This is my review on the Headrush pedalboard. In this video, I modify some of the presets as well as see how it sounds in the mix with an original backing track I recorded. The headrush can be used in front of an amplifier or into a PA or audio interface.
The Headrush pedalboard is also loaded with hundreds of effects and patches that are very easily modified. The headrush is a very similar unit to the Line 6 Helix as well as elements from the Kemper.
The Headrush pedalboard is a really well-made piece of gear. It's heavy and built out of durable materials. A huge thanks to my friend Dom for letting me borrow this off him for the review. I hope you all dig the video!

changing parameters on the fly you mentioned that you have to bend down to alter them. You don't, just press the dedicated switch of the pedal and you can adjust the displayed parameters using the expression pedal. Heel down is 0% toe down up to 100%. This is a great pedal.

If you hold the switch on any effect it will turn the whole board into parameters for that effect. Any parameter can be easily altered on the fly live with the volume pedal or fine tune up down foot buttons! When your done adjusting just hit exit and your pedal setup returns. All with your feet while playing or fiddling

I just purchased a Gigboard (same sounds and effects as the pedalboard), It is awesome. Honestly, the stock sounds were Meh... But Creating a Rig from scratch and getting a great sound really took about 2 minutes, I now have about 17 self-created rigs that sound incredible. I think any of these multi-effects processes now a days are quite good if you take a little time to learn them. You can get very good sounds out of them. Thanks Shane. I always enjoy your videos..

There's plenty of deep-dive videos out there and guides on how to use it. This is a bit of a first impressions video dialing in some tones I enjoyed! Some of the Cabs might have been the third party Celestion IR's as well.

intheblues you can adjust rigs on the fly hands free using the expression pedal. Step on and hold the rig button you want to adjust and push and hold the effect you want to tweak and use the expression pedal to get it where you want and save it.

@@manosassassin These modeling pedals don't amplify the sound, everything is at line level. So you would need to plug into either an amps input or FX return, or an FRFR speaker/cab or PA system to amplify the sound.

Bought one used and absolutely love it! No complaint! Sounds great through FRFR 112 and easy to use. And as he mentions, it is a bit heavy and built like a tank. Awesome unit overall!

If, while you're playing, you hold down the button for a particular effect, that effect goes into "edit" mode and other buttons will change to the "knobs" that you can change. Select the parameter you want to change and then use the expression pedal to adjust the parameter. Press the "exit" button when you're done. Completely hands off.

Hey Shane. I've had this unit for almost 2 years now and have used it live playing acoustic gigs, bass gigs as well as electric gigs. It's done every job admirably. The "setlist" function is a lifesaver in terms of doing cover band gigs. Also, the HR has an effects loop in it which I utilize when I'm playing electric guitar. I run a Mooer Ocean Machine and a Line 6 M5 into the effects loop for some of my weirder ambient sounds, and can place that effects loop behind the preamp section, as one would do. My one criticism with the HR is that the overdrives and fuzzes aren't all that great, so I have an octave fuzz, a Soul Food and a Boss angry driver going into the front. I've been fully satisfied with it live. I generally run it right to the front of house, and use FRFR speakers in practice.

Everything you say here pretty much mirros how I feel about my line 6 hd500x! The overdrives are just so uninspiring. But modulation, delays, reverbs etc are all very good.

on the fly, live adjustments can be done by holding down the button of the effect you want to adjust and adjust any parameter with the treadle. no bending down, all foot control.

