Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. The fact that they lumped Ballroom and Drag history together is interesting.............................. Ballroom is it's own thing and continues to be a thriving artform and Drag/Crossdressing has it's own history. I'd say a lot of overlap happens but, they are both beautiful artforms that shouldn't be reduced to the same thing

I love what happened in the last 10 seconds of this video. To show someone (a white man) calling it a “death drop”, which signifies someone who is only tied into the mainstream gay culture and has little to no knowledge of the underground/ballroom scene and its origins, to then switch to Dominique (a Black trans woman from ballroom) reject “death drop” and call the move what it truly is, which is a “dip”… shows you that there is still a divide in the information amongst our community and that the mainstream LGBTQ+ culture steals from the ballroom scene/underground scene widely populated by Black and Latine LGBTQ+ folks and convert it into something else that it’s not.
@bastioncory67402 жыл бұрын
Sorry to break it to you. Ballroom is no longer underground. It's very much mainstream with multiple TV shows and movies. Ballroom and Drag is continually being learned by LGBTQ+ and Non.

The history, the whole story, of drag queens AND ballroom culture took you 6 minutes. Either title your video something else or don't do this. To me, this came off as a very transparent attempt to be like "see, see we are cool and we love the gays. Yay Pride!". Six minutes! Ugh. I mean, do the video but call it a very superficial and brief introduction to drag queens and ballroom. Calling this the history of both is just insulting.

@@wendybutler1681 Wendy with all due respect you’re only seeing the drag side of things. Drag history has had plenty of time to explain its origins but what the LGBT community takes from the most and knows the LEAST about is ballroom. Most white gays don’t even know the first thing about what ballroom has done for our rights and safe spaces. There are so many more shades to our community than just drag.

Robin Williams did cross dress but, Drag is a very specific queer artform. I wouldn't consider Mrs. Doubtfire, Tootsie, or The Twins from white chicks as drag queens. Id considere them as deep disguises. Drag isn't really a costume. I'd say it's a heighten representation of the person. Someone like Lady Bunny doesn't stop sounding quirky and weird when she's out of drag but, Tyler Perry is not Madea out of drag yk?

How is this empowering for children or empowering at all(serious question)?
@argiegentiles6962 жыл бұрын
First, everyone can do drag,either you’re a man,woman,trans,gay etc. Drag is a self expression you can wear a wig,costume,or any thing you’ve like to wear. Second, some children are born to be gay,trans etc and its been proven through science. So creating this kind of “narratives” or show help and empower them that’s its okay to be different, its okay to express your true self (HONEST ANSWER!,,)
