Well, Viserys has his position because of Daemon. It was Daemon who was gathering the lords support​ for Viserys in the Great Council, lots of lords were ready to support Rhaenys. So instead of thanking his brother and keep him by his side, he kept sending him away because of Otto. @bloatus7611

Mr. October pretty much hit the nail on the head concerning the dragon eggs and how they bond with Targaryen kids in the cradle and afterwards. Otto is more of a cross between Tywin Lannister and Middlefinger, than he is like Varys. Description of Daemon from the books: "In his day there was not a man so admired, so beloved, and so reviled in all Westeros. He was made of light and dark in equal parts. To some he was a hero, to others the blackest of villains." Daemon loves Viserys. He would never harm him. When he was 16 Daemon raised an army to defend Viserys' claim to the throne. What Daemon wants is to restore House Targaryen to its former glory. In his eyes Viserys is weak and that weakens House Targaryen. That's why he wants to be Hand of the King.

The intro sequence beginning with Episode 2 is, literally, the Targaryen bloodline. Each of the round devices represents someone in the line. The first was Aegon the conqueror (with the symbol of his crown) and the streams of blood represent the children of that person. When the device fills with blood, it means that person has died. The last symbol shown in the ep.2 intro was for Rhaenyra, using the symbol of the charm on the necklace that her uncle Daemon gave her.

One of the things with the princess picking the Kings Guard, She is supposed to be a teenager like you very well pointed out. Plus, it was established that she had not been raised exactly for power. She was expected to marry and have kids. But she was also obviously pampered and they let her do her thing. So you really get a rebellious teenager. What do you think she will pick? She is going to pick the hot strong guy. She is not yet thinking strategic. And it would be quite remarkable if she could think strategic at this point in time. She is very much like: "I do my thing" She needs to mature into her heir role and see if she can find the right balance between being strategic / powerful. On the marriage age thing, there are some historical examples in European history. In times of political instability or war, sometimes girls could be married very early if that translated into some important strategic alliance. Couple examples you can google: England: Margaret Beaufort, the mother of the Tudor dinasty. She was married at a very young age in the middle of the War of the Roses. She became a widow single mother as a teenager. And somehow managed the long game political play. Castille: Joana la Beltraneja, she was also married at a very early age and married to her own uncle. This was because her right as heir was being disputed. She married her uncle who was the King of Portugal. This was in hopes that Portugal would support her claim to Castille. She was very much defeated. Had no kids and was kind of forced out of Castille and should have spent her life as a nun. She lived in Portugal and because she was former Queen of Portugal she was allowed at court and well taken care. Just to give you 2 interesting historical examples with girls who had to marry at very early age. One won the long term game, the other lost.

Actually, both houses Velaryon and Hightower existed in GoT, but they don't have any visual presence in the show. The Velaryon, being vassals to Dragonstone fought with Stannis in The War of The Five Kings. House Hightower arguably should have been included as they are one of the richest and most influential houses in Westeros (despite not being directly involved in the politics during that period). They are the house that established the Citadel and their castle is the tallest in Westeros. Taller than the wall. Fun fact: Margery Tyrell's mother and Jorah's ex-wife are both Hightowers (and sisters).

No spoilers: in game of thrones many things were omitted, but this is just an extra fact that broadens your perception of this world. I don't know if you remember Margaery and loras tyrrel, from game of thrones, well they descend from the hightowers, they mother Alerie Tyrell who didn't appear in the show is the daughter of the Hightower lord of her time, which would make Alicent her great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-aunt (give or take a few "greats") and old town is where sam was learning to be a maester and where he cured jorah. old town is the ancestral home of the hightowers being the center and birth of the knowledge of westeros, being consequently a wealthy and politically powerful family, pd: the hightowers are still alive, they just didn't have much presence in game of thrones.

The guy with the dreds is Corlis Valereon. They are another Valyrian house but they don't have dragons, they have ships. Corlis is famous for making 9 voyages all over the known world. There are a cluster of islands called "The Step Stones" that is between Dorne and the Southern part of Essos. Anyone who wants to sail ships in the Narrow Sea has to pass them. From time to time, pirates set up there and disrupt shipping. Corlis has a problem with this since his business is shipping. The throne is closer to GRRM vision but still much smaller than what he describes. That was Cyrax, Rhaenera's dragon that lit the funeral pyre. Balerion died shortly after Vyzzy rode him for the one and only time. The only thing that can really kill a dragon is another dragon. The old king Jahaerys (the one they showed in the first scene) had 13 children. Only 9 of their children reached adulthood and all but 2 died before Jahaerys. One was a maester (and not a good King candidate) the other became a sex worker in Lys after her father exiled her. That's a good question about why Baelon's egg didn't go to the fire with him. They put the dragon eggs in the cradle so they can bond with the baby. Often times this works. Caraxes (The Throat GOAT) is Daemon's dragon. Cyrax is Rhaenera.

