I honestly am not happy about this. The fact that MV Goji Is part of a species was actually really interesting and original. In my mind, Legendary Godzilla will always be part of an ancient species

like we understand godzilla must be the best of all time, truly we understand, but you can still have it that godzilla is the best member of his species and there are still OTHER MEMBERS. Like. This is such a stupid arbitrary move.

Wouldn’t a good way to make Godzilla unique from the rest of his species while still maintaining his status as a member of a species be for him to keep his pink/evolved form? Maybe the next Godzilla movie can have Monarch scientists discussing Godzilla’s new form and say that he’s no longer a normal Titanus Gojira anymore (because he absorbed some of Tiamat’s DNA to achieve that form).

I guess I am in the minority here but I fully support Toho on this one. Hollywood is destroying every IP it's acquiring. Hollywood has this obsession with killing off characters or making masculine things become feminine. Knowing Hollywood, they'd probably make gay Godzillas or kill Godzilla to elicit an emotional reaction as they always do with legacy characters, while pushing a new, less popular one

Well, even though Godzilla is the last of his kind (since Dagon & his species are canon but not shown in official CGI appearance, yet), I hope we'll see more of Godzilla's species in a MV prequel movie. And hopefully in the next MV GxK 3rd movie (2027) we'll see Godzilla find a baby (which will better be Minizilla/Gojira Junior) & maybe some of his kind survived. If Toho will not announce a new rule that "Godzilla will an individual", right👍😉🦖🌌

They could have just made a softer recton out of it like... Godzilla is an ascended individual of a pre-existing species, hence his extraordinary feats and central role in Monsterverse, a dragon who rose into power from his lizard brethrens. GxK made it easier with him being the very "Titan who ate a Star".

They aren’t retconning anything from what I can understand, it seems like Toho just wants them to stop talking about the Gojira species going forward. However, this does mean we’re missing the opportunity to see multiple gojiras in the next film as a flashback sequence. I personally would’ve loved to see 5 or 6 other gojiras helping a younger Godzilla fight off Ghidorah when the golden boy first attempted to attack the planet

I understand Godzilla not having a Species as i guess they Fear is Impact wud be lessen somehow... cos then why not have a lounge of Godzilla would be abit extreme. Also Reptiles arent know for having tight Social dynamics from my understanding. I'm actually quite glad they've decided to stop making Godzilla-like movies such as 'Dinosaurs in the City.' I enjoyed Fallen Kingdom, but the ending of that film, along with Jurassic World Dominion, was a bit too much for me personally. Beyond that, I really wish they would stop humanizing the dinosaurs. I might completely disagree with many fans of the franchise, but I find the whole 'friendly dinosaurs' angle really off-topic... I would even say awkward. Not that I'm against giving them certain traits that define their 'personality,' but... The type of relationship we see between Owen and Blue or even the Raptors and the T-Rex-it just feels sooooooooooooooo off ! Giving them names like 'Rexy,' for instance, seems a bit childish. Dinosaurs aren't mindless killing machines, I agree. They're animals with a degree of consciousness. But when I see how the T-Rex and the Velociraptors were portrayed in the last movies... Sorry but it seems that we're far removed from the apex predators we saw in the original Jurassic Park trilogy in my opinion.. It just feels like they completely removed the horrific part of what makes jurassic park movies.. Jurassic park.

And the other members of his species could look a bit different too, explained them not having his mutation, or being in an alpha form. Very unnecessary. I'm very disappointed to see you spreading this misinformation, as it's already been debunked for awhile. The head of Toho's "Godzilla Room" (basically the franchise bible), Tetsuya Yoshikawa, clarified in an interview back in June that modern Godzilla films only have three hard and fast rules: 1. Godzilla cannot be shown eating people. 2. Godzilla cannot permanently die. 3. Godzilla cannot talk (unless it is Chibi Godzilla). Additionally, Legendary is **not** contractually obligated to follow these rules. And while Toho did ask for Godzilla to stop being referred to as a species, Greg Keyes did state that Godzilla still has a relationship to the other similar individuals. Dagon and the axe have not been retconned. My read on this is that Toho wants Godzilla's status as a unique individual to be emphasized so that there is no possibility of a legally distinct character being created that can threaten the trademark. This is supported by background materials which indicate that while all Titans are members of larger species, not all members of those species are Titans. For example, Kong is a Titan, but most of the other apes are not. So it could be the case that Godzilla and Dagon are still the same species, but Dagon was a "normal" member of that species while Godzilla is a much more unique specimen.

my personal head canon that also works within Toho's rules. Godzilla is a break away from his base species. He swallowed the star. He developed the ability to project radiation and grow. I feel like the ancestors to Godzilla were all walking nukes. no way to properly shape or mold the radiation. That still allows the MUTO's to exist as a species that had a parasitic relationship to them. This also gives rise to a reason for the war. You cant have a species of walking atom bombs just wasting large swaths of land at every inconvenience. In order to create balance they needed to be culled. Godzilla then arose from that conflict as a greater entity that then eliminated BOTH sides. "The Star" perhaps referring to a food source. Some object that allowed the base specifies to grow and thrive. Godzilla then consumed this and integrated it becoming something more. Strong enough to end the conflict but having consumed the primary food of his brethren they died off leaving just him and Dagon until finally Dagon succumbed to an adapted species (MUTO) that was able to fell him. The thing that rubs me wrong is they say of it cant be a species but since some of the earliest godzilla movies hes had a son or his cells becoming other versions of himself like biolante and space godzilla its implied he has a species that varies throughout the movies so toho completley disregarding that is ridiculous to me.

I think the Godzilla species is still 100% canon. He might said, that Toho said "Stop this"... but what does Toho actuelly means with that? Maybe its just about other members of his species should not be shown or talked about in the movies and their novels anymore so Godzilla can stay more unique. I just cant see this as an retcon. Might be just to make sure that Godzilla as an character does not go too crazy or just way too everpowered when he has like an full army of species members in a potential prequel movie.