Got this board for about a month now, (new of course, I need the warranty and I'm not a cheapskate!) I love the GUI with touchscreen and the ability to change settings and move effects around with little to no effort. It is easy to get some great tones out of it. I got it hooked up to two Alto 310 frfr active monitor/pa speakers. A combination which I sometimes use to really piss off my neighbours that live 5 appartments away. When my GF is over I or I'm in a generous mood toward my neighbours I connect my studio headphones. (again, this sounds awsome). I Am able to compare it with my Line 6 DT50 212 amp which reproduces a Fender, Vox AC30, Marshall or Mesa Boogie high gain amp(not modelled but real analog circuits/tubes). Together with some custom IR's I am able to recreate these rigs very accurately. However in combination with the twin frfr speakers the Headrush creates come awsome stereo delay's, reverbs, etc which my singe tube amp obviously can not. The modelled amps react well to the volume knob on my Les Paul giving a clean tone when dialed back and some great plexi overdrive when turned up. But I guess the Helix and Kemper do the same, maybe better. I also really like the looper which has 20 minutes of looping time, I only wish it had banks to save to instead of some useless slow down/speed up/reverse loop options. Well, I guess they still need to sell the Headrush looper pedal. All and all, the biggest advantage of this pedalboard is the user interface, (big touch screen and the ability to change all pedal/amp effect settings with the hands free mode by using the expression/wah pedal). At that it stands lonely at the top, very lonely.

Try pressing and holding a pedal from the chain, you can adjust the individual parameters in hands-free mode with the expression pedal! It works wonders in a live scenario, fast and intuitive 🤙🏼

I purchased this same pedal board and use it in the studio. It's a wives tale that it sounds digital lol. Using outboard tube compressors and running it into a tube amp and Marshall cabinet mic'd up is just like conventional foot stomp box setup. Running it direct out into the console works like a charm. Running it from output to amp return effects loop works like magic. Many don't understand the concept of digital emulation and condemn it. Theoretically your stomp boxes have diodes and transistors Along with silicon chip technology in them as well. Your still pumping a digital sound into the preamp of your amplifier😂😂😂

Hi. I currently have a Helix LT and can’t figure out how to just use it as a pedalboard with the time based effects into the effects loop on my tube amp. Is it easier/possible on the Headrush to do this? Thanks for your input.

I'm absolutely blown away with this thing......the sheer amount of possibilities and quality therein is astounding!.....I've chased tone since the late 80s and never got near anything I was happy with and I have a JCM 2000 DSL and 1960 cab,various Jackson guitars and Seymour duncans in them,I'm basically crap or impatient to sit tweaking stuff but this thing is rediculas, the positioning of mics and selections are just absurd....I've had many multi effects pedals over the years but this thing is special!.....I work with very a talented sound engineer who just brings my sound alive with a crap sounding patch in rehearsal to crystal clear live!.....with this thing he can just leave me be and concentrate on the rest of the band instead of hearing me moan and moan (I'm famous for it in my band and its embarrassing to be honest) but to just watch him enjoy the night rather than constantly watching my frowns etc makes me feel so much better and as a result my playing is more relaxed and I can just zone out and appreciate my fellow bandmates playing and singing....I can not stress this enough and I'm 42 and been playing since 13.....I'm self taught with all my musical abilities and this has unlocked precious milliseconds of time that were previously used up by me thinking stuff like "oh man that note should have sustained better or even crap like "why dont I sound like those guys" lol......at home with a practice amp playing along to songs with nothing but gain and reverb was perfect and my vibrato came from that but going from a 15 watt solid state to a valve stack is massively different for me.....I'm sorry for the long comment but this is my first experience with IRs and I've sat back and watched players argue and argue for and against and that made me apprehensive about them......sod that guys,my advice to any young shredders or whatever your thing is,this unit is your answer to all your needs and wants,I haven't even scratched the surface of the capabilities of mine yet and I'm amazed I truly am,I can't speak for other products but this touchscreen gives a dinosaur like me the power to get any sound i want when i want......I can't praise this enough! Best thing I've bought in years! Get one,you wont be remotely disappointed!

If, for example, you want to change the settings on you overdrive pedal, just hold down the OD switch for a second or two. The other switches will change to the parameters available to that pedal. Select a parameter and it will show up in the display. Then use the expression pedal to change the setting. Step on the exit button and you're done.

Picked this up and two HR FRFR108 for around 1300 US. Decided against the Mooer ge300 as much as that sounds cool, this does 24 bit @ 44k, 48k or 96k bit rate. That's superior inside. The output through the two FR speakers is amazing me. Can using aux in, add mp3 backing tracks, or a drum machine with separate volume control. I am happy so far.

11:00 you can also change parameters for anything but using the buttons while you're playing! It's a phenomenal unit.