To explain the relationship between the King, Viserys and his cousin Rhaenys: The old king you saw was their grandfather. He had 2 relevant sons when it came to his succession, the elder and heir was the father of Rhaenys. The younger brother was the father of Viserys. The elder son and heir is was killed in war and soon after the new heir the younger died from apendicitis. Leaving the eldest descendent from the eldest brother, Rhaenys and the eldest male descendent, Viserys competing for their claims.

The Velaryons during Game of Thrones have lost a lot of power. They are vassals of Stannis and the ruler died during the battle of blackwater. But their looks still remains Valyrian (silver hair). Cersei in the books even thinks that Aurane Waters ( he is the bastard son of the current Lord Velaryon) looks very similar to Rhaegar Targaryen. Yes in House of the Dragon they decided to make the whole house from people considered "black". By the way, this might be even a George Martin decision (or very much approval) since he actually said it on a interview in the past the he ALMOST decided to make the Targaryens as "black" with silver hair.

There still are Hightower’s in GOT. Otto is the second son as well. Margaery and Loras’ mom is actually a Hightower I believe who was never in the show. Hightowers just never had any screen time in GOT. There are also Velaryon’s in GOT also. But they never got featured in GOT unfortunately as well.

The miniature that Viserys is working on is the capital city, can't think of its name, of Old Valyria. Otto, he's like a combination of Tywin Lannister, all about family, and Littlefinger, plans within plans, within plans. You'll see about him and why Daemon doesn't trust him. More dragons and they are far larger than Dany's Drogon

Corlys Velaryon is Lord of Driftmark and resides at High Tide which is closer to King's Landing than Dragonstone is but adjacent to it in Blackwater Bay. He is the wealthiest man in all the Seven Kingdoms but no pirate 🦜. He earned the title "The Sea Snake" because of his nautical accomplishments as he sailed all over Essos and brought back rare jewels, treasures and exotic animals and precious spices the likes of which Westeros had never seen before. His family is predominantly Black on the HBO adaptation and they are descendants of Old Valyria who actually came over from Essos before the Targaryens did.

Rhaenys, Viserys, Aemma and Daemon are all grandchildren of the King Jaehaerys. All of Jaehaerys' children died in his lifetime. Rhaenys was the only child of Jaehaerys' firstborn son, Prince Aemon. Viserys and Daemon are the sons of Jaehaerys' 2nd son, Prince Baelon and eldest daughter, Princess Alyssa (yes, brother-sister marriage). Aemma is the child of Jaehaerys' daughter, Princess Daella. Viserys is married to his 1st cousin, Aemma. Jaehaerys himself was married to his sister, Queen Alysanne.

A couple of things: GRRM has said before that because Daenarys and Viserys grew up in exile in the Free Cities in Essos that she spoke Valyrian with a Tyroshi accent. What we're hearing in this show is "proper" High Valyrian. The miniature city you see in Viserys' chambers is a model of old Valyria that he's been building.

Never liked Damon, still don't like Damon. To be honest, the biggest difference to me between this show and GoT (obviously the world is smaller, and the dragons are more numerous and bigger)...but GoT made me love multiple characters very early in the show. HotD, not so much.

House Hightower is there in Game of Thrones, They just didn't play a big role. They're the Lords of Old Town. Sam visited there to train as a maester.

