Oh man, that sucks...... For what it's worth - most of us (who are being honest) have been there. I remember losing a doe in my early years of hunting and it bothered me for a month. I asked myself what I did wrong a thousand times. It boils down (in my case) to being over excited and to eager to release an arrow. Unfortunately it does happen, I wish you all the best for the rest of the season.

Live and guts, it sucks when a shot dodnt work out, i shot low on a doe last year and thought i completely missed untill i looked at her through binos and could see a flap of skin right below her sternum

I wished you had grunted or something to maybe stop the deer. I don’t make the grunt sound as it moves my diaphragm and my pin. I make a with my mouth like calling a dog, it’s like clicking sound but doesn’t cause my pin to move.

Ive had deer take off running on that paticular public land from the grunt. Super pressured.

@@Chestthumperoutdoors last year at one of feeders on a property we have for pig hunting mainly the deer became very jumpy and skittish in literally one week. On Friday we hunted it for pigs and the few deer there wouldn’t come in to the feeder. Was very odd because they were always there waiting out in brush for the feeder to go off. Went back Saturday morning and hunted. Son got a 125# sow. Then we did a little recon and determined someone or more had been in there apparently several times during the week. Boot prints not ours and a candy wrapper and several cigarettes butts up the crotch of one of the trees with a ladder stand on it. Called the warden and he found tire tracks with one odd tread. Turns out a week later he found the truck and the guy. Told me he warned this local hired hand to stay off. He was careful to not get his pic in our game camera. Very irritating. Guess he was educating those does all week somehow.

a lot of newbies do not understand that you should never shoot at a walking or running deer. I'd say most new hunters have made the same mistake. it only takes once to learn that lesson.

Know the feeling brother, hit one and searched for him tracked him a long ways with blood til it ran out.

I am surprised there was not a good blood trail. It looked like a good hit to me,,and I have seen worse that recovered the deer. I just got a nice 8 point that didnt lose a drop of blood until a 100 yards . Found him 50 yards more but feel I got lucky after 3 hours of searching. After watching your shot again sure seems the lungs were hit. They are a tough animal to kill.

I watched it back a ton, although it wasnt near perfect, I didnt think it was bad, but best blood we found was a drop the size of a nickel.

@@Chestthumperoutdoors Dang,,I agree and thought it was not a bad shot IMO. Must have been just wrong enough to not allow blood to exit chest cavity?? High exit hole can cause that if lungs not hit great.

That shot was cents of the body and just below the backstrap. No organs up there. Just flesh and bone.

@@jimlahey3919 You meant center of the body. Well not quite center,it was a bit toward the front. There is a spot there that could be just behind the lungs,,above the Liver,,below the artery that runs below the spine and in front of the intestines. Jeeze how un lucky is that?? lol

looks to me like you hit just above the lungs and below the spine. Shot was pretty far back and high. I hit a doe like that once. never found her. Bow hunting is tough and things happen, especially when we get excited.

Opposite side exit wouldve been 3-4" lower.

Rookie mistake. You don’t fling arrows at a deer walking full pace. Stop the deer. Just say the work “map” loud enough thatbtyw deer hears it and it’ll stop on a dime. Also, there’s no way you hit the liver. You damn near hit the backstrap. That area on the top half of the deer, above all the organs is called no mans land. It’s just flesh and bone up there. No organs. Very little blood. There’s less than a 10% chance that a non viral shot like that is going to kill a deer

Well your to far but I just bread my red bones that I use for blood trailing could get a puppy off them
