The reality is that only Smite and Paladins were Hirez's games that were successful and managed to maintain a good number of players for a long time, even so with the money they earned they decided to invest in completely different projects, always prioritizing Smite which yields and leaving Paladins and other side games. Maybe one day they will make a Paladins 2, but Hirez has once again become a one-game studio, Smite, is the cycle closing or restarting? No Paladins 2 is the end of Hirez...

Simple fact is when Smite dies, Hirez dies. Until they make a new game that pops off it's the only thing keeping the company alive. This is why they doubled down on a Smite 2. None of those other games, Paladins included, made money and could keep a healthy player base. It is what it is
@jackfrost62687 ай бұрын
and why they couldnt keep a healthy player base ? maybe the shitty changes they do ? the lack of effort to fix bugs ? removing features , not listening to the "unhealthy" player base when they ask for something yet they add useless stuff no one asked for ?

Man, I hate everything they did to Paladins until now. Those buggy patches as hell, doing absolutely nothing about hackers and just removing the top play and the killcam, Terminus (He doesn't even work), and so on and on. I used to play paladins every day for hours. It was one of my favorite multi-player, but now it's just sad. I can't look at that game anymore and have more and more games that actually have good content like Helldivers 2, or when I stopped playing in 2020 games like Warzone, why do I even bother to try playing Paladins again? That shit is still my most played game with 1300 hours, and I don't regret that time, but now I just can't play it anymore. It's sad seeing that game slowly dying.

imo what killed paladins was how they catered the patches and balance almost exclusively to new players, making dumb nerfs to characters that only work on low elo while leaving characters that are only broken on high elo alone, and paladins was mostly kept somewhat alive by the dedicated long-time players since most new players would often just quit after a week or two, so it was counterproductive
@FromWitchSide7 ай бұрын
The base of the issue imo is they can't just stop themselves from constantly changing and reworking their games. Most people forgot about OB44, not to mention the switch they pulled off, as it was initially supposed to be like OB64, but community went full angry mode, so after like 3 days they said they hear us and came up with Essence system... which was added next week, meaning they had it made and ready to begin with. Then OB64, then when Realm Royale lost whole playerbase and Erez supposedly backed off, they said they learned their lesson and won't do any more big changes and reworks, well that didn't last long did it? Not to mention due to the outcry from the community after the champion spam, they swore to never champion spam again... but they did (around the time Azan was released). With that champion spam, the Propel rework which took all the fun out of Drogoz for me, the incoming dmg Pip nerf, I just said to myself "I had enough of this bs" and did quit the game. Back in 2016 when I started I told myself I will stop playing the second they will nerf Drogoz too much, as Drogoz was the reason I started Paladins since I've arena shooters background, but honestly there were so many smaller or bigger things through the years, it was about the time anyway. Often it felt like devs were just trolling us hard, not a small friendly troll for fun which I appreciated from time to time, but actual malice filled actions in spite of their own players. Slap on the face is to put it lightly, we were ignored, belittled, straight lied to, and so on. btw. I actually gave it a shot again a few weeks ago, and the item shop was an absolute mess for no apparent reason. It is like HiRez is doing meetings where devs sit and ask "what can we change in the game next" instead of "how to improve our game so our players like it more". I don't think they even understand that players are their customers and what it truly means. As for other games I recall the playerbase of Realm Royale showed HiRez the finger after the sudden reworks pertaining to classes, their weapons and forges. While admittedly the game was still at the early stage after the release so big change wouldn't be weird, they did manage to anger the playerbase who simply switched the game as there were plenty of battle royales available at the time. I will also say that I found the game appealing, but ultimately it got boring fast for me - after getting killed on the very first landing, I had 100% win rate without having any sweaty fights really and despite being fairly new to BR games. I don't know if those were the enemies I was getting, experience from Paladins or maybe the combat was just a bit too simple for my liking, but after the first 2 games I couldn't find much excitement in it. I know you liked it much more than I did, and continued to play for long, so maybe it was just me/personal experiences. Certainly I could see the game was good enough that I wouldn't be surprised if many people enjoyed it despite me not so much. About Tribes Ascend they failed at basic Tribes elements - players of Tribes 1 and 2 didn't like the small scale of the game, while rare Tribes 3 (Vengeance :P) players like me found the game to be still simpler, forgoing any actual strong points the already streamlined Vengeance had (grappling hook), and generally of worse quality. Above all the Spinfuzor wasn't really working as it should imo (felt random in one of the axis or something, don't remember exactly), and the Assault Rifles felt out of place, not to mention once you unlocked AR it was acting as a one guaranteed free kill which combined with grind felt on the verge of pay to win. Next DKO... well, with all the respect for the genre, it was just an overly simple boredom which I was sure will fail after watching it for 3 minutes. Unless the other games like this are much more complex and fun, I think the only way to make it fly is really to be the first on the market, which as you said yourself, they weren't. The topic of marketing and promotion is just so extensive, I don't feel like even starting commenting on it. Although sure it was fun how broken Paladins was after the "full release", I recall soon after I was not even being able to play the game at all for like 2 months, because the never fixed bug of effect icons shifting the UI finally broke it (and it was extensively reported since 2016, but they just ignored it for years). And I think we should really blame Erez for all of it. Even if he backed of, the damage was done, he set up the company and devs, and as it all runs off his money he still should be supervising how the company works. Not to mention Prophecy is already getting into the trouble despite trying to distance themselves from HiRez - there is a small boycott of Tribes Rivals going on due to it using Denuvo. They are organically losing players even before the actual launch, as people stop at Denuvo installation prompt, and never even check the game. I fully understand Erez can do whatever he wants with his money, and in his place I would make my own games as I wanted them as well, but any creator wants people to enjoy his work, and since we are talking mainly "game as a service", it means it is a business too.

