The thing that drives me crazy about this show is, one moment they show something in a way that really makes what happened come alive in a fresh way, but then they spend an inordinate amount of time setting up a reveal of a fictional bridle (Scripture doesn't mention any such thing), while missing the HUGE reveal that the Holy Spirit placed within Scripture, with Mary and the alabaster box. They showed her pouring out the spikenard, but that COMPLETELY misses the entire point of what she actually did, and it ruins a "type" of Messiah that the Holy Spirit hid within the details for us to find. The box was Mary's representation of Jesus' body, BROKEN for us, which is why Mary BROKE the box. In breaking the box all the oil came out in a way she could not control, and the odor of the oil changed EVERYTHING in that room. It is similar to when Gideon's army surrounded the Midianites with jars of clay, which had a burning torch inside, in one arm, and a shofar in the other, and then they BROKE the jars allowing the light to shine in the darkness. The story of Gideon's army and the story of Mary's alabaster box are the same story, because they are both representative "types", of the Messiah that the Holy Spirit had intentionally placed within Scripture, which are pointing to Jesus death on the cross for us. That is proven by the fact that Jesus said that what Mary did was anointing His body for burial...which of course means obviously that she KNEW Jesus had to be and was about to be killed, she understood His body had to be broken for us, and her way of showing Jesus that she understood what He had to do, was breaking her box, filled with precious oil, while weeping and washing his feet with her hair, which according to scriptures, is the glory of a woman. I could preach many sermons on what she did, in fact Jesus COMMANDED US that wherever the Gospel is preached, we also speak of what she did, but the whole message is wrecked by them failing to show her BREAKING the box. It's extremely important! I'm not trying to be hyperbolic, but Moses was kept out of the promised land for ruining what the Lord intended to be a "type" of Christ, when he, in his anger, struck the rock (Christ is the Rock), when he was supposed to speak to it, because it had already been struck once. It's a pretty big deal to incorrectly represent a type of Christ. I'm not making any judgements here, we are all imperfect humans, who get things wrong, and I really do love many, in fact most of the things the Chosen has done, even when they take artistic license usually it's a reasonable choice, but not having Mary break the box was a very, VERY big faux pas. Still I celebrate what the show has done right, and the people that the show has brought to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and I am thankful the show exists...I just wish they were a bit more careful sometimes in their handling of Scripture. Every detail in Scripture is there by the design of the Holy Spirit! Every single detail! And every single detail holds immeasurable importance.

Loved reading what you wrote. I believe she did break the vessel in the show though,that is why Martha gasped. To get a little out you would use the hole at the top as the vendor demonstrated. Mary broke the sealed top right off exposing the entire contents to air. It might look different than what you were picturing but I don't think it contradicts your teaching. Very good insight.

Agree 100% though I do see the fictional bridle as an acknowledgement in the story that this item passed down from King David showed Jesus' kingly lineage back to King David, hand to hand down through his adopted father Joseph. There is also his DNA lineage from his mother Mary back to King David through David's son Nathan (King Solomons brother). But Jesus will ride into Jerusalem on a donkey as a King. So I understand the bridle to be an unspoken story telling device.
@fargomonkey5133
@fargomonkey5133 3 ай бұрын
@@musclechic2001I agree with that. I like the emphasis on the fact that Jesus was of the line of David, and using the fictional bridle was a fine way to show it... It's just not scriptural is my problem with it, that and the fact that, there are SO MANY details within Scripture that they could have used instead to show Jesus' lineage as coming from the root of Jesse, from the tribe of Judah. Scripture is full of really cool things that could have been used to show Jesus is "THE BRANCH". A device didn't have to be invented to show His lineage, but as far as invented devices go, the bridle was kind of a cool way to honor Jesus adopted father Joseph. I get what they were doing, it was artistic license, I just think that wherever you deviate from Scripture, you run the risk of adding to, or taking away from it, and that's just not something I would dare do myself, it's just not a risk I would feel comfortable taking.

