I am 71, and this movie reminds me of a guy I went with when I was19, same pants, jacket, and attitude, he was 20 and was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was a Long Island nomad and I always wished he would have come back like Bobby did. I still cry when I watch this.

I used to watch this movie all the time with my dad back in the 80's. It brings back a lot of memories. My father passed away in 2016 so every time I see this it feels like it brings me closer to him. I never used to cry to this movie until now. It's sad that you never realize what you truly have until it's gone. Not only does this film bring back those memories but it's also one I would recommend to anyone who has lost someone they loved. I found myself crying again while watching this, but the difference this time was that I had a smile on my face.

I'm always amazed at how many people haven't heard of this film whenever I talk about 80s movies. For me, this is up there with Weird Science, Ferris Bueller, Naked Gun and Police Academy! I watched this on a grainy VHS countless times as a kid and memorized every scene, it's such a warm and fun movie with a very important message about the importance of being yourself and accepting others for who they are. The scene at the very end with Bobby going up the escalator, pondering everything that has happened, then gradually smiling as he approaches Heaven still makes me choke up a little! To this day, whenever someone asks me if a task is possible, I'm sure to tell them.... "I got it covered!" 😃

It sadly competed with movies that would go on to spawn juggernaut franchises in the film industry. Movies like Back to the Future and Terminator were in much of the spotlight at the time. As a result, this movie is a hidden gem now.

Bobby died in 1968 when his g/f was about 2 or 3 month pregnant... that makes Lenny about 16 or 17 in 1984-85. The cars used in the races are over 10 years old to-be-junked cars.

One of the most memorable and gripping scenes is where Bobby goes back to the wreckage of where he died , him walking up and pounding on the car he wrecked and died in was as if he was saying to himself, I should have listened to Emily and not did the race and could have been with her and had children of his own, and grew old with her. Tugs at me every time.

It was one of the best eras for music and movies. TCM has expanded its library to include classic films from the eighties. We got: The Breakfast Club, The Lost Boys, The Princess Bride, Splash, Big, Back to the Future, The Terminator, Into the Night, Against All Odds, Something Wild, Cat People, Fright Night, An American Werewolf in London, Body Heat, Body Double, and more. Concert tickets were affordable, and we camped out at record stores for the good tickets. Our President sucked though. The wealthy rarely trickle their money down. I would only go back for my looks at that age, and to change my university major.

I was there when they shot this movie at my high school. I was about 17. I remember all the high school locations in this movie. I tried peeking in the cafeteria but square opening on the double doors were covered with, I think, white paper. Times were so great then. The fight scene outside the h.s. doors is where I used to wait for my dear friend. She was so beautiful and sweet. So many fond memories in that school. Oh I miss those good ol' days.

So many memories from this movie. I wished we all could get one do over in life. First saw this movie with the love of my life at her birthday party sleep over. I was the only boy there and I had to sleep on the couch in her living room. She snuck in and this was what we watched. From 4th grade till we were 22 we went seperate ways. Seen each other 12 years later when my mom died and realized we were very much still in love…..miss you jenn and I know you miss me. To get a do over like this would be peaceful

Excellent and classic movie. I’m a 70’s kid graduated high school 1980 at 17; still teenager into 20’s but still love when I grew up and love the 80’s; being late teens and 20’s. But love the whole storyline and lesson. It doesn’t matter to me flaws or no flaws. Look at today’s movies; no comparison. The music was fantastic too! Although I started my teens in the later 70’s ; it is the music from the late 70’s into and including 80’s that I love the most even today.

My only deal is that if Lenny is Bobby's son... that would've meant that Sharon was pregnant with him in the late 60's - during the summer of love, the hippies, Vietnam, Woodstock, etc. Yet, in the beginning of the movie they make it seem like they're all in the early 60's, late 50's. This is 1985 and Bobby is AT LEAST 18 years old. Therefore if Sharon was really pregnant with him during the pompadour and "greaser" age of 1961, Bobby would've been like 24 or 23 years old. Didn't need this swerve, but whatever.. still such a great movie.

@Yoshi the Democrat ….no, but the movie was released in 1984. And everything from the fashion, to them music, to the cars and even the language screams 1984…. Not 1973
