Right stalk up will cancel Autopilot. Right stalk down will confirm lane changes, and also signal that the driver is still there. (No need to move the wheel that way to confirm you're still paying attention.)

I was stopped at a stoplight once, and decided to take a turn. I had a habit of disengaging AP from the stalk in that situation before a turn. But this time AP wasn't engaged, so it went into reverse, then I immediately accelerated before noticing ... almost hit the car behind me, lol

@@brantwedel Yes, that's one possible problem with using the shifter stalk for Autopilot. However it's probably wisest to not use Autopilot at all on city streets. It's not designed for that. About choosing a Supercharger stall: there are some Superchargers that do not have the typical 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B stall arrangement. Buckeye, AZ is arranged 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 1B, 2B, 3B, 4B. So if you park four spots down from another car, you'll be sharing power. I have no idea why they wouldn't make all stations the same (as if it wasn't confusing enough to new owners) but you want to actually look at the labels and choose a unique number.

The video mentioned the home part, not the work part. If you are home, pulling down will take you to work. The catch is that if you are shopping a mile from home, see traffic, and want to use the navigator to figure out which way to get back home, pulling down will navigate you to work. It's not strictly true that doing it away from home will get you home. Presumably, they are assuming that I might park a mile from home, walk to my car from the house, and want to drive to work. Or something that absurd.

Don't know if it's already in the comments, but the parking brake resulting from the long press in the shifter stalk is for emergency braking while moving. The" P" mode is more than enough to secure the car in all stationary situations. In a silent place you can even hear the the brake calipers engaging after pressing as usual the P button. The "Parking brake", if properly engaged, will always work in any moving scenario even if normal braking is properly functioning. But this feature is there if you can't engage normal braking while moving. Try it in a secure road driving around 20-30 miles\h, continually press the P button and see the car come to a stand still.

You don't have to hold the brakes to put it in Neutral. It would obviously be safe to do it that way when you are stationary but I use Neutral to coast downhills (it turns off regen). It's more efficient to coast down a hill than use regen as the resistance trade off is not worth it since regen can only absorb so much energy at a time. In my case, I just hold up while I'm going downhill (it disengages the motor) and you can coast down, once you want to put it back in drive, just hit the stalk down as you normally would and you'll get back throttle control.

When talking about ideally not parking next to someone at superchargers, it’s worth clarifying that 1A and 1B stalls for example are not necessarily always next to each other. Also, none of this applies to urban chargers.
@rogerheuckeroth74566 жыл бұрын
Its also worth mentioning that if you are in A and someone pulls into B, it does not effect your charging speed. The system gives "first serve" priority to the first car to make sure they get charged and on their way. B will be limited to the remaining capacity (B = 120 kw - A. This is something that many people don't realize. I had one person get upset that I was going to slow her charge down because I pulled into the other half (all others were full). Instead of reaching and dragging the title bar you can swipe up and down on the music icon at the bottom. This lets you adjust the display without reaching as far. Also, as a shortcut to close out of most apps, such as car settings and return to the default navigation view, you can touch anywhere in the white space around the car avatar on the left side. This is a shorter reach than touching the close button in the settings screens.

The parking brake part is confusing. I thought the brake come on automatically when put to park and off when put to drive.
@ItsKimJava6 жыл бұрын
That is just to put it into park, vs engaging the “parking brakes” which would be good if you are parking on a steep hill.
@teslacult13796 жыл бұрын
Like Tesla But when you put to park you hear the parking brakes engaging. So once it’s put to park the parking brakes automatically come on. Why would there be a need to press and hold. I get it if your trying to use that feature in neutral but not after you put to park. I think what’s that doing is releasing the parking brakes
@TommyboyGTP6 жыл бұрын
I wondered this too since an ICE transmission physically locks it to keep you from rolling.
@johnh82685 жыл бұрын
It's actually the same function, but just applys the parking brake slightly tighter. You can usually hear the additional noise when it clamps down a little harder.

Yeah, during this pandemic. Didn’t even get anyone to show me the features. So had to learn a few things on the fly. Lol. But thanks for this vid.

Tesla is the best idea from a chimp ever 👍👍 An electric car will be responsible throughout its life for CO2 emission: from manufacture, supply and use, to recycling of the parts. Manufacturing batteries involves the use of a great deal of energy and often creates a lot of pollution.

I did a tesla test drive and I thought I was going crazy trying to use the turn signal. I'm glad to realize im not the only one. Now to wait another month for them to announce the Y, so I can finally put in my pre-order!

Putting the Model 3 into park seems to hold the car just fine even on steep hills for me. Why/when would I need to use the parking break feature by holding the button down longer?
@44kas886 жыл бұрын
One of the Reasons would be exercise the actual unit on the rear calipers. If it doesnt get used, it will eventually freeze and fail. Use it, I'm gunna start to...!!

Btw for the parking brake, pressing it and putting it into park automatically enables the parking brake. Holding it down is not recommended as that put it into the emergency parking brake mode, where it uses an electric servo to put it into park instead. This should not be used regularly and is only really used during maintenance.

interesting, then P should be enough? I don't want to wake up next day thinking that the car is in some else's house

I didn't know about the parking brake but I know that the same button is also the E-Brake while on the move (as long as you hold it in, e-brake stops when released). You don't have to hold the brake pedal to put the car in neutral, just the 2 sec hold. I've read somewhere that coasting in neutral down a hill is actually more efficient than regen, but be careful as you'll probably gain more speed than the posted limit. Then you can select Drive with the stock to resume powered propulsion.

Neutral Push the lever up or down to the first position and hold it there for more than 1 second to shift into Neutral. Neutral allows Model 3 to roll freely when you are not pressing the brake pedal. If Model 3 is in Park and you use the touchscreen to release the parking brake (Controls > Safety & Security), Model 3 shifts into Neutral (see Parking Brake on page 55). Model 3 automatically shifts into Park when you exit. To leave Model 3 in Neutral, use the touchscreen to engage Transport Mode (see Instructions for Transporters on page 163).