The Bridle... Is a symbol of being SUBMITTED to the Bridegroom..The Father God. The donkey is NEW....the donkey symbolizes the world The world is made NEW by Jesus's Heroic Obediance The World (Donkey) is is bridled.. Made a bride....to Christ. Which means FULLY SUBMITTed TO CHRIST HIMSELF... Not submitting to your church or pastor or family.. Fully submitted to Christ...!! Meaning your steps are not your own...!! You are willingly bridled...!! David...rode into his rulership...with that bridle He was Kinged bevause David was radically submitted to the will of God..his faith was Giant killing faith.. Jesus ...rode...toward Jerusalem where he would become King...in radical obediance to the Father... His hands leading the world as a bride...on the bridle Like a wise Virgin...Jesus set himself apart for God.. And Jesus kept his lamp lit and full if oil.. Meaning he could go by himself to a dark place and bring the Light. Also that...to obey God as a full bride.. You will need to walk into the dark...seeking his will..seeking the Bridegroom . Jesus needed moxy (holy oil)...to be such a Hero..and to walk bravely into the dark...knowing that the light was with him...and only God matters. Jesus Christ...Hero Supreme...Messiah of Love. Every Knee Shall Bow! 👑 👑👑 Modern world view on relationships...is not.. The Bride-Groom relationship...we are talking Old World..absolute submission...to God. Kingdom Spouse relationships are hot topic for many Chosen...those who answer the call. As in the days of Noah..many called..but few are chosen...to pair up to populate the New Earth and the new Heavens. Noah=Noach=Rest Be Still and Know that I am God... In the Stillness is Rest.. In the Air.. The Ruach Ha Kodesh... Meet the Lord in the Air In the Stillness.. Jesus said ,..many will say Lord Lord!! BUT HE WILL NOT KNOW THEM!! Will Jesus know you???? Will Jesus know you??? Do you meet him in the Stillness? If you do not meet him in the air..the stillness..the Ruach.. How will you ascend? How will you hear his knock? He is knocking now! Will you be Still? Will you SUBMIT TO HIM!! WILL YOU PUT HIM FIRST? Will you become bridled to his perfect will? Or will you keep missing the most important part about drawing breath?

Did not understand why Pilate is depicted as finding the sacrifice of Passover Lamb an unsettling and distasteful action. In Greco-Roman religion and culture, blood sacrifice to there gods was an extremely common practice, occurring more often than Jewish culture, so why does Pilate act like it’s a new bizarre idea to him? It is interesting how very common animal sacrifice was in ancient times, ancient religion was a bloody mess, not only in the Middle East, but blood sacrifice was common in Europe and Africa, in Asia, in North and South America… sonetimes extending to mass human sacrifice. Did they understand something we moderns do not?

That was a great exposition about the bridle and the continuation of the lineage of David... the true son of David who will sit on the t hrone foriever. It's interesting that Solomon's great wisdom was not as effective at keeping Israel faithful to God as his father, imperfect as he was, having passion and love for God and not just knowledge about him. David made big mistakes and did some big sins, but he had a real relationshiop with God and repented for real when his sins and mistakes were shown to him. Solomon didn't seem to have that. I did know that the story with Mary and the alabastar jar was not precisely the scripture version and I imay have changed that, but it wasn't a big enough diversion for me to be upset about it. what they did get right in that regard was Mary realizing who Jesus is and going all in to show her worship and love for him regardless of the humiliation, and Jesus being moved by it. I thought that part was so well done, and in the scriptures, I thought it occurred at Simon the Pharisee's house, not Lazarus' house, but again, it's not a big enough detail to make me upset. I just took note of it.

For non-Christian's benefit it would be helpful to include disclaimers. I guess that Dallas guy explains the discrepancies sometimes but some people might not want to listen to him talk on and on. It matters if things are Biblically accurate or not. It's hard enough knowing that Dallas's dad wrote those fairy tale books about the rapture etc which are offensive to orthodox believers. If they're creating pure fiction for entertainment then it should be more clear imo.

