One thing no one seemed to notice was the surviving destroyer at the end of WW2 was the Yukikaze. Noda, the planner/scientist, was aboard towards the end. This ship had survived despite escorting Musashi, Shinano and Yamato in their campaigns. All sunk by the US navy but the Yukikaze always returning to port unscathed. This ship and Koichi seemed to mirror each other in that Koichi had managed to survive.

If they make a sequel (which they most definitely need to do) I think that they need to have Godzilla regenerating and coming back even bigger and more powerful because he realized he was somewhat easily defeated and wants to make sure that can't happen again, in addition to hating humans even more and specifically seeking to hurt and kill them
@charlesbeck551110 ай бұрын
They need to be careful with the sequel. One of the Dangerville videos referenced the Godzilla cells being highly invasive as well as their high regenative abilities What's going to happen with Nikko and the shadow on her neck? Is she infected with Godzilla cells? Is she going to mutate into a minion or a monster? Another possibility is the other monsters emerge because they have become infected with G cells and mutate into giant monsters. It feels like this could be the beginning of Planet Godzilla.

As a mutated behemoth. Maybe even mutated from the same nuke explosion that mutated Zilla. SPOILER WARNING! I think the title ''Minus One'' is explained in the ending. It means that Godzilla lost its first war against humans, putting the score to -1 against Godzilla. I expect that in the sequel, Godzilla seeks revenge for the events in the previous movie and will bring more destruction towards humanity. I myself hope that in the sequel there won't be another monster (except another Godzilla). I like to see how powerful Godzilla can be on its own and humanity stands alone against this monster. Godzilla in Minus One was very dangerous with his atomic bomb blast, but to be honest, I like to see more scenes of Godzilla destroying cities. I hope we will see that more in the sequel. At least I'm happy that Godzilla actually survived in the movie. This monster is too powerful to be killed in a single movie. I always wanted a Godzilla movie in which humans for a great part lose to Godzilla.
@TYSniper10 ай бұрын
Godzilla coming back more powerful in a sequel would be cool. Definitely opens up different possibilities of how they would go about defeating him. Will they consider throwing him into a volcano like in 84', or will some scientist create the oxygen destroyer or something similar? They will probably try to design a weapon for him to eat so they can blow him up from the inside. Noriko has one eye covered, perhaps she will become the next Serizawa and want revenge!

It is not about keeping any score. It refers to the fact that after Japan had already lost the conventional war against the US, they were at zero. Then came the destruction and devastation of Godzilla, like a mythical punishment, and they were less than zero, or minus one. It's kind of a poor translation of a very intense Japanese philosophy. PS; Godzilla represents the A-bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, so the Japanese, as a people, actually experienced this kind of very deep loss and feelings of punishment.

The regeneration ability is a nice new twist to explain the invulnerability of Godzilla but now instead of bullets bombs and missiles being unable to leave even a a scratch they can damage him but in truth it's only going to slow him down and more likely than not just happen to piss him off. Very good breakdown of the ending and the larger messages that are subtly cast in this movie. I think there are a few others that are important like the relationship between the four men on the mine sweeper and how they represent the different views the citizens of Japan now hold for their government. But more importantly, and very much understated until the end is the family melodrama that exists between Koichi the pilot, Norika the war survivor, Sumika, who has lost her children and Akiko the small child in their care, who is in danger of being orphaned twice during the time of her young life. They come together, all are orphaned or have lost children and form a family unit, even though they are angry in the beginning, even at each other. They care for baby Akiko, who is the future. Without their unity that grows into true caring, Akiko and the future would perish. The men from the mine sweeper along with the former naval sailors and the mechanic, Tachibana all must unite after having been betrayed and let down by their government and each other to overcome Godzilla. So to me the message of Godzilla Minus One (and the minus one is so important to understand) is putting aside grief, horror and disappointment , to move ahead with unity and thereby attain redemption.

I absolutely love Minus One. The thing that cracked me up a few times was the ambiguous water depth. I mean....how often was Godzilla standing in the very same water that was like thousands of feet deep? Anyway....no big deal.
@jeremyclapper776110 ай бұрын
One of the older Godzilla movies explains this by showing Godzilla under the water and above at same time, his tail is swinging causing him to tread water and stay partially above.

