2:37 This makes my heart cry. I was so excited to get these since they would be my first pair of open-back headphones. I ended up buying a pair, from the official site and everything... and they broke within three months or so. I wasn't too rough with them either, I didn't think. They just slowly over time pushed themselves outwards until they snapped. I could see the plastic turning pale at the breaking points. They sound really good! But they broke at the adjustment point, two fractures at each side, and it's too much of an expense for me to buy a new pair. Went back to my DT 770s and haven't gone looking for new headphones since. I've had those things for many years. They're incredibly reliable headphones. Now, maybe I can fix the pair with duct-tape, but man, it's just not worth it by that point. I hate to disagree with DankPods on these headphones, but I say buyer beware! If you buy these, keep your warranty close, just in case! I do hope that the rest of you have a better experience with them than I did.

if you're ever looking for new headphones in the future, the aune ar5000 or hifiman edition xs are both absurdly good for $300. both of them sound way better than these (although hifiman is known to not have the best build quality and QC)

Yeah the metal is great on these but that just makes the plastic points being weaker all the worse, I had Hi-X55s (Weird sound signature, I hope the X65s are better) and for me, the sliding plastic part for adjusting size did just kinda completely fall apart on me. The earpads were also worse for wear, but I think that's the high humidity area I lived in.
@zorilla03 ай бұрын
Beyerdynamic really has spoiled my expectations for build quality. $130 for refurbished DT 770s and they're still built ten times better than competing headphones like the HD 560s, HD 6XX, or AKG K371s. And they're still made in Germany instead of China or Romania. I prefer my HD 6XXs for music and because they're the only other headphone I own besides my Bose QC 35 IIs that have adequate internal clearance for my freakish left ear, but DT 770s will always be my "desert island" headphone because of how durable and versatile they are.

The AKG dev department in Vienna was the wildest set of rooms you could imagine. There was an audio engineer in a suit who used to direct an orchestra next to a metalhead with dreads and cargo shorts working in tandem with heaps of different and interesting people to create some of the best audio equipment you have ever seen. They had experts on every field - classical music, metal, rock, pop you name it - to figure out how to satisfy the broadest spectrum of professional and casual users. And the products that were made in Austria were assembled by hand by lines of women with increadibly calm hands and tons of patience, actually glueing copper coils to the plastic membranes of headphones and the like. But times change and the location wasn't profitable any more.

Another vote for the Austrian Audio here. Got one a few years back and haven't looked back for games and music at home. Also they drive like a champ from even my mobile phone without the need for an extra amp / dac. Austrian Audio is very much under the radar on many headphones channels and are left out in many lists and comparisons. I think because it's a small brand without a big marketing budget to send out free or test samples to hundreds of youtubers. Great that you give them some exposure. This kind of 'actual use' testimony is worth a lot more than a dozen generic first impressions.

I don't have any of Austrian Audio's Hi-X's, but I do have a headset they made called the PG16. In comparison to their Hi-X15, it sounds basically the same as those with the added benefit of having a mic, and many people say that for the money of the Hi-X15s, it's a bargain for professional listening. Granted they aren't openbacks, but the soundstage is really nice and wide, I swear I can hear every detail. There's no mic mute button, but the mic mutes when you rotate the base up, which is a smart and convenient design. It even comes with an audio splitter to separate the headphone and mic plugs. The design is not outlandish either since they stuck with a chassis that works with their then-top-end critical listening drivers. It just has simple red accents to show off a little and that's all that's needed. No LED or RGB lighting at all, and I like it that way.

Motorweek was actually filmed in my home state of maryland. Love watching them. I was actually quite surprised to find out they have a video review of my daily driver pontiac vibe.(not my actual car just the vibe in general)

I'm taking a break from making a Splatoon avatar render to watch this because DankPods is more important than Blender 3:18 freakish ears on a stand mentioned ‼️

its awesome how when the headphones are really close in quailty, my ears dont need to adjust but when theyre different, it takes me a second to like adjust to the quality every time it switches

Considering I've run a HD600 out of a gameboy color just to prove a point multiple times, we really need you to stop talking about the whole ohm myth, it's actually making life hard for people in audio servers lmao

Thay's interesting. I haven't done much research on the subject, but isn't the point that an underpowered source can't get loud enough on the whole frequency spectrum? It will get loud enough to perceive the same volume, but the sound will be all over the place? I don't imagine you could notice a difference in audio quality from a game boy, to be honest. Idk though, worth looking into

I don't have a ton to spend on headphones, I only have a few sets that I listen to. Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros, custom modded with a kit I bought from Custom Cans to convert them to a detachable mini XLR to 3.5mm cable (Dank has a pair of DT770 Pros he bought from them already modded). I bought them cheap off eBay. KZ ZSN Pros IEMs (both cabled and with a BT adapter set) 3M Worktunes bluetooth ear defenders I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD280's that I'm in the process of modding, but I'm having trouble with soldering the tiny wires. I bought them cheap off eBay as well because the cable is broken around the 3.5mm end.

