Thanks for the review! We are working diligently to solve supply issues and get our headphones back in stock. We should have a few pairs available in the coming days. We are doing this in our spare time as you said and don't want to take pre-orders because we can't guarantee a delivery timeframe, so any units listed on our website are ready to ship. One thing you may not have remembered is that we have recently reduced the weight of the headphones by approximately 80g, making these the lightest version yet. We are also now shipping internationally.

I have the same problem with most headphones with round earpads. The opening is just too small to be comfortable. That keeps me from buying the Borealis, Focal Clear OG, and/or the Celestee, etc. Ear-shaped pads like those by Sennheiser and DCA are the way to go in my opinion. Btw, these look like headphones the Borg assimilated.
@luciascarlet2 жыл бұрын
Kind of depends for me personally; I really really loved the OG Clear pads but some other ones did feel too narrow to me, mostly the ones that have a "0"-shaped opening as opposed to a round opening like Audeze pads and such.

Can’t say enough great things about the borealis. It has now become my daily driver due to the detail soundstage and warmth. In person they are stunning. Also wanted to note their customer service is great as well. My only complaint is that I wish the headband was less wobbly. But I think it makes sense to minimize weight. I have never felt discomfort with these. Pull the trigger if you’re lucky enough to get the chance.

There were some attemps of recreating this headphone on reddit. People tried to acomplish it by using 3d printing for cups, hifiman headband and oem drivers similar (identical?) to those in borealis. I think it would be a very interesting video with you testing one of those "DIY Borealis" and evaluating if they are any good comparing to the original one.
@reallybites87012 жыл бұрын
Waste of time. It's nearly a certainty that a bunch of reddit kids with no tuning knowhow & questionable listening skills could ever actually produce something as good as Bori. Hell, most headphone manufacturers can't.
@p0k3rxryzenforthefuture432 жыл бұрын
Ye i printed one out but instead used beryllium drivers they are very good in my opinion although i personally find it a little peaky in the 4 to 5k. Pretty worth it i spent like less than 200 bucks in total. I do not really have that much of a reference point though for how they sound and dont really care if it matches or copies the real deal
@meteroson64282 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I built two of them. One was with modified beryllium drivers, and one with Tymphany drivers. Both used ZMF Universe Hybrid Perforated pads and the STL files by u/VasilyevichDrago. The Beryllium one is a fun bass-cannon, while the Thymphany one is pretty much like what DMS described the Borealis to be.
@uninja76502 жыл бұрын
The reddit versions were literally people eyeballing the Bori and attempting to recreate it visually.
@meteroson64282 жыл бұрын
@@uninja7650 I'll be honest, most of the tuning of the Borealis comes from the pads. I've tried different kinds of mesh around the driver and even taped it off completely at one point and I couldn't notice much of a difference. Pads on the other hand make or break this headphone. I think most of the R&D of the Bori was in designing and producing the proper pads. So, no replica will ever sound exactly like the original (if better or worse I can't say, since I don't own a Bori). But still, I think the Borealis' price is more or less justified if factor in the cost of creating your own moulds for the earcups and making your own earpads with such a small amount of sales.

Started this hobby much like most people here. Started watching Dms and other KZbinrs, joined forums, fell into the gear rabbit hole. Cycled through many many headphones at each price bracket. Even picked up a multiple modded headphones some from the brains behind Aurous Audio. Finally got into the 1k territory. I purchased the Bori on the second run they made. Have not purchased another open headphone since. It’s phenomenal. Been enjoying music ever since. I did end up modding with Audeze headband and zmf hybrid universe pads. This increases clamp significantly kind of like a new hd600 but the zmf pads and their memory foam hold up well. Personal preference I don’t mind a bit of clamp. I much prefer the more rigid headband structure. Still searching for the Goldilocks closed back though. Need to try the Australis. Any chance of getting your hand on some ETA headphones?

A lot of those higher-end headphones surely try to be the ugliest things on the earth... and some even try to be the worst at comfort. I would have thought that maybe the comfort and design of the headphone would be part of the price, but you really just pay for the sound. Sure it's a niche market but if you want to sell a product at those prices you might wanna consider the whole package. A lot of the big brands do that like Sennheiser but others seem to not care at all. A better implementation of for example the headband which costs 5$ more can't be out of reach.
