What an incredible place my friend. I love those big open scenery areas. I’d love to do some backpacking in an area like that. Really cool 👍🏻👍🏻

death valley is one of the easiest places to backpack as long as you carry your own water... just pick a spot and start walking, very few restrictions out here!! we're hoping to backpack a few miles this weekend in an even more remote area!

That was awesome. Love those Hidden Dunes even more than Eureka Dunes. Very scenic out there plus I’m just drawn to these kinds of lesser known places. Glad you two survived that night on your first attempt. It just shows how quickly things can turn bad and even those of us with a lot of experience can still get in a jam.

that first trip we knew we might get lost and it was sort of a test that we /failed/ hahha// at least in this area we knew eventually we would figure it out but it was a big reminder to be way better prepared in the future. was so nice to have this huge area to ourselves on a busy weekend, the regular dunes were Packed with people

I hiked into here solo in July 2021. No one comes here as it is the middle of summer and you need to know what you are doing. Hidden dunes and the hidden valley behind them are possibly the best part of DV in my opinion. Truly beautiful solitude. Just take a bearing and cite a landmark as to where you leave your vehicle before you go into the dunes through the gap in the hills as it is hard to spot from the dunes and you definitely do not want to lose the location of your vehicle in the extreme conditions or when you are tired. Even more so if you are suffering from any exposure to very extreme heat. I have travelled the world. DV in the summer is one of the very best places.

yes we like it in summer too, but this was a little easier to hike in... and as you can see while there were people in the main valley, no one out here.... such a great spot

I sure enjoy your videos. You get such great footage and do so many pano shots it really makes me feel like I’m on the exploration with you two. What a great spot and such a beautiful desert.

DO IT! and you really dont need to hike much if you dont want to, the views from the car are often plenty. We do as much auto touring as hiking out here

Such a nice hike out to those dunes. Can't imagine getting misdirected out there at night. I've driven to the trailhead in the middle of the night to do the hike the next day. It was a great experience. Glad it is still kinda off the main radar of most people.

yeah we were thrilled that with 40 people at eureka, None came over here that weekend... super fun hike !! getting lost was crazy, it was So Dark out there with no moon! never again. next time i trust my knowledge of the stars! when i went at night over summer i left a light beacon on the truck for guidance, but i actually couldnt see it until i was almost half way back.. definitely need to know your way out there!

Thanks for the dunes tour. I like your zoom feature. Have you been to all of the dune fields in the park now?
@potatothorn3 жыл бұрын
no/ we have seen Ibex from a distance, but have not been to them// have not even laid eyes on buckwheat (yet). have not hiked to panamint either but i think Roxana wants to do that one so we will eventually. i love that zoom too but i should really be using a tripod darn it oh well.... these are REally fun dunes for the hike and dunes themselves both, highly recommend them
@DeathValleyDazed3 жыл бұрын
@@potatothorn - Ibex Dunes are an easy flat hike from parking and not too far out. You’ll enjoy The Panamint Dunes but it’s four miles from parking and eight from PSR. I might do South Pass to the dunes for my third go at the Panamint Dunes.😎
@potatothorn3 жыл бұрын
@@DeathValleyDazed oh now that you mention south pass, we have seen Saline Dunes from the hills but never went all the way into Saline Valley either// thanks for the info about Ibex, makes it more likely we will try and get out there soon!! panamint is a long hike we know// will have to take it on at some point...