I can see why some artists and bands use these while touring. It might be heavy but it's easier to cart around than a head, cab and pedal board.

I’ve got a Headrush. Super easy to use, pedal switching is a breeze, set up pedal chains for each song. Celestion IRs sound fantastic, and this is half the price of the Helix and easier to use.

I've been seriously considering one of these type of multi-fx modelling pedals - trying to decide between the Headrush, Boss GT1000 or Line 6 Helix (LT or Floor). I like the simplicity of having your entire rig in one easy device. Its also great for gigging as you don't need 2 (or more) of some pedals just to make it easy to change settings on the fly - you can have them set differently in patches and its so easy to to just change patch rather than do some tap dancing to turn on/off separate pedals. Also have patches to change the order of pedals instantly without having to physically swap pedals around mid gig. Its also great that you can still plug in favourite pedals in a loop too.

Keep in mind the Boss only offers a 90 day warranty. Absolutely ridiculous for a unit at that price point. Spend $49 on a pedal though and they'll cover you for years. (?) Not sure about the warranty on Helix and others.

I bought my Headrush used on eBay/Reverb for $700. Saved $300 over new and $900 over Helix. I bought an Atomic 50-watt FRFR tube amp (made specifically for modelers) and a Laney IRT-X (each was < $300), so I've got an awesome setup and all for less than the price of a Helix. Yes, the Helix has more amps/cabs/effects, but who cares? How many of you are real session musicians? You're only going to use a fraction of the functionality of these units anyway, so what's the point of having 75 amp models when you're only going to use 10? The Headrush has 35-40 and I use less than 10.

Those things bundle with a Headrush FRFR 108 right now in Europe and for amazingly half the price of a kemper stage or the Helix. Just ordered the pedalboard + got the FRFR108 for free and had enough to also get a Peavey 6505+ for the same money I was going to spend on the kemper profiler stage .

I bought the Headrush pedalboard and a Marshall DSL 100HR half stack this month. The Marshall sounds great but I hardly use it because the Headrush has taken over my guitar room. The amp simulator is the best I've ever tried. They sound legit like the original amp they are modelled from. I'm playing the Headrush through a Randall 150 watt solid state half stack and it sounds incredible.

Had the Helix for a while. Went the Headrush Pedalboard route and I liked the amps in the HR unit much better. Got mine in March of 2019 and have put 75 live shows on it since then. It has been nothing less than stellar. Going straight to FOH with it and use IEM's on stage. I don't miss my amps and pedals one bit. The Helix is gone. Long live Headrush. I think they did a phenomenal job with this unit. I downloaded the free Celestion IR's and use those in quite of few of my "rigs". This unit rivals the Kemper and Axefx in the amp department. I will say that it doesn't have quite the caliber of FX that the other units do (maybe the Helix) but for what I do, this covers way more ground than I need it to do. Super easy to set up, changing parameters on the fly couldn't be easier. I'm in love with this unit. The one thing I would know is that the built in tuner is a bit sketchy. Usable but it could be better. The unit is really easy to see on stage even in straight up sunlight. If you're on the fence, don't be. This is a stellar piece of equipment. Nice review @intheblues! Edit: I will state that I have also used to into the front of my amp and it's still great sounding. Connecting it to my EV ELX200 - 10p and recently purchased FRFR108 is also stellar. I know I'm coming off sounding like a fanboi but I guess that's what I am at this point.

@@VelhosNovos that's why I ditched the Helix. It's hard to explain. The amps in the HR just "breathe" much better than what I was able to get out of the Helix. I've seen guys coax really good sounds out of the Helix but I wasn't one of them. With the HR, I was able to get not just good sounds but great sounds with little more tweaking than what you would do with a regular tube amp. The effects in the HR aren't as plentiful as Helix but what's in there is good and pretty much all usable. You won't get weird modulation stuff and 1000 reverbs and delays but since I'm a live player mostly, the HR has way more than even I'll ever use. If I truly need something more extravagant, I would probably go with a TC Electronic or Lexicon rack unit in the loop and be done. The built in cabs in the HR are ok but I settled on the Celestion free IR's and do a cut at about 100hz and 5.5K in the IR itself. It's pretty badass.

