Great test! Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ⛄️❄️ Did a 400-mile round trip from Vancouver WA to Edmonds WA for a Christmas Eve family get-together on v13.2.2. Only 1 disengagement, and that was just before getting home, turning into my neighborhood! It is so amazing with city lane merges and roundabouts, hundreds of miles of I5 including 80mph driving and stop and go driving (in Seattle), then neighborhood driving and errands around Edmonds. The disengagement was because the turn into my neighborhood is from a suicide lane where you can turn in both directions. This instead of a dedicated turn lane, and it, for some reason, won't get into the suicide lane to make the turn. Silly error by FSD. Also rained on the drive home heavily 3 times, and fsd never gave up. It reduced its top available speed during the heavy rains and moved over to the slowest lane, but was able to at least stay at the speed limit. Sped back up again as the rain eased off to full hurry mode speed and performance!

It really doesn't seam to do well in bad weather, slushy snow lately where I live and the cameras are always complaining they are obstructed. There are 2 spots were I live that it has no clue what the speed limit is and just drops to 25 which is scary as hell when that happens and people are behind you. 4 way stop intersection also gives it some WTF do I do moments. The other one is sometimes at night when it goes under bridges it wants to drop out of FSD, no idea why. FSD is pretty damn good, but where I live it still has some learning.

I tried the trial last time and in one instance came to an odd intersection that only had a pair of red lights. When off, you just drive as if there was a green light. Red flashing is stop and full red is stop. When off, you proceed. The car came to the intersection when the lights were off and it just sat there. It was looking for a green light and couldn’t find one and did nothing for about 20 seconds until I just took over and went through. I can’t blame FSD for that but one of those rare instances. Even the first time I went through this intersection, I didn’t know actually what to do until I read the tiny sign beside the small pairs of red lights.

100% everytime I see a new Prius from far I think it's a model 3. Toyota did a copy paste. Love my Tesla model Y but it has HW3 and the FSD isn't great yet, doubt it ever will be, I also doubt Elons promise that they will upgrade HW3 to HW4. I'm Tesla for life, will only buy Teslas from now on.
@lanzer222 сағат бұрын
Yeah the cameras in HW3 isn't that great at night, and I do worry about V13's performance on the older hardware. I think they'll get it running, it'll be safe enough, likely better than a regular driver, but we will all be wishing that we're running HW4 where it's more responsive and even safer. If they need to, upgrading all HW3 CPU's will cost a billion dollars, but Tesla has many billions, and many of that can be earned back from FSD subscriptions so I think upgrade is a viable path.

If you pay the $8K for FSD when it's still $8K, you won't have to pay $20K once it's autonomous. It's rather short-sighted to think you can always add it for only $8K.
@ProXcaliber7 сағат бұрын
That's what they said when it originally cost 15k (the price will only go up) and look at it now, only costing 8k. They should definitely allow at least a 1 time transfer for free, and subsequent transfers can maybe be a slight fee to transfer after first transfer. After all, you are basically only paying for a license to use it, the hardware is already there.
@ZipZoomZip7 сағат бұрын
@@ProXcaliber Tesla adjusts the price of FSD to whatever they think the market will bear. They have so much new compute power online now that FSD is improving at an exponential rate again. This means the price will likely rise as it continually becomes increasingly useful. If you buy at $8K, you will be locked in for the life of the vehicle.
@ProXcaliber7 сағат бұрын
@@ZipZoomZip That is extremely unlikely, especially with their eventual plan of licensing FSD to other brands and carmakers. FSD will likely continue to fall in price, especially if they license it, because it will then become an incentive to buy a Tesla over another brand's if it means FSD is less expensive when you have a Tesla. The only way it will likely go up in price is if they split it again into 2 different versions. A supervised version like we have now, and an unsupervised version like what is going to be released in the future.
@ZipZoomZip50 минут бұрын
@@ProXcaliber Your scenario of falling pricing for FSD as it becomes autonomous implies a basic misunderstanding of pricing theory. But plenty of serious analysts have studied this extensively, from a wide variety of different approaches. All have come up with something that explodes in value once it doesn't need to be supervised. The price of FSD, since it is paid up in full when added to the purchase of a car, will climb as people realize it will become driverless. Those who buy soon enough will, in hindsight, have gotten a screamingly good deal. Up until now there has been significant doubt, by a significant number of people. That is changing as more people are exposed to the latest versions. It is becoming so human-like that it doesn't take much visionary prowess to see where this is going.
@ProXcaliber29 минут бұрын
@@ZipZoomZip Did I not say about it splitting into 2 different versions? Supervised and unsupervised… Or am I the only one that can see that? Like I said, Tesla plans on licensing the software in the future. This means that other carmakers will be offering the same feature in their vehicles as Tesla. Now, how will Tesla retain its customer base if one of the major features it is known for and unique for is no longer unique or only on Tesla vehicles? That’s right, keeping the price the same or lowering it further. Believe it or not v13 is only less than 15% of the Tesla fleet because hw4 is still new. And the majority of cars on the road are hw3. Even when v12 was the main version and was on a ton of vehicles, the amount of people actually subscribed and purchased FSD was still way under 30% of vehicles. People just do not see the value in purchasing a piece of software that they can only use on one vehicle. If the car is in an accident (whether you are at fault or not) FSD is gone, if the car has a malfunction or defect and needs to be replaced FSD is gone, etc. etc. There is zero chance that Tesla raises the price on supervised FSD, and a slight chance that they release an unsupervised version at a slightly higher price than current FSD.

VERY impressive technology, but this review has the same problem as when reviewing AI: the tester is cooperating with the technology and giving it good points for doing its job in normal conditions. Most tragic FSD tragedies have happenned under weird conditions: Teslas not identifying at all a sideways truck and slamming into it, or poor lighting conditions. The tester and the technology should be opposed: I don't care if the car can turn around in an empty car park, that has no value to almost anyone. The thing is: can you trust the car to do the right thing when things get in the gray areas and trully complicated? Humans will slow down if they see something they don't recognize, for example. And of course since they are pretty good at recognizing familiar stuff, they are not slowing down all of the time (Ver12?). So, happy testing in good roads with good visibility, while it looks great and really sells the tech, doesn't provide proof that the system is ready to "make manual driving a thing of the past". Most people who have had bad accidents while on FSD is because they grew comfortable with the thing, and let it do the thing while not paying attention any more, at all. But just like with GPS and maps: it works great until it sends you into a broken bridge or through dangerous neighborhoods... even after decades of having this technology, we still have to supervise the results or plans it makes, and treat that as suggestions and not as "the truth". The problem with driving technologies is that unlike maps, driving is a real-time, continous process. Supervising is not just looking at static results and fixing them before execution, but an ongoing process where you have to constantly pay attention to what is happenning: comparing the car's decisions to what you would do instead. And in that note, I wonder what will happen with young drivers who get this technology from day one, and really don't have the experience to identify and correct gross mistakes made by the FSD...

@@ProXcaliber It does indeed instill confidence. Since the real use case for FSD is being able to not supervise and actually do something else while the car takes you to your destination, we'll have to see how it does in the next few years. I just traded my ‘24 Prius for the 2025 M3. The only part of the trade that was a downgrade was in the looks department. I thought it was hilarious how many people came over to talk to me about the Prius and how good looking it was 😂! Not one comment about my new Tesla though

Yeah, I think the new Prius looks pretty good compared to what they used to look like. But the 2025 Model 3 is really sweet. Solid trade.

@ I don’t regret the trade in the least. Really looking forward to my first road trip in it in January. Will be going from Ohio to Phoenix for a friends retirement party and back.