​@@morpheusjones4753: They didn't quite "introduce" one, but there is at least an explicit mention of one in the show that I could find, namely in season 6, episode 3, "Oathbreaker"; when Cersei and Jaime crash the Small Council there's a statement by Kevan that they don't have any position there, to which Jaime replies that the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard does in fact have such a seat, which prompts Cersei to ask Pycelle whether or not this is true, and then he says: *GRAND MAESTER PYCELLE:* _Well, um...I would say Ser Gerold Hightower had a seat on the Mad King’s council. Of course, that was the Mad King. King Robert saw things differently._ In the same episode we also see this very Gerold Hightower, "the White Bull", guarding the Tower of Joy along with Arthur Dayne (and Oswell Whent), so he's not only mentioned by name, but also in fact shown on screen (although Bran only mentions Dayne by name at that point). He is also the only Hightower to be mentioned throughout the main body of _A Game of Thrones_ (the first book), four times in the context of the Tower of Joy, and once by Barristan Selmy when he's being dismissed, arguing that Gerold Hightower himself (the then Lord Commander) had witnessed his vows. Apart from the main body there are also a couple of mentions in the descriptions of the main houses at the end, in the context of House Tyrell, to which House Hightower is sworn. The most important mention there is the fact that Mace Tyrell, Margaery's dad, is married to and had her with Alerie Hightower, making Margaery half Hightower; that's certainly something of note. The only other note is one Leyton Hightower, "Voice of Oldtown, Lord of the Port", as the penultimate name listed there, which would be the head of the house (which is what Hobert, Otto's older brother, is in HotD, Otto is also one of the realm's "second sons"). In _A Clash of Kings_ (the second book), this Leyton is mentioned again, this time in the context of Jorah, who tells Daenerys that his second wife was Lynesse Hightower, whom he praised as incredibly beautiful, and who was the daughter of said Leyton; he also says the aforementioned Gerold Hightower was her great-uncle, and that the Hightowers are an ancient family that is rich and proud, to which Daenerys adds that they were also loyal, having heard that Viserys (her brother, just to be clear) said they stayed true to Aerys (the Mad King, Daenerys' father). Then Renly briefly brags to Stannis about all the banners he's raised of various houses following him, mentioning Hightower as one of them. Another mention there of Gerold is when Jaime is telling Catelyn about what the Mad King did to Rickard and Brandon Stark, stating how Gerold had taken him aside and reiterated that he had sworn a vow not to judge the king, so as to make it clear just how loyal Gerold was to Aerys. And in the end there's a small mention of Leyton's wife being one Rhea Florent. In _A Storm of Swords_ the first mention is when the Lannisters and Tyrells are divvying up the spoils of war after the Battle of the Blackwater, where Lord Hightower is mentioned as being given a tract of land. Tyrion also mentions that offending the Tyrells is offending the notable houses sworn to them, including the Hightowers. As part of the same meeting Tywin also mentions how offering Tyrion in marriage to various houses had been considered an insult, including by Leyton Hightower. Then there's a brief mention of Gerold by Jaime as he fights Brienne, listing him as one of several people who had been stronger than him, as he thinks to himself that Brienne is too, and that she doesn't appear to be wearing down. Later there's another mention by Jaime as he recalls his investiture into the Kingsguard, which Aerys had made a great show of, and where there had been a great roar when Gerold had raised him up and placed the white cloak on him, just to be immediately followed by Aerys bossing Jaime around to various places, making it clear for Jaime that he'd been chosen to spite Tywin by taking his prime choice of heir away from him. Jaime also has a nightmare where Gerold some of the others (like Dayne and Whent) remind him of his treachery of the Mad King. Then later Catelyn is talking to some Mormont women, where they briefly mention Lynesse, and Catelyn remembers Jorah having brought her to Winterfell, and that Lynesse had admitted that she was unhappy and that the north was no place for a Hightower of Oldtown. The next mention is a cooler one, as it's Otto Hightower himself being mentioned as a bunch of hands are listed; he is said to have been renowned for learning. Then there's a mention of one Lord Commander Runcel Hightower of the Night's Watch, who had apparently tried to bequeath the Watch to his bastard son. Another mention is when Jaime moves into the apartment where the previous Lord Commanders had quartered, asking himself how the Kingslayer could be in the exalted company of such people as Gerold (and Selmy). Then there's a listing of Selmy's life history in the book he finds, where Selmy is stated as having been appointed to the Kingsguard by Gerold at 23, and having unseated Leyton at a tournament held at Storm's End. Another interesting mention of a hitherto unmentioned Hightower is when Oberyn recounts to Tyrion their first encounter, talking about Elia, his sister (who was later married to Rhaegar, and played quite a prominent role in the ordeal that ensued), and that one of her more presentable suitors at that point was one Baelor Hightower, son of Leyton; sadly he farted once in her presence, upon which Oberyn had called him Baelor "Breakwind", and he was never taken seriously by Elia again. Tyrion thinks to himself that Baelor was still Leyton's heir, and was "wealthy, handsome, and a knight of splendid respute"; he thinks about how Elia would probably still be alive and living in Oldtown if she had chosen him, wondering "how many lives had been snuffed out by that fart".