Protestants rejected anything other than the Hebrew books. If you recall since villages were Torah only, some Torah + prophets. There was big disagreement among the Israeli populations about what was legit and what wasn’t. The greek hebrews used a septuagint version which was more accepted in European Jews. Protestants call you a heretic if you use it at all. Well, uninformed ones do.

Not that it's a major issue within the Gospel but I would like to point out that the Mishnah Bava Batra 5:3 points out that it WAS Jewish law/tradition for a mother donkey to be sold along with its young. They were seen as a cohesive unit. I think Zechariah and the account in Matthew are correct in saying two donkeys.

@@bayareabeardco I agree. Matthew 22:2 clearly says that the disciples would find a donkey and her foal, and for them to untie THEM and bring THEM to Jesus. When you put the three different descriptions found in the gospels together, it becomes clear that both animals were being used, Jesus rode the foal which had never been ridden before, while the other was likely being used for clothing and such. You're right.

Okay, this bridle business? I recognize that Chosen is a TV series. The Bridle is a great plot device. However. Even taking good care in maintaining the bridle we are shown, over a 1000 year period, storing it in the wooden box - I do not think so. Papyrus, sored in clay jars in the Dead Sea caves, steady conditions, or that amazing basket the found is very different than leather. I had to snicker at the obviously latter day large snaffle bit. Because I am a horsewoman, and I have seen very old well-kept tack, I have seen how easily leather will dry out and become brittle, even with careful maintenance. That's my squick. OTH, God can do anything. After all, He protected the Shroud of Turin!

Matthew and John and Luke, Mark, have different versions of the same story I am thinking, but time and verbal history changes a bit. I don't think 2 women did the same thing, it would seem odd and take away from each other. MARK While Jesus[a] was in Bethany sitting at the table in the home of Simon the leper, a woman arrived inn alabaster jar of very expensive perfume made from pure nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume on his head. 4 Irritated, some who were there asked one another, “Why was the perfume wasted like this? 5 This erfume could have been sold for more than 300 denarii[b] and the money[c] given to the destitute.” So they got extremely angry with her. JOHN Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived in Bethany, where Lazarus lived,[a] the man whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 There they gave a dinner for him. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at the table with him. 3 Mary took a litron[b] of very expensive perfume made of pure nard and anointed Jesus’ feet. She wiped his feet with her hair, and the house became filled with the fragrance of the perfume. MATTHEW Jesus Anointed at Bethany Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,1 7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. 8 And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9 For this could have been sold for a large sum and xgiven to the poor.” 10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. 12 In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.” LUKE 7:36-50 A Sinful Woman Forgiven 36 uOne of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. 37 vAnd behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, 38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wwiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If xthis man were ya prophet, he zwould have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.” 40 And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.” 41 “A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred adenarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.” 44 Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to gkiss my feet. 46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven-for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 And he said to her, j“Your sins are forgiven.” 49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among1 themselves, k“Who is this, who even forgives sins?” 50 And he said to the woman, l“Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

*_Painful to hear scripture being mangled, and Christ ignored!_* *_EVERY_* verse which *_might_* be interpreted to mean "Jesus is God," *_can also be interpreted to mean that he is NOT God._* In other words, the support for the deity of Christ is shaky, at best. I truly appreciate your teachings which reveal the depth of research and study which goes into each of your videos. But I must admit that, although I am a pastor who has been in ministry for nearly 50 years, I got a bit lost with your explanation. The introductory remarks seemed to imply that the bridle was traced back to Jesus’ ancestors, and only when I re-watched it did I pick up on the subtle wording that said it was tied to a “symbolic” connection to His ancestors. When the video ended, I was disappointed because there wasn’t more of a connective explanation, between the function of the bridle and the story. I won’t go so far as to use the term “click bait” in regard to this video, but it did feel as if you used the audience’s curiosity about the bridle’s significance, in order to get people to click on your video. And it seemed to be a bit of a stretch to connect its significance in that way, since the graphic on the video link, and your introductory remarks seemed to imply that you were explaining the purpose of the bridle being part of the Chosen. When in reality, none of us yet know how the future storyline may explain the true purpose for Dallas Jenkins placing it here, if it goes beyond this episode. The accuracy of your research is not in question at all. I’m just disappointed, since there seemed to be a bit of a “promise” to learn the meaning behind the bridle being part of the series. And in reality, as we know, it wasn’t mentioned in scripture. That’s why I was so curious. But thank you for all you do to teach God’s people. And for the record, I do not take exception with anything you taught in this video. Excellent teaching.