I love the soundtrack that they kept the original 1954 theme song. Imagine Toho redoing the monster verse with toho music. Plus the black and white re release is a homage to the 1954 film.

Biollante. The woman was possibly the only survivor to be in such close proximity to the mutated version of Godzilla (train scene). The darkened coloration on her neck could be the start of her mutation. Originally Biollante was created because a woman had Godzilla cells spliced into her.

I can see a sequel where Godzilla actually fights Zilla, which would be of the same species, but actually experiences radioactive exposure that's different than how Godzilla experienced. I'd say it was due to gradual exposure from a nuclear power plant. Zilla doesn't have the same abilities as Godzilla, but is more nimble and animalistic despite showing intelligence. Godzilla is still holding a grudge against humanity, but Zilla challenges Godzilla, seeing him as a rival. Basically want to see a movie that shows a potential way for Zilla to be serious for the whole movie. That kaiju has been ridiculed enough that we should start seeing what analogy it can be. Zilla would be a perfect representation of a nuclear power plant failing and the effects of nuclear fallout over a long period of time.

My thinking, the sequel would be the original, but since Godzilla can heal itself quickly, this is highly unlikely

I personally think that Godzilla Minus One is a prequel to the 1954 Godzilla instead of making a sequel

I hope you know, the regeneration Godzilla does in Minus One is not new. Heisei, G2000, Shin, Goji Earth and Ultima all have the same type of regeneration. Heisei’s might be the most powerful as his later appearance are stronger than before. Even in comics and manga he has demonstrated instantaneous regeneration.
@brandenmarcum43010 ай бұрын
Heisei has insane levels of regeneration, rivals even the Hulk. The Hulk is as durable as an ordinary human. He just seems indestructible because he heals so fast. Heisei not only has incredibly durable armor and hide, but incredibly fast regeneration. I think only Godzilla Earth beats Heisei’s regeneration.

I'll tell you what i'd like to see. Is Toho take this Gojira from this film. And start the franchise all over again. Using the graphics and other technology we possess today. Introduce other Kaiju for him to face but explain how they came to be much deeper. Some working with Godzilla and others against him. But always keeping him the main character bad. None of the silly nonsense we got with movies like "Son of Godzilla" etc...They could also go into forming a defense system creating and using Mecha-Gojira. I would love to see that happen in the future. Or something very close to that. The reality is it's entirely possible it's up to Toho. But i think based off the MASSIVE success this film had. It would be foolish of them not to capitalize off of this film for future releases. The revenue would be excellent for there nation especially post Covid.

My main hope for a sequel if there is one is that they don't go the route a lot of people are speculating about and have Noriko be the recipient of some strange mutation and bond to Gojira. This Godzilla film was a return to the monster's roots in the nuclear bomb, to the point of its breath causing a mushroom cloud and black rain. When the nuclear metaphor is that complete, I think the secondary radiation effects should tend to the realistic - in this case for Noriko to have radiation poisoning, but for whatever length of life she has left to be treated as worth living anyway.

I would love to see Godzilla come to the United States, and make landfall of the coast of Washington State, instead of California. Have him battle a new creature, and then have Angilas awaken some where in Canada, by some form of strange energy, causing chaos in the country or cities. Have Godzilla and Angilas meet for a showdown as ancient enemies.

As much as I absolutely love this iteration of Godzilla, I don't feel it needs a sequel. A sequel often can take away from the emotion and power of the original.

Plan to watch the movie despite the fact that I like seeing Godzilla as the good guy saving mankind from other monsters that we cant defeat ourselves..I remember going as a Kid to the theater to watch Godzilla films..Have watched all the newer Godzilla films also They were very good and well made... Looking forward to the Godzilla X Kong film...

I keep saying it, it won't get a sequel. Every time Godzilla was rebooted it leaves a hint for a sequel. And instead of actually delivering a sequel, they announce anothet reboot. They've been doing this since 1999. Wake up People! Toho gives zero fucks about continuity. There will be no sequel to this no matter how well recieved it is!

