Loved the conversation!! Could you both please invite Dr. Jillian Horton, a writer, internist, burnout advocate, and wonderful person? She is the author of the memoir "We Are All Perfectly Fine," which explores her journey to becoming a doctor, her struggle to balance writing and medicine, and her eventual realization that she could pursue both. The book offers a compelling look at medical burnout, delving into her challenges and struggles during residency and beyond. Dr. Horton also touches on how the journey through medicine changes people, making them feel different as they transition from residency into society.

Come to Detroit!! 🙏🙏✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️🤲 🥺 (in 2025)! We got the Detroit House of Comedy, and steveioe was there doing healthcare comedy. We got other comedy clubs too! This was a great pod. A professor in a pre-nursing pre-allied health intro class played Laurel's TED talk (the one from 4 years ago) to our class. That was my first introduction to her. What a great outlook on life and medicine and our humanity's role in it that she has!

OMG Yes, it can't be just Fauci.... Absolutely. Very interesting podcast. Medicine is an art as well as a science. Thinking outside the box, creativity in surgeons...biomedical engineering innovation... the list is really endless.

Commencement speeches are like a half-hour long or forever, I can't remember which. After the first five minutes, the message is lost in discomfort in a folding chair that has practically no padding. Your legs are threatening to go to sleep, every muscle is screaming to move, no water to be had, eyes glazing over, feet tapping and time watching, etc. NOBODY likes or remembers the speeches themselves. If I were a Commencement coordinator, I'd limit every speaker to five minutes. Just like in church services I'd have something in between each to stir up the crowd from their stupor and cramps. Singing the school song. Announcing things to make people cheer (I dunno, the number of games won? Woodcock Society Awards? Grawmeyer Awards? Number of honor society awards? Professional society awards? Published papers?) I'd keep the speeches to about 3-5. President, Provost, and Guest Speaker. That should be enough.

If you're bored, it's more likely you, not their content...these are not usually meant to entertain but rather to educate & inform. 😊
