back then they had the option of a single button for up or two buttons for up and down depending on the needs of the floor and maybe a single button for down whenever you're at the top floor.

“Some shows we get so much mystery that it’s hard to balance” That’s why it’s so great that this show was only 10 episodes. It didn’t need to leave anything unfinished. It knew how it would end from the beginning, and it tied up every story line perfectly. Unlike shows like LOST that relied heavily on being picked up for new seasons and then introducing conflict that either never got resolved, or took weeks to be answered.

I really love how perceptive you guys are. You've caught a lot that others miss. There are 5 siblings, and interesting fact since it's already been thoroughly established now its not a spoiler, the episodes are one for each sibling, their perspective of the story, past and present, in order of age. So Steve, Shirley, Theo, Luke and Nell. Another interesting fact is that the writer said each one of the siblings represent the five stages of grief. So it's Interesting once u learn and watch the first 5 episodes and get a feel of each of the siblings it's cool to think on that and figure out which stage each sibling represents.
@billross7245
@billross7245 3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, probably not in order of the stages.. denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. So far Steve is definitely Denial, Theo I believe is Anger, Shirley may be acceptance? That leaves two, but not sure how bargaining fits in unless escapism is part of it. And I think we know who depression is.

I have a weird thing that happens sometimes that I can't explain. I am not exactly a psychic, in fact I don't actually believe in psychics the way people describe them. But for instance I was talking to a friend on thr 10th of this month about my broken relationship with my mom and how sometimes we have to let go of resentments not so much for the other person's good but for our own good. All day I had a weird feeling. We talked about her mother and how she was sick and dealing with loss because the lack of love my displayed for me was filled by my grandmother who was the mother figure in my life and how losing her was so painful but how I learn to cope. Around 5:15pm she got a call that I knew was horrible. Turns out my friends mother died that day. Now did I know for sure her mother was going to die? No.. but I knew something was going to happen that day and the talk about my mother, her mother and my grandmother wasn't normal. Do I consider myself psychic, No.. Things like this happen every once in a while in different ways. Another example was a Hollywood tour bus. We were taking a tour of old Hollywood stars homes and who lived him them. We drove past a while mansion, who was said to have belonged to a famous director/actor. 🤔 for some reason, I imagined dancing in a huge dance hall with a black and white checker marvel floor. Tango, to be exact, I told the tour guide that there was a parlor with white and black marvel floor and they held parties their and there was an essentric pool with ancient statutes. The tour guild mouth hit the floor. He said that there was no way I could of known that and that that particular mansion was last used in the 80s and was abandoned and recently been having worked done. Only very few people knew those facts because parties were held there often in the 20's to 50's.

1:15 has it though? What helps sometimes is taking it in as a whole by episode and then fitting with episodes before and then anticipating with of course a balance of on the spot insightful observations. It’s a hard show to say what what coming from channel peeps without em/us saying too much. it’s getting a picture and then refitting that picture. Tough without being coy with clues and such on tone. Anyway, glad that at this point you’d have been advanced into series. Think of it maybe as a post-episode discussion with no quiz? Edit: I’m making no sense - ignore.

this series is amazing, I've watched it three times and now I'm watching your reactions and interpretations. my favorite is theo's girlfriend, she's so beautiful!! ;) hahahaha. now seriously, I like Theo, Luke and Nelly the most, they are my favorite characters. I don't like the other sister, she's mean. The mom is an interesting character too. The acting is good, they are all good showing the emotions of their characters. the whole production is great, it looks great, the sound is great too, the whole series is amazing.