Can anyone actually give me a coherent explanation of why paladins is bad? I’ve seen like 3 videos in the past three days about it, all rambling half hour rants of “one time, this dev did this, and there was like uhhh.. uhh streamer.” Other than the occasion glitch or random dc, what is the ‘actual’ problem with it? I ran across it a few months ago and I’ve had more fun with it than any shooter in years, and both of my two friends I play it with agree.
@Mia1996034 ай бұрын
I've been playing this game for around 9 years and honestly I don't see what the huge deal is about. This game's been buggy as hell since the dawn of time, so it's not it. The balance is better than it ever was - I remember when at least 1/3 of Champions were broken, now it all feels much more fair and the items make much more sense gameplay-wise. Battle pass is cheap and easy without any need for grinding, and even if you don't pay for it you're gonna get a few items for free. Daily quests and trials keep you plenty occupied and they are achievable - it wasn't always the case. The skins are high quality and mostly creative, plus you get plenty of opportunities to get them for free. The devs started adding old elements of the game that the veterans such as myself missed (POTG you'll forever be missed [*]). You can play dmg with any support and be successful at it while still healing - this used to be an either or situation, some supports didn't have viable healing or dmg talents, that's no longer the case and lots of cards even encourage you to be an active support instead of a healbot even if you play a healing talent. I play at the oddest hours and I've never waited longer than 3 minutes for a match. Other than the DDOS I've been thrown out of a match ONCE in the past 5 years (it used to happen with more regularity) but it's no wonder so many players cry about it - if you uncap fps and tweak the game in the most absurd ways in your graphic card settings just to abuse bugs then you deserve no compassion for getting dc. Reported players actually get banned - it used to never happen, at all, now I get at least 10 as*holes banned every week and it's beautiful. The new champions are pretty cool and fun with more nuances mechanics to reap all benefits than just "dash-shoot-dash-punch-reversal" which a child could do. Old players cry some of the new champions are broken (mainly Kasumi and Omen which is absurd, but I remember when I mained Skye in 2016 and she was nerfed to the ground because idiots couldn't be bothered to buy illuminate) and make up arguments to back this up, but Andro, Cassie, Drogoz and BK have been actually broken since forever and they see no issue with that. So on and so forth Lots of the critique comes from ranked players, but ranked is ruined for me forever because of the playerbase, nothing to do with the game. If the people complaining are the same I've met in ranked then idgaf about their opinions, they're worthless anyway. Besides it's no achievement to group with 4 friends and ride straight into GM. I've played with brainless GMs in casuals and they can't even comprehend the most basic strategy, plus their massive egos really get in the way of executing any viable plan. Get into GM on your own merit and it might mean something to me. Also most of the critique I hear is either exactly as you put it (so nothing concrete, they use the word "inconsistent" a lot but don't bother to outline what's the baseline for their argument so it means nothing) or crying the game isn't the way it was 9 years ago - like that's the problem. 9 years ago wasn't the high of Paladins popularity and glory, and it was a COMPLETELY different game back then. Nostalgia isn't a viable argument in a discussion, ever.

Often in dev/tech companies PM/CM people have this kinda "boot-licker" behaviour because that's the only thing they do right at this position... if this means "go trick a content creator to do stuff free" they will do it... in the other case, it makes more sense because rising a big issue like that it a workplace like that might be really complicated (they SHOULD be able to deal with stuff like that) but since she decided to stay clean and keep the job in the moment then... nothing to do... My point is, tech companies (regardless the business sector) have this kinda situation were everyone tries to keep the job and stay away for trouble even if that means betray someone... is sad that management, HR and higher-ups are just there to keep company's wealth over (lower ranked position) employees...