I think HEADRUSH NAILED THIS. Its SO f****ng FUN to use. That's why its sp good. It's actually FUN and intuitive to dial things in, and they truly nailed the interface and the satisfaction factor just make it over the top. I seriously cannot remember the last time I had so much FUN playing with a piece of gear. It wasn't daunting, or frustrating, just a pure FUN experience. It's easy, and the tones are great. I use mine 4CM with a high gain head that midi. Forget about it.

I hope maybe you'll have a go with the new MX5 from Headrush and make a video about that... I really wanted a Gigboard but haven't been able to get one, now they have made a smaller unit that hopefully I will be able to afford to pick up in 2022... I think one of these will be nice for learning guitar and being able to play a host of different songs with differing guitar sounds. The MX5 is only the cost of 3 or 4 reasonably priced pedals, includes tuner and a pretty awesome looper function (also probably a good learning tool), and looks to be a really versatile little unit. I can't compare to anything else, or judge it's imperfections compared to analog pedals or anything, nor am I expecting perfection....just a close approximation of tones... so I am sure a Line 6, Headrush, Boss, etc. would ALL sound fine to me. thanks again for the content, cheers

All these products have pros and cons. The HeadRush products with their large touch screen user interface and hands-free mode are huge pluses as is the usb audio interface. If you get Helix Native for the Helix products you can dabble with things inside your daw even when your hardware is packed away and you can save them in the editing software and send it to your hardware. The Kemper has profiling which lets you either take a snapshot of your own hardware settings or import other people's settings and tweak too. The beauty of the Kemper is you can save stuff to a USB stick and load that into another Kemper unit if travelling light between home and a studio for example. The Fractal gives you crazy in depth control and probably has the best reputation for effects. Atomic AmpliFire range is great value. Positive Grid Bias also has the mix of hardware and software too. Boss whom has a long history making multi effects and pedals has their GT1000. Mooer, Hotone, Nux, Zoom, etc also have their own offerings.

I would love someone to try using the HeadRush Pedalboard and Kemper together. I'm gathering the HeadRush would have good midi implementation and you could certainly spend some time customising the settings to make a formidable combo. Basically like a RJM Mastermind LT with a touch screen plus built in modelling to compliment the profiling but that may just give many of us option paralysis and the midi setup may be a pain unless someone has created custom mapping like RJM has done for Kemper and other units

That 227 fusion rock patch was awesome! I havnt had a multi effects board since the Boss GT100. Is was pretty crap...Seems like things have come along way with tones being more tactile and airy.... Dude if you were too recommend a pedalboard now, which would you say to go for? Headrush, Helix Lte, Moore or other????? I went back too cheaper single pedals a few years ago but having a number of great presets that are easy to get at would be great.

I bought one of these on a whim,... as you do,.... but as shown here,...... it is so complex it needs to be used at waist height for tweaking parameters etc. Apart from the amazing possibilities of this device,... I'm going back to a DS1 and maybe a Chorus pedal (or,... if I can find one,..... the amazing original 1970's Small Stone Phaser!).. I sold mine,.... what a Tw@t!"

You forgot to mention you can build set's list's in another mode and you can turn of each effect and adjust the amount of effect with your feet live. You didn't mention the built in looper either. It's a good unit lol! Kemper is double the money as well.

As an AX8, a HX Stomp and a Headrush Gigboard owner -since you can get great sounds from these 3 units-, IMO, this last unit is the best. The reasons: * Headrush has better DSP; * Stock cabs of helix products sounds horrible, on the other hand, headrush stock cabs sounds as good as IRs. * Headrush amp models have the same controls as real amp ones; * Fractal has a pornographic amount of parameters to get the same sonic results compare to headrush; * You need to be a NASA's graduated to be able to understand all the things you can control on fractal units; * Headrush let you change rigs with almost gapless switching.