@@morpheusjones4753: Then in _A Feast for Crows_ (the fourth book) it starts off with a prologue in Oldtown, where "the distant breacon of the Hightower floated in the damp of night like a hazy orange moon"; their seat is after all literally a great lighthouse. There's also a mention of another one of Leyton's titles as Lord of the Hightower being "Protector of the Citadel"; this is where Sam studies with the maesters to become one himself, underscoring both the association between House Hightower and learning and their connection to the maesters. There's also another very powerful description of the Hightower itself that I will quote in its entirety here, where it's also mentioned that Leyton apparently doesn't leave the Hightower at all: *_«And beyond, where the Honeywine widened into Whispering Sound, rose the Hightower, its beacon fires bright against the dawn. From where it stood atop the bluffs of Battle Island, its shadow cut the city like a sword. Those born and raised in Oldtown could tell the time of day by where that shadow fell. Some claimed a man could see all the way to the Wall from the top. Perhaps that was why Lord Leyton had not made the descent in more than a decade, preferring to rule his city from the clouds._* Then there's a mention of Obara Sand wanting to march on Oldtown, to which Doran Martell ask her how exactly she plans to hold it, to which she says it will be enough to sack it, mentioning "the wealth of Hightower". The next mention is when Pycelle tells Jaime about some of the things he's seen during his life, talking about how he were a boy "when the grey plague took half the city and three-quarters of the Citadel", and how Lord Hightower (not Leyton, but one Quenton Hightower) had burned every ship in port and closed the gates, and commanded the guards to kill everyone who tried fleeing so as to prevent further spread; after the plague the people had brutally killed him and his son for it, mentioning how the ignorant in Oldtown to this day would spit at his name, despite how he had done what was necessary according to Pycelle. Then there's another very interesting mention that really ties in with the events of the series, namely how the High Septon at the time of Aegon's Conquest had locked himself in the Starry Sept (the seat of the Faith at the time, highlighting the connection between the Hightowers and the Faith) to pray for seven days and nights straight with just bread and water, emerging with claims that the Crone (one of the Seven, the gods of the Faith) had "lifted up her lamp to show him what lay ahead", and that Oldtown would burn if they opposed Aegon, and that the Starry Sept and the Hightower would be destroyed; it doesn't take a military genius to realize this, but Lord Hightower complied and laid down his arms and opened up the gates to Aegon when he arrived, anointing him and accepting him as king. There's also a mention by Sam when he and Gilly is approaching Oldtown, and Gilly sees the castle of Three Towers, the seat of House Costayne, and remarks that it's very tall, to which Sam replies, "wait until you see the Hightower". More interestingly is how he then speaks to the captain of a ship who tells him that the Ironborn are plundering Oldtown now, which surprises Sam as House Hightower was said to be as wealthy as House Lannister and able to command three times the swords of House Tyrell, but the captain implies both that the Hightowers weren't prepared for such a threat from the sea, and also that there are some signs that Leyton, who hasn't left the Hightower for a long time, isn't quite in his right mind. The aforementioned Baelor, his son, is mentioned again as building ships, and various other Hightowers are name-dropped as having various responsibilities in the task: Gunthor, Garth, and Humfrey. Gunthor is shortly thereafter mentioned as another of Leyton's sons (so Baelor's brother), as he comes aboard Sam's ship for inspection. At the end of the book there is an entire section dedicated to House Hightower this time around, including a description, which I'll also quote in its entirety: *_«The Hightowers of Oldtown are among the oldest and proudest of the Great Houses of Westeros, tracing their descent back to the First Men. Once kings, they have ruled Oldtown and its environs since the Dawn of Days, welcoming the Andals rather than resisting them, and later bending the knee to the Kings of the Reach and giving up their crowns whilst retaining all their ancient privileges. Though powerful and immensely wealthy, the Lords of the High Tower have traditionally preferred trade to battle, and have seldom played a large part in the wars of Westeros. The Hightowers were instrumental in the founding of the Citadel and continue to protect it to this day. Subtle and sophisticated, they have always been great patrons of learning and the Faith, and it is said that certain of them have also dabbled in alchemy, necromancy, and other sorcerous arts._* *_The arms of House Hightower show a stepped white tower crowned with fire on a smoke-grey field. The House words are We Light the Way.»_* A list of family members is also provided, and I'll just mention the hitherto unnamed Hightowers: - Malora Hightower, "the Mad Maid", Leyton's daughter, whom he is apparently consulting spells with while locked in the Hightower as the Ironborn keep plundering Oldtown. - Denyse, Leyla, and Alysanne Hightower, all three more of Leyton's daughters. _A Dance with Dragons_ strictly speaking came out shortly after the first episode of the show (GoT) was released, but I'll consider that one too. Apparently there's only a single explicit mention of the name Hightower here, where one Lady Dustin talks about how a certain Maester Walys is noted to previously have been Walys Flowers, with "Flowers" being a bastard name like "Snow" and "Sand" and so on, and that he was rumored to have been the son of a Hightower girl and an archmaester of the citadel, with the remark that the "grey rats" (what she calls the maesters) not being as chaste as they wanted people to believe. So there you go, those are all the explicit mentions of the name "Hightower" in the books. As you can see they clearly weaved into the story and world it's set in; even if they don't feature that prominently in the story they're definitely one of the greater houses.

In One of Bran's vision of Robert's Rebellion (in Dorne), We do meet Lord Commander Ser Gerold Hightower, of the Kingsguard along with Ser Arthur Dayne. Although, Dumb&Dumber made it appear him like a sidekick to Dayne despite him being a legend in his own right. Also, Jorah Mormont's "expensive" wife, was a Hightower.
