I've watched all of these Herlihy sketches that SNL has posted and you will notice that Sandler can't even look at Farley when he is doing his thing because he knows that will be the end of him if he does. It's his only defense against Farley. He does slip a little at the end of this one when he looks over at him for a second right when Farley delivers "Lordy Bigordy!". Sandler also has the benefit of his character's tic of having that "always almost laughing" type of smile so you can't really tell if he is trying to hold his laughter the whole time or just in character.
@Lukas-ip1qc4 жыл бұрын
@@gustafsone I don't think he actually looks at Farley during that part. It looks like he reads the teleprompter right when Farley says the line, you can see his mouth miming it.
@jdsalinger1473 жыл бұрын
The Herlihy Boy skits are perhaps the greatest example of Farley's brilliance. There's practically nothing there to work with, just pure Farley as the driving force refusing to let the skit fail.

It's like the perfect comedy ecosystem. Farley gets the laughs from the audience by trying to catch Sandler off guard, and Estevez (phenomenal in THE BREAKFAST CLUB) is exactly the right palate cleanse or fulcrum before Farley brings it all home, like when you yank the shower nozzle toward a drastically different temperature and the water momentarily stops spraying while building up the momentum to shoot out the new-temp water.

The ideas that they came up with back then were so amazing. IN GENERAL, I loved the 90s. It was an explosion of ideas. Now there is a lot of mimicry (sports, movies ,music etc) from people who have trained at young ages to be “technically great” but i feel there is something missing. There will NEVER be an Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, or Phil Hartman ever again.