A good sequel would be to reintroduce Biolantte, a sequel plot some years in the future where we see their daughter grow up to be scientist studying or a new scientist that studies Godzilla cells and splicing with plants to promote rapid development of agriculture due to the devastation from the war or environment. Them not knowing Godzilla is still out there but unleash biolantte the plant Godzilla basically then they both duke it out. It would be interesting and a nice way to reintroduce an old unused monster.

I don't believe there will be a sequel even though I would really want one. Minus One makes a perfect prequel to the original 1954 movie given that there was many instances where they talk about the government denying/ hiding the truth from the people. Also given how the mechanics, on odo island, only heard stories of Godzilla/ Godzillasaurus from the people on the island and not actually have seen, and probably not believing it, its plausible the rest of Japan would go on not believing or knowing such creature existed making the events of 1954 a new experience to them. Though if they decided to do a remake of the Original 1954 movie, that would be amazing.

I wouldn’t mind a sequel! According to “Godzilla the ride”, he already has designs for Rodan and King Ghidorah. But those can wait. It’s high time we stop throwing energy towards the MonsterVerse to bring back monsters that this company could’ve brought back at anytime. I vote for GMK’s original form, Anguirus and Varan for the sequel! Baragon too, if possible.

This movie was amazing. I hope they keep it going. The effects were great, the story was good, the characters were well written and interesting, the acting was good, the design and all the movement and attacks from Godzilla were super cool. The music for the first half or so of the movie was lacking IMO. The ending regarding the characters wasn't the best but it didn't take anything away really IMO. SPOILER QUESTION BELOW I don't get why the little girl wasn't excited to see that her "mom" was still alive at the end though? She just sat there staring off into space like she was bored. She would have been freaking out. They got her to cry on command so it's not like she was too young to be able to act excited for a second.

I finally got to watch the movie yesterday (Thursday 12/14/23), while watching the movie I did doze off a couple of times, and that's only because the seats at the theater I went to have reclining seats like a Lazy Boy Recliner, well anywho, the movie was awesome, teared up a bit during the heartfelt scenes and that ending, it could possibly lead to a sequel or not, because the end reminded of the ending of "Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack" which a sequel was never produced.

Saw the film yesterday and loved it. A truly fantastic film, not just a great Godzilla movie, a great movie period. What made it great was the human element which, sadly, is usually what's missing from Godzilla movies. A good human story that is well acted is what has given this film a boost. The decision to not dub it and go with subtitles has been essential to it's success. Poor overdubbing with god awful voices cheapens the movies and makes them feel like cartoons. This can keep people away. Going with subtitles allows the emotional content the actors are putting forward to really come out and not get squashed by some silly sounding out of place voice. This to me adds value and merit to the film and doesn't then just make it seem like something for kids or science fiction fans. Anyone with heart and desire to see a good movie would enjoy it. For the next film, honestly, I don't think they should bring in another monster. The Legendary monsterverse has plenty of this. If Toho goes multiple monsters, then it just feels like more of the same. I liked Godzilla just being a force of nature and that being what drives the human reactions and creates the drama. Monsters fighting each other has been done about 30+ times over the years Godzilla movies have existed. They need to keep focusing on the human element and original story telling. One thing I would like to see in a second film is perhaps more of a military presence. It's nice and all that the civilians came together to defeat him in Minus One, and I understand the message that people coming together can create hope and accomplish great things. But now that this has been done, I'd love to see an all out military engagement against him. Perhaps wrestling with the decision to use a nuclear device to kill him would be interesting, given the devastation of Nagasaki and Hiroshima from such a weapon. I would think this is a decision that would be very difficult for the Japanese people of that era (or any era really) to make and I could certainly see some great drama around this. Then there is the question, since a nuclear bomb effectively created Godzilla, would a nuclear bomb kill him or yet further mutate him and make him stronger? Anyway, that's my two cents. Everyone has their own desires for a second film. What ever Toho does, I hope they put good writers, directors, and actors on it and keep it well rooted.

I know Toho already gave an explanation, but I think the title has a double meaning. I like to believe this is called Minus One because it canonically takes place before the first Godzilla. I mean the timeframe matches up, with this movie taking place in 1947 and the original being 7 years later in 1954. And his roar is exactly the same. His origin is 100% the same between both and both take place on Odo Island. In the 1954 his existence was already known and was called Godzilla by the locals. Obviously a few discrepancies here or there.
