Your original video about the Meze Empyreans was my first introduction on hifi headphones, I was going down the rabbit hole for good audio because I was looking for wireless earbuds. Ended up learning that these headphones existed. Fell in love with the beauty of the Empyreans, and found out my friend worked at a hifi shop. 6 months later, after countless home demos and in store sessions, I walked out of the shop with my own pair of Audeze LCD-2. They are heavy, but they sound fantastic. I use them for gaming and music listening. People that I've told about them are floored by the price, but when they listen to it they just get it. They still wouldn't pay that price, but it's just an eye opening experience when you hear good audio for the first time. The hifi shop now stocks some of the Meze headphones, and the Elites are extremely comfortable. The entire line up that I have tried are extremely nice to wear. I don't know how they do it, but they just make them feel as luxurious on your head as they look in your hands... especially compared to how many others have utilitarian comfort, where it's just good enough to wear for extended periods.

The freakish ears-on-a-stand test actually made me feel something this time. I use Senny HD6xxs with a DAC+amp and custom EQ, but the control recording always sounds very flat and tinny to me. The Empyreans test made it sound like I'm listening to the actual track on Spotify or something, which I've never heard with any other headphone you've tested. Great stuff. The first Empyreans to me sound way better, the bass probably doesn't carry well from youtube compression, the II's have a lot less upper mids and way more high end. Harder sell for me.

I really like how the whole 'audiophile' thing is discussed here. Personally, I went for reference stuff because of the whole 'as the artist intended' argument when I first got into nicer audio stuff but I'm much more after fun tunings now. Interestingly, it's that sort of thing that people have wanted me to experience their own gear for over the past few years and if anything, why I want to show people what I have too. I get that there's this whole argument around detail and I think it's why some more high end stuff seems to be treble focused (other than only older people with money to burn and age related hearing loss being a target audience) but I like a more V-shaped sound now unless I'm trying to critically listen to stuff to understand things like mixing (and even then, I'm conscious that my gear isn't neutral). Obviously each to their own and as long as people are having fun I think we should all be happy, I'm just happy to hear somebody talking about what I like. Honestly, I have the Edition XS and build quality aside, I still really love them and especially with a bit of a boost in the low end. The way the Empyreans are talked about kinda reminds me of the XS with a bass boost as I think one of their lesser discussed strengths is that they're not to hard to run for planars and sound phenomenal out of just my laptop. If ever I have a decent wad of cash in my pocket I'll be eyeing these up as they sound right up my street.
@bebobo1Ай бұрын
"reference" tunings probably don't actually sound flat to your ears anyway unless your ears and audio processing brain matter happen to be the same as the engineers who made the headphones
@chickenpie9698Ай бұрын
I kinda question what the idea of a 'reference' tuning is in a sense myself. You can mix and master on different gear if you want to and then it sounds like some music is intended to be listened to on different gear as well. I remember the original Beats being marketed as reference back in the day and the HD600 are talked about as a neutral reference even though their bass doesn't reach that low. As long as people are having fun I don't think it matters too much

The prettiest, fanciest thing I have, they don't match my fugly face at all. I've never worn something so comfy. Legitimately I can wear them for hours without needing to take them off. When I'm just using my speakers at my desk I instinctively put them on because of how used to it I am, and because at times it feels comfier to wear them than not to. Sound wise they do everything I want. I'm no level 100 audiophile that looks for the highest detail. But these have above and beyond levels of detail, all while making everything I hear pleasing and fun. Bassy stuff sounds fun and high treble sounds fun. My only complaint is that the cable they come with sucks, especially for the price of the headphone. But despite that I still find them worth every penny.

I've been using the Classic 99s since COVID, I love them for everyday use. Just looking at the walnut and gold accents is chef's kiss. One day I will have a set of Empyreans, ONE DAY!

Weekly reminder to do a video on Audeze Maxwell!
@damianwozniak3946Ай бұрын
Would be nice to hear his opinion, but I want to warn warn anyone interested in Audeze Maxwell in advance. Just a few weeks ago I returned mine because the planar driver seemingly broke again or atleast no sound came out of the right earcup anymore. This was a replacement I got after my first one had the exact same issue. First one only lated 2 months and this one only 8 months. I habdked them as careful as I possible btw, tho I oersonally think it's questionable to be that careful with a gaming headset to begin with. Like they can just break because you put them on to fast? Anyways this is unfortunatly a rather common issue from what I gathered. As much as I loved the sound and confort of these I just can't recommend them to anyone for how fragile they are at that high of a pricepoint (for a gaming headset). Most teviews on You Tube unfortunatly don't mention that since they don't only do reviews based on early experiences.

Having been fortunate enough to experience both the MKI and MKII Empyrean's I honestly much prefer the warmer sound profile and design of the MKI's. I'm disappointed to see them discontinued as they were my dream headphones. For now I'll likely stick with my 99 Classic's, at least until the 105 Pro's get released as they sound great and are very comfortable.

Bought some 99 Neos back when you reviewed the 99s and have never regretted them. Still going strong, replaced the padding twice and the cable once. Never had a pair of over-ear headphones last this long without breaking from my enormous head. That microphone accessory is sounding mighty tempting...

Out of curiosity I looked up the song you recommended; Pump- Teddy Killerz, Pegboard Nerds and holy shit does the bass PUMP in my Sony ULT900 :D

Oh no ! Another Meze video where I as a Romanian go whoop whoop and admire their products from afar and aclose because they are so out of my price range for headphones at the moment but man do they look pretty! Also I am sure that the characters you play on your recordings would perfectly fit in here too. I've lived some shit and I've seen people like that roamning around and I think you'd actually have a great time here if you ever have an opportunity? desire? curiosity ? too come? The car channel makes me feel like I am hanging out with my dad and his friends and I am like.. hmm so this was the vibe that resulted in our VW T2 double Cabin bus breaking down in the middle of the highway which resulted in my and my dog hanging out there for like 5 hours at least waiting for him to return with another car to tow us listening to.. O-Zone's brand new self titled album (that also had the Numa -numa song on it the one romanian language song that broke containment and reached internet infamy. I as liek 11 at the time XD Those are the memories that come to mind when I see you feeding cars nutella and pepsi.

Desperately grateful for ur laymans explanation of the bass squiggle. I feel so smart
@EdTheNerdАй бұрын
You gotta try the Lyric Wade. I've got them and the Empyreans and they're damn close but they are much more suited to being on the go. Aside from being closed back, the headband doesn't look like a goofy bracket on your head and theyre just as supremely comfortable.

I've had a set of the 99 neo's ever since you made your first video on them. bought them right after and I've had them on my PC for games and music, taken them with me on travels and just generally use them literally every day since I bought them and I just have to say it was the best 200 bucks I've ever spent for any set of headphones that I have. they are just so much fun, super nice to wear and built super well

If anyone is looking for more bassy tracks to listen to when testing headphones, give this one a go, the bass really is something else: 'Rumble' by Skrillex, Fred again.., Flowdan

Man, even on my cell phone, I did not expect those two to sound that different from each other. Obviously, I can't tell anything about the bass stuff you mentioned but just the mids and highs being THAT different... I really expected it to be much more subtle.
@bebobo1Ай бұрын
it isn't that big of a difference it was probably more noticable through your phone because the speakers just have really loud treble, most of them do that

iv had my pair of dt 770 studio headphones for 1-2 years now since i got them based on your recommendations and they have done so much for me. i wore them every day for my last year of high school and i wear them a few times a week in college. they still work great and sound great. all this to say you having an affiliate link for 30% off mezes makes me yearn for $200 spare to buy the neos LOL