*_Jesus NEVER made himself co-equal with God._* NEVER! Only a Trinitarian would shoehorn into scripture such a scandalous interpretation. *_Jesus ALWAYS placed himself below God Almighty._* He could *_never_* do anything on his own authority, but only what the Father had shown him. Too many use *_Logical Fallacies_* to mangle scripture to fit 4th century dogma. Sorry if this hurts, but make yourself Humble before the Lord and quit adding poison to your interpretation. Stop conflating Jesus with God; they are NOT the same. *_"I and my Father are one,"_* said Jesus, but Trinitarians jump on this to proclaim that Jesus claimed to be God. *_But wait!_* Jesus claimed to be the *_FATHER?_* Read it again! This was NOT a proclamation of *_identity,_* BUT instead one of *_Harmony!_* 😎♥✝🇺🇸💯

I had hopes for S'hmuel but was shocked when he reacted the way he did. It would be good if you could make an episode regarding what God's kingdom will be like since so far I somewhat understand it to be where people will not have status. I recently watched a scene in Dark Mirror that captured the status reality of our world to t. I recall at school when a child the status like nature of it all where people were split into permament groups I observed where the smarter ones were amongst each other. It was depressing. God's Kingdom gives great hope.

All of the images and paintings that were displayed in churches today are of a guy by the name of Caesar ( or Cesare Borgia). In case you've never heard of this name before. Cesare Borgia was an Italian Mobster and Captain in the Papal Military during the 1500's. He was also the son of Pope Alexander VI, Rome. In an eeffort to keep black slaves oppressed so that could sustain their rulership in Rome, Pope Alexander VI hired Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo to paint all of the images of The Black Christ in Europe in the image of his son Cesare Borgia. Truth will set you free

I loved the bridle story and mentioning Joseph. I'm sure Jesus spoke of him to his mom often. The part I feel silly about is the lamb anointing of feet. I assumed" it was from the Bible or Torah. It isn't. There is nothing in Jewish History about that before the New Testament. The other lamb customs are accurate. On some Jewish scholarly websites and "Ask the Rabbi" webpage there were Christians and one Jewish guy asking the Rabbi where that was. From the Chosen or just people mentioning it?? He said it is a myth and not written anywhere and a tie in Christians use to make Jesus the lamb. That is not needed, he was to us, but the feet vs lambs feet wasn't true. I don't think that poetic license should be done without a disclaimer. I live in an Orthodox neighborhood and worked 3 years at a JCC. I felt a little silly believing that on face value but it's on me for not checking as others did online. It would have been a nice extra tie in to Jesus but let it be written somewhere first.

Your explanation of where the bridle comes from is made clear at the beginning of episode 8. As the TRUE Son of David, it would seem that Mother Mary would be pleased or happy regarding the history of the bridle - its legacy. But from the time Jesus returns to Nazareth (S3 E3), it's clear the bridle carries an ominous meaning. I wouldn't think that Mary would know the extent of his passion the week prior to his death for her to hold such dread at the thought of Jesus taking the bridle. There's got to be more meaning behind it that the chosen is going to weave into the story.

Brandon, you said the oil was "Nard". Historically, the name nard referred to essential oils derived from other species including the closely related valerian genus, as well as Spanish lavender; these cheaper, more common plants have been used in perfume-making, and sometimes to adulterate true spikenard.