The thing is I’m playing modelers thru a regular guitar cabinet. They’ll never sound as great as utube guys or pros since I’m not using all the other stuff like computer interfaces, and IR’s and protools, etc. So tube amps and just dirt and or fuzz or overdrive will always win. I’m not a gigging pro so 🤷‍♂️. FYI the one modeler that does sound great and simple to use is the Yamaha/line6 owned 100hd. Love it.

Well we all know big amps on stage, roadies carrying those amps, the huge array of cover band songs are leading to multi effects, and computers are the future.. In terms of tones, I really think the Headrush wins against the Helix. I've had mine for 18 months and see how it's tech support and lack of a computer program to organize rigs have held it back, but I do think it is quite underrated in terms of great, out of the box tones.

Thanks for the video! The sounds were great, but... were they? I'm listening through OK studio monitor speakers, and I noticed that it didn't sound anything like an amp was in the room. No balls. Nice, but castrated. I'll need to check out my Fender Mustang Floor, and see if the same is true (although I never use it!). I dunno , I've never been a really big fan of. Pedalboards / Multi effects guitar units , like DigiTech _ others. Because I usually only end up liking a few if the effects. And I never come even close. To everything they can do. I'm more of a person. Who likes shopping for single pedals. Because I can be super picky. About stuff I like , when it comes to pedals.

Mine is coming in today. If it works out it'll become my sole pedalboard. I'm looking to possibly run it into the effects return on my amp so as not to color the sound. I'm wondering though..can I run the mono out to the amp and run the stereo xlr's to the mixer at the same time? Some systems allow one or the other. I mic the amp and this would eliminate it and turn my amp into an onstage monitor.

I noticed the Kemper before you mentioned it. Would you say it sounds as good as the Kemper? And the big thing, which has a more convincing Vox jangly clean tone. I ask because I am getting ready to buy one to use in church for modern worship music ala Bethel and Chris Tomlin. Which both often use tone that are a clean Vox amp with pedals for distortion. I am leaning towards a keeper Stage profiler which is the floor version of the profiler but I have heard mostly good things about the headrest. Though I have heard it's more suited for metal players. anyway, thank you.

I just purchased the headrush pedalboard, and I'm not entirely sure what sound setup I should get for it. Mind you I always play bedroom volumes, I don't go to band practice or anything. the genre is metal. From what I have seen, the headrush frfrs both 112 and 108 are entirely too loud. At most I would turn the volume to 2/10, which makes me doubt that it's the right speaker for me. Any advice?

Now that i have your attention? If you plug it into an analog console and then process the guitar with analog hardware external? Then capture the sound in a computer daw digitally? Does that still make theguitar sound digital? That's how your favorite guitar artists record these days...

I noticed the Kemper Profiler lurking in the background. ;-) Regardless, this is the best demo I've seen/heard for the Headrush Pedalboard. It makes me want to buy one! Thanks for demonstrating overdriven, clean and distorted tones. This would be good for direct recording in my home studio and for a backup rig, if one the tube heads and combos I use goes "tits up" at a gig (it would be smaller and lighter weight and than dragging a backup head or combo).

Left handed, Flying V, massive guitar pick that is held weird..... Everything about how you play feels completely wrong to me but you can clearly jam. I love the massive variety of approaches to playing guitar--its just proof that its not about doing something the "right" way because there isnt A "right" way. Great video!

Sound great hear thru an interface BUT I have one and thru the Headrush cabs it sounds very muddy and bassy, eq'ing doesnt fix it. It's good thru decent speakers

Hi , nice review and playing - I look out to every video you post and must admit I copied some of your chops -(hope you don't mind.) For really cool Headrush Patches or Rigs as they call them absolutely check out Marco Fanton, Rick Di Donato and Choptones on KZbin so you can get an idea of the sounds you can achieve with the Headrush Pedalboard and it's smaller brother the Gigboard and even buy the patches -if you want to - for instructions on how to use it a very good one is Doctor McFarland Studios. Got rid of mine. USB noise and nonstop problems. The factory sounds are not very good. All need tweaking. It best to build all new rigs. Amp models are good, but not great. Concept of this unit is wonderful. But it’s not the end all and be all. I tried for months. I bailed on it. Best of luck. Hope everyone else has a better experience.