I have been using these daily for long time now, best money I have spent on headphones. They are supremely comfortable around my ears, incredibly well built. But I don't like the sound of them without at least EQ'ing the low mids. The sonic qualities of the drivers make it so that they take EQing extremely well and can effectively be made to sound exactly how you want them to, and you can push the bass, if you so desire, to levels you would not think possible on dynamic drivers without distortion. They're meant for studio work but honestly, I use them for anything at all, gaming included, and I am not wanting for anything else. They are around £300 but honestly, if I did not know that and were told by someone they're £1000, I would believe them.

I ended up getting a few different pairs of iem because of this channel, and have landed on tin T2 as my out in the wild, stuff them in my pocket, wear them with a toque things. Because the sound making part is little and I like that and they're fairly affordable without feeling cheap. And I'm sure whatever halfway decent headphones I end up getting for sitting comfy at home music times will be something mentioned on this channel. So it's cool to learn about company making stuff that isn't crap at not entirely wild prices.

it's funny to see i have two brands of headphones mentioned here just the lowest-end models (the austrian audio X15s and shure SE112, purchased recently)
@AndRewUK243 ай бұрын
X-15 are the best budget wired headphones I have ever bought. Sounds much better with a decent external DAC dongle (FIIO KA5). This setup doesn't break the bank and sounds pretty decent to me. Particularly when you have got not much money to spend on audio equipment.
@segarallychampionship7023 ай бұрын
@@AndRewUK24 the DAC recommendation is a good idea, i'm using my previous headset's soundcard, which sounds fine but when I plug them in my 80s Pioneer amplifier it feels like unlocking bass

I'm actually one of the few people who like coiled cables for headphones! I sit at my desk and if the cable was any longer (not coiled), they'd touch the floor and my chair would roll over it and break the cable (or my PC's/DAC's headphone jack!) over time. With the coils, it's the perfect length for sitting at the desk while still having a bit of maneuverability. I've been using my ATH-M50x's for quite a while, and I'm happy with them. I'm not a fan of bluetooth headphones cuz when the batteries inevitably die they'll be wired anyway.

I agree! Love a coiled cable for desk use

Watch out for the hinges on the Austrian Audios. The Hi-X's at least USED to have some elements of the hinges be... not quite as durable as one would hope. They might have fixed them but... yeah that was a fun time, I still miss my Hi-X60s.

I'm rocking the SE215! It's trashed by some in the audiophile forums which isn't totally wrong in terms of sound quality, but the others who understands the true purpose of these will recognize the durability, seal and comfort of them. Rocking them at work 5 hours a day. When you're on a noisy environment, trust me sound quality matters way less than noise isolation.

Samsung actually did not ruin AKG, it was Harman. Samsung just bought the pieces left after the dissolution.

Thanks to your original patreon video on the X65s I bought them for video editing, music composing, and listening in general. And while the boa constrictor cable can be a hazard and in hot weather my cheeks sweat mad, I do adore them. They are easily the best headphones I own and they always blow my mind. When I get the chance I will buy a mic off Austrian Audio thanks to you!

Can I give you some validation on the Shure IEMs? My music teacher uses the same IEMs as you or very similar for professional DJ work, audio work, music and hearing protection. It works out perfect for him and he still has great hearing at 70. My teacher has been DJing since 1975-76 and has over two thousand credits on Discogs with extremely well known names. He could get any headphones in the world but he sticks the Shure IEMs! He used to use single ear lollipop headphones for DJing but switched to the Shures twenty years ago. DJ lollipop headphones would make an interesting video btw!

As a proud owner of the shure 215s, they slap for bass heads! I would get an after market cable tho if you are gonna daily drive them. Love the og cable but way to long and stiff for everyday use
