It's especially important while learning a new skill. A month ago, I was practicing some ice skating moves... Then I WOKE UP with people all around me, lying on the ice! They said I was 'out' for 2 minutes- I remember nothing. Fortunately I had NO aftereffects other than some muscle soreness. I've always worn a helmet and now always will.

If you stick gorpo to your helmet, in some cases you would be better not wearing it at all. Helmet still protects your skull but gopro change perfect egg shape of helmet and it may lead to neck injury or something. Keep in mind that Michael Schumacher had a helmet with camera on it when he had his skiing accident.

2 years ago my blades flew out from under me after airing on a quarter pipe. I flew straight back on to my head and I am so thankful I was wearing a helmet. I was seeing stars and felt a little wobbly even with the helmet so I cant even imagine how bad it would have been without one.

I've always worn a helmet when it felt necessary. Never thought I looked amazing but got more comfortable as time has gone on. Afterall, our heads are precious and my ego can get over it.. Currently sucking it up and in the process of buying a visor for derby as I'm short and know my nose can't take much more! Thank you for your videos Ricardo :)

In our club protection is not required, exept for a helmet... people can instantly get killed when falling on the back of their head... i didn't use it when I was a teen, but being a father holds some responibilities... so helmet... ✅ wristprotection ✅ the kids use their kneepads also, but untill I fall hard on my knees, I won't... probably will do after 👌🏽 keep up the good work!
@InlineDownhillVancouver7 жыл бұрын
Not many people know that a fall from a standing position in the right circumstances can kill you. I'm not a fan of wrist protection. Rather, it's better to train oneself to not land on the hands, which can result in hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder injuries. Tuck that arm in instead. I'm not saying, don't use them, but not falling on the hands in situations involving any significant force should be the first priority.

I'm planning on getting roller skates eventually and will definitely get protective gear. Even if I ever go without joint pads, I will always wear a helmet. I can live with a broken bone. Not so much with a broken brain.
@jackasshomey4 жыл бұрын
most helmets i find don't fit great, its always a battle of this ones too tight in some areas and not in other and the next helmet seems like it was made for someone with a square head, and then you get those helmets that just whip forwards in front of your eyes when you land regardless of how tight you make it, motorcycle helmets actually end up feeling the best fitting but those are usually bulky and not really great for doing tricks since you gotta counter balance extra weight on your head now, i suppose if they made a helmet that fit like a motocross helmet just without the face guard, visor and ear pieces helmets might be enjoyable for people, sure the hard styrofoam helmets prevent direct contact with the pavement but their very little impact dampening

Helmets do their job. Source: me and my multiple motorcycle crashes. It's funny how parents are so resistant to putting their kids into sports like hockey or American football because of all the fears of concussions, when it is these sports that have made the most inroads in protective equipment and rule changes in order to reduce the risks. Meanwhile, you have sports like soccer where heads, elbows, and knees are flying about towards other heads that have zero protection. Even though concussions are one of their more common injuries, there's little to no public spotlight on its existence. I started my little kids in beginner ice/figure skating classes recently. There were three groups on ice: an absolute beginner level (stumbly 3-4 year olds?), beginner drills (5-7 year olds?), and advanced techniques (8-10 year olds?). The only group wearing gear was the absolute beginner section. Initially, I felt bad because I could feel the unease of my 5 year old who was placed in the intermediate group (thanks to a few weeks of hockey learn to skate) because she stuck out like a sore thumb wearing most of her hockey gear (but more casually dressed with a hoodie and inline pants hiding her pads). Meanwhile, the other girls looked like they were getting ready for a winter fashion show. Maybe I'm wrong and they're all just wearing low profile gear and protective beanies? I've never been accused of being fashionable. My daughter was scared to death to fall when she started her hockey learn to skate even though she was fully geared up. Eventually though, she started to trust her gear and now falls on purpose just to have fun. And once achieving this mindset, it feels like she began to progress much faster. As such, I really feel like taking away her gear to fit in with the other girls in this new class would be a huge step backwards. What a damn shame.

This Ennui City Beanie is more dangerous than wearing nothing at all for the average person, since it offers no proven protection against brain injury during an impact. There is a reason that the beanie has no certification, because it's undergone no impact testing to achieve it. Much like the uncertified "multi-impact" helmets, which contain no EPS foam, the beanie gives the false impression of protection where there is none. I like what you do and how you encourage people to protect themselves, and often lead by example, but I disagree on this one.
@RicardoLino7 жыл бұрын
thank you for the comment, i surely respect your opinions, but i also believe that it better that its way better to use a beanie then using nothing. thanks for your honest feedback :-)
@InlineDownhillVancouver7 жыл бұрын
Yes, as long as the person who uses it is informed on how certified helmets and uncertified protection will protect or not protect and will adjust the risk level of their skating accordingly. However, my comment is for the uninformed, which I find the majority of people to be in the case of protecting the brain.

@Some guy typing stuff Because perforning actions that could result in injury while thinking that you're protected raises the chances of being seriously injured.
@InlineDownhillVancouver4 жыл бұрын
@Some guy typing stuff I discuss safety, including helmets, on a regular basis, as a representative of a sport that involves risk of injury. If it appears to provide protection - as the beanie does, as opposed to a issue or pillow case - someone will think that they are protected, as I run into it all of the time.

Hello from Syberia, Russia! In one of your videos you are used some XSJADO/DOOP skates with white Converse shoes. Is it comfortable and good supporting with this shoes? I am sort of a fan of Converse and like concept of DOOP, but not sure i will be able to skate it with 80mm wheels(just back to rollerblading on august 2016 after about 15 years of non-skating). Currently i learning how-to skate again with RB Solo's with stock anti-rocker setup(60mm on outside) and awaiting Aeon 72 for cruising and basic grinds.

Hi man, so..the truth is that XSJADOS work better with the xsjado shoes...and doops too.. but if your gonna use other shoes make sure you dont use anything to wide..thats why i love converses soo much! for me they work on doops and xsjados..but its not as good..also, if you tight them a lot...there is no pading on the tongue and you will feel it
