When Ramah wasn’t raised from the dead, I thought the writers were reinforcing for us believers that God doesn’t heal everyone. It is a mystery we don’t understand- why some are healed and others aren’t. God sees the whole picture; we don’t. It is incumbent upon us not to be offended but continue to believe God is good even when He doesn’t answer our prayers the way we want Him to.

Thank you so much for this video! I didn’t have questions about why Jesus didn’t raise Ramah, I had questions on why she was murdered in the first place, and this video has perfectly explained that. Thank you! Two things I’d like to say: 1. I’m not affiliated with the show, but from my understanding of the Lord and the Word, it made perfect sense that Jesus didn’t raise Ramah. I would’ve actually been shocked if He did, because it really was not yet time. Remember that the only person He’d raised at this point was Jairus’ daughter, and only very few people knew about it, and He strictly warned them not to tell anyone, not even the rest of His disciples. They all thought He’d gone to heal a sick girl, they didn’t know she had already died. This is because if it became known that He could raise the dead, more people would’ve believed He was truly God, and that would’ve caused such a stir among the Pharisees and His ministry would’ve been interrupted. Remember in John’s gospel, He raised Lazarus when He was wrapping up His earthly ministry. And after He raised him, His fame went off the charts, and that was when the Pharisees actually started plotting to kill Him. God is God-centered. His will is always priority over anything else. If Ramah was killed in private, it would’ve been different. But she was killed publicly. Jesus definitely hated to see Ramah die, but if He raised her, His ministry would’ve ended prematurely. 2. I’d like to give more insight to the story of the blind man, and why Jesus healed him the way He did. Back then, it was Jewish custom to spit on the ground when walking past a blind beggar. So, Jesus spitting on the ground, forming clay with the soil, and healing the man with it was His way of making a message out of His mess. He used what was used to mock him to heal him.

Did you know that this story of the blind man being healed brought a whole tribe of people to salvation. They understood in their culture when he did that, that he was truly their savior. I think it's cool that you know about the original context of what Jesus did, but also, I think as the scripture says that his ways are higher than our ways, and his thoughts are higher than our thoughts, that Jesus probably did things with many things in mind. Also, it is exciting that God can use things we may never see as important ourselves to change the lives of others through it. God Bless!

God told me a long time ago that "healing is in the spirit, not in the flesh. " Little did I know that would come to fruition for me 20 years in the future. In 2017 I was diagnosed with a rare cancer. The huge 3 pound GIST tumor had invaded my stomach walls and was killing me. It was causing internal bleeding and I nearly died several times. I prayed in earnest for God to heal me. To take the cancer from me. I quickly knew in my spirit that he would not. After my long surgery to remove the tumor, 2/3's of my stomach, my gallbladder, and rerouting of my intestines....I was much better..... but I have struggles with digestion and nutrition. It is okay. I am here. Jesus got me through all of it. He used his people to help me. I can't tell you everything he did for me in those moments, but he was right there. I prayed to get pregnant as we’d struggled for 10 years. My baby sister was pregnant. (In 2014) she was five months pregnant I found out that I was pregnant soon afterwards and prayed to keep the baby. But at 7 weeks I miscarried and chose to carry my dead baby for several months. I didn’t want the surgery or the medication. No medical intervention. I prayed the LORD would bring my baby back to me…and let my baby’s soul return to me. But he didn’t. He had even given me a dream before I got pregnant that “my time had come” but he did also show me a dark time. That’s why when I saw the positive pregnancy test I prayed to keep my baby. And for a while I thought he would . But he sent 3 people in my life to tell me I would never hold my baby. And he told me before I miscarried that he would take my child. And I begged him… I pleaded with him. He didn’t allow us to hold our baby. And I struggled for 4 years with this! I had to come to realize that the LORD is good. No matter what! In the good times and the worst of times. And loss is a theme in my life. It’s never easy. But I can’t stop giving him praise. Even when he takes away. I don’t know why he doesn’t always heal. Yes, God's ways are beyond ours. However, in my three decades on this earth, I have learned at least two reasonable explanations about why miscarriages happen. These may or may not be helpful right away, but maybe sometime later on, they will be helpful. First, I belive that God takes unborn babies to spare them from having to endure some terrible fate had the children lived, thus also sparing the surviving family members from suffering with them. Second, I believe that God wants allow the babies He takes before birth to grow up in a better, safer environment than what we all have here on this Earth for now. It'll be much easier for those babies to adjust to the ultimate culture shock that we older people will endure for a while when we go to Heaven to live for great while. I also believe that God's family is a lot bigger than we could ever imagine.

