You know, as much as i love extended range guitars, you're kind of right when you say that most ERG's seem more like tools as opposed to having a character that stands out like on a Les Paul or a modded Fender Strat or Tele even, and i completely understand how you feel about it. There's are some companies that have made some absolutely gorgeous looking 7 strings in the past like ESP's MH line, as well as what you see from a lot of custom shop builders nowadays. For the most part though, whenever i pick up something like a Standberg or an Ibanez, it feels more like i'm holding an M4A1, a H&K G36, or any other modern firearm; what it lacks in character, it entirely makes up in efficiency.

@@Returnality it's moreso an opinion, but i personally feel like Strandbergs are more geared towards playing efficiency than aesthetics. That doesn't mean i absolutely wouldn't buy one if i had the cash for it though, because i would. I've been dying to get one solely for recording and general practice purposes because of how great they play.

I owned an 8 string Boden original a few years back and I regret selling that thing every day. The funny thing I hate a flat radius and I hate multiscale guitars even more. Yet, through some black magic Strandbergs are still super comfortable for me. The ability to sit comfortably in regular and classical position is an absolutely huge plus.

I pre-ordered a guitar through them a while back. 8 months or so later they told me it had been shipped when I asked about it. By the time a year since the order had passed and I still didn't have it, or anymore information from 10s, I got a refund on it. They said it had been lost in shipping but it was around the same time that other people were having tons of issues getting guitars from them. All that said, I still want to get my hands on a guitar from them.

@@agufish not as terrible as one would expect. I currently have a set of Dunlop 10/60s on it for Drop A and does great. No mud, no tuning instability issues (has non-locking Grover tuners). Upper fret access is pretty typical to any other LP. Kind of a shame they quit making 7 strings, but I assume that market for them has totally shifted to the Epi MKH model by now.

I just bought a guitar from 10s you're not going to find anywhere else, it's a lefty baritone Les Paul, black with a red burst. Looks absolutely insane, took about 3 months to get to me 😄. I actually tried to cancel the order after a few weeks with no updates, but no response. About a month later I got an email that they were working on it and would have it done soon. I have it now though and I'm glad I went through with it.

I had a Cort single cut 7 string about 10 years ago. Cool guitar. I traded it for a black G&L with a maple neck and fretboard that was being ignored at my local music shop. It was a "Patent pending Fullerton CA" on the neck, pretty sure it was a Rampage prototype, it was labeled SC1 or something like that, yet when I looked it up SC1 didnt exist. It had a single Bill Lawrence humbucker in an oversized strat body. Best guitar I have ever owned by a mile. Like a total fool I traded it for a Half stack so I could "play along live with a drummer". Not all that glitters is gold. Some things that look simple and humble are absolutely beastly when plugged in.

I bought myself the LTD EC-407 last year and it's the best sounding and playing guitar I've ever owned. I love singlecut guitars but I've only ever owned two. The rest of my electric guitars have all been superstrats. I'd really love to see more singlecut 7 strings especially from ESP/LTD with more color options. Right now they have about a trillion different color options for their 6 string Eclipses but only matte black and white for their 7 string Eclipses.

I'm rather interested myself, but with basically no stores (near me anyways, despite me being Dutch and it being a Dutch brand) selling them... That demo track is definitely one of your best yet. As for the guitar. It definitely looks awesome. Kinda makes me wish PRS and tremonti would dab into the 7 string realm and mark do a 7 of his guitar with a 26.5 inch scale. I can dream right? That said 10s has seemingly come a good way forward since I first learned of the brand in 2019. Hopefully they can continue to grow and improve.

Tesla pickpus are phenomenal on a 6 string. I have them in my Aguda and they absolutely blow me away. I feel like I'd have similar issues as you if they were on an erg though

Best affordable 7 string is the Jackson JS22-7. It can be bought for sub $200. Pickups aren’t the best but they’re most definitely not the worst! The guitar just needs a setup after purchase and it’s good to go, even with the cheap pickups. It feels great to play which is crazy for a guitar in this price point. Also makes for a great guitar if you want to learn how to upgrade or just upgrade in general!

Very true. The Ibanez RGIB6 inspired Rabea Massaad, which then spawned the ML1 baritone. But those are the only 28" baritones I can think of. As much as I love my 277, I often wonder why PRS didn't go to 28". And as much as I nearly ONLY play my SVN anymore, I often wonder why PRS didn't go 27.7 on them. I would buy a 277-7 in a heartbeat.

CAUTION: From my personal experience with 10s Guitars, I cannot recommend them. I enjoy and respect many of the reviewers on KZbin, but keep in mind that most if not all of the social media influencers on KZbin received their guitars at no cost to them. 10s Guitars knows these instruments will be used in a review and has assured that they would not be embarrased in an unboxing and review. This was not the case with the purchase of the10s Guitars Chords of ORION model guitar that I received. In my opinion there was no quality control performed at all. Deeply disappointing, as after seeing all the reviews on KZbin, I thought they would be different than the guitars you find in the Chinese marketplace. The Chords of ORION guitar scale length was to be a baritone specification and was shown on their website having a 27.7" scale length. The one I received was 27". The strings supplied were light guage and for a standard tuned guitar. When tuned B-B as a baritone instrument, it was unplayable. The toggle switch and/or neck pickup did not operate at all. Although the process took weeks to resolve, In short, this was my experience when contacting 10s Guitars to advise of the condition of the instrument: In regard to advertised scale length on their website, they responded by stating the the scale length I saw on the website was an "error by their employee". They have since changed the advertised scale length on their website. They wanted video of the playablity issues with the instrument, and it was provided to them. I was then offered a discount to keep the instrument. In my opinion it was not sufficient for the repairs required and appeared to me to be a ploy to move their quality issues onto the customer. I attempted to negotiate a larger discount based on my experience in repair of guitars. They refused. Based on these issues and what I deemed to be a cheap poorly constructed instrument overall, I elected to return it. That being said, I do have a "Chibson" instrument I purchased from China that I stripped and after replacing the pickups and hardware plays ok. On build quality alone, I honestly did not see the value of return on investment with the instrument 10s Guitars sent me, and I feel I could buy a similar quality instument from Ali Express at a fraction of what I paid for the 10s Guitar. 10s Guitars would not take responsibility for their errors and stand up for their brand by providing return postage in full, offering me a small fraction of my return shipping costs. Again, in my opinion a ploy to get me to keep the instrument. I tried to negotiate compensation for shipping and was essentially told, they would provide the small shipping credit they were offering (Quote) "Take it or leave it". I cannot recommend 10s Guitars, but if you decde to take the gamble: Be sure to use PayPal for some protection. They were very helpful assuring a refund for the guitar and postage to me, but not the aditional shipping costs for it's return Before purchasing be sure to find out what it will actually cost from your shipper to return it if you need to. It cost me considerably to return it to them. Lesson Learned.
