@SupaawesomeificationАй бұрын
Gotta provide a little nitpick here. Ruin and preservation weren’t separated. They’re both of the original 16 shards created during the shattering. The shard of Harmony that Sazed becomes at the end is entirely new. There’s never been a single holder of two shards before. This is important for later cosmere stuff Also, Rhythm of War, Bands of Mourning, and Secret History all have the same reveal in it so you can realistically read those 3 in any order

Endings have become pretty scarce in the age of endless sequels and reboots, and even though Scadrial is far from done in the grand scope of the Cosmere, era 1’s ending is so clean one couldn’t ask for more. *Hero of Ages Spoilers* That said, part of me hopes we’ll see Vin and Elend again far, far down the road when the cosmere comes to an end.

To clarify the "taking of a Shard" discussion: the person has to be conected to the Shard, as in the general intent of the person has to match that of the Shard. I have to correct something, the Shards doesn't go with the closes person who is there to claim the power if that person doesn't have a connection with that shard specifically. Thats why Sazed was the one who can take both powers because he was equaly from Ruin and from Preservation. Kelsier for example was more from Ruin, Vin was more from preservation, Sazed because of the things he lived and the fact that Feruchemy is the magic that comes from the combination of both shards he was able to take both of them. (For the note Alomancy is from preservation and Hemalurgy is from Ruin). Also Ruin and Preservation were two different shards when they create Scadrial, they separate in the fragmentation with the other 16 in the past and only merge toghether again when Sazed taked the two powers.

So I can see why people don’t like Era 2 of Mistborn because it’s a very different. In addition, he wasn’t planning on writing those books originally. He wrote book one because he missed the world. Loved the characters so decided to write a series. Started book 2 and was interrupted by wheel of time so had to put it down. Once he came back couldn’t quite get back into the groove so wrote the 3rd book then finished the 2nd. Book 4 he wasn’t able to tie everything together. I really enjoyed it. With that all being said he wasn’t able to do his normal full planning. So I don’t think it’s his best but it is amazing and I love the new characters and story. I also feel like it gives some great Cosmere hints. I also think it’s far from his worst. That for me would probably be Warbreaker and Elantris. Elantris I can understand though because it’s his first published book. Warbreaker just didn’t hit it for me. I’m going to be at Dragon Steel as well! I hope to run into you all while I’m there!

Spook's plotline made this book for me. Spoiler ahead: The way Brandon had me believing Kelsier was somehow back because how else could spook have miraculously gained pewter burning... I was so excited, but confused, but cautiously expecting it to be a trick somehow. Finding out it was all a deception was amazing, but left me still a little disappointed the man himself wasn't living on. But then comes the best part of the whole trilogy for me. When Spook is giving up and deciding he was never as important as the rest of the crew because Kelsier never trusted him with an important task of his own, out of the blue, without any reason, or explanation, you get a voice in his head. "I named you, Spook. You were my friend. Isn't that enough?" Absolute magic.

Yeah, the last 200 pages of this book was actually insane. I don't think I set it down that whole time and it made it my favorite mistborn book. Great discussion guys! Anyway, spoiler discussion: I actually disliked Spook's plot line. It's not that I didn't like Spook and his personal journey, because I thought that was pretty impactful. It was just that so much was going on in the rest of the world that I was invested in that I didn't care about what was going on in Urteau. Also, reading it for the first time I was able to notice that Sazed was likely going to be the Hero of Ages because it is constantly Sazed's voice the whole time. He will say things like "I am, unfortunately [this thing]" and that's what allowed me to figure it out.

Feruchemy is both preservation and ruin. There was nothing on Scadriel before these two came

Book by Book review for Era 2. One video won’t be rambly enough for my liking. 😂

Secret history does spoil era 2 but it's not really anything substantial enough to ruin any part of the story so I'd recommend reading that first. And this is coming from someone who loves era 2

Technically RoW+FE spoils the Bands reveal.

I LOVE era two of mistborn but I don’t expect full videos for each book. Maybe do two videos for era two. Split the series.

When would you recommend to read Secret history? I prefer it after Bands of mourning. And I think they should read era 2 and secret history before Wind and Truth, just in case

Has anyone ever wondered what would happen to the story if Vin chose not to wear the earring from her mother that prevented her from tapping the power of the mist? She would have beaten the crap out of the Inquisitors the first time she entered the Lord Ruler's castle, then beat the Lord Ruler himself senseless, then proceed to beat the crap out of everyone else, end of story. Vin could easily have chosen not to wear the earring, because her mother killed her sister and tried to kill her. I give Sanderson credit for tying all the parts of the story together at the conclusion, but the entire plot is based on such a flimsy and mundane plot convenience as Vin wearing an earring that the whole plot is stupid. The story didn't have to last 3 books, it could easily have been just 50 pages.

To be fair, that’s most stories

Era 2 isn't bad at all the issue people have is mostly that they think they'll get more of Era 1, which isn't about it at all. Era 2 is more personal stuff, smaller scales but very fun adventure books with some of the Cosmere's best moment and characters.

Neat!!

Spoiler for Hero of Ages: I like that your discussion reflected on religion, and the trinity. In Christianity, God became a man in the person of Jesus. In the Mistborn story, a man became a god (or a shard, I guess?)