When Christ wont heal. I had an experience recently where I have been asking and asking and asking for God to heal me. He spoke to me in a deeply profound way that he would not heal me until I had learned what I needed to from my struggle. I repeat, God was not willing to heal me, could he? Yes he has all power. Our suffering serves a purpose, if faith isn't our problem something else might be. In the chosen there have been three instances where Jesus did not step in to heal, Little James Eden and Simon Ramah and Thomas. I hope you understand the reason God allows suffering even if we ask to have it removed. Ask and you will receive is a true principle, but the timing of when we are answered depends on when God in his omniscience knows we really need that healing.
@abbykittle50585 ай бұрын
But, for Little James, it wasn't for him to learn a lesson; Jesus didn't heal him to be a testimony to others that he's kept the faith even though he's going through a disability. Not everyone who has chronic illness or disability is an immature Christian. Sometimes, God doesn't heal for the sake of those around us, that they may see our faith through the trials. I myself have experienced a ton of health issues, and it's made me think I'm an awful Christian, and that's why I'm suffering. But, God doesn't just grow us through pain, He allows it to point others to Him as well.

Brandon, breaking down the Greek meaning of words and positions as well as the Hebrew is essential to understanding the scriptures. We read in English, and the way it was Originally written and then translated can lose powerful meaning. You are doing a great service to this. Now as far as the “poetic license “ in the Chosen , I do believe it is a dramatic way of making not only Jesus, but also the disciples real to us in 2024. Real people with real drama in our lives that we turn to God to cure, but not always trust enough so we take matters into our own hands. Sometimes God answers NO because it is NOT in his plan for us and what is in that plan is more important. We only see the little picture, and as Paul wrote to the Corinthians through pain comes growth, be joyful even when it hurts, knowing that Gods plan for you is Great.

I needed your comment. Thank you. THANK YOU! Ramah's death wasn't just the death of a person. It was a metaphor for answered prayer. "It wasn't her time", to be with Thomas or the time for Thomas to be with her. The sundial gift was so very much an analogy - very symbolic and figurative. For God had a much bigger plan for him. The Lord our Father answers ALL prayers. But sometimes the answers to those prayers are different than the answers we want. God knows best. We need to trust in Him more. Even though it may include some very painful situations.

Yes, I believe also that this was something that related to Thomas and his ministry as a disciple. Thomas was one who doubted the most and seemed to, at times, put Ramah as more cherished and important as Jesus. I could be totally wrong, but it almost feels like Jesus may have known that Thomas needed to learn and grow in his faith so he would be able to carry out his mission as a disciple. We often only reach out and grasp on to Jesus more during our most difficult times, especially when our plans don't work out, or tragedy strikes, leaving us lost and wondering what our purpose is, and how we can go on. I'm thankful that I can't see what's ahead, and know that if I will just draw close, let go of my own determination, ask for His guidance, and trust Him, that He will get me where I'm supposed to be.

Picking any direction AWAY from Quintus would have been the better and most logical choice, and then Thomas and Ramah could have met up with Jesus and the disciples at another location. Making a bee line to Jesus, while spiritually correct and praiseworthy, needed to be moderated with tactical sense. 🙄

Yeah, I thought they could have done that better. Maybe the crowd- since they’re all pushing and such accidentally shoves them into Quintus’ space and he reacts. Or everyone’s running around and Quintus draws his blade as they’re passing them lashes out. That would have made more sense.

“Jesus” in the episode also looked as if he lost self-control. Unaware of the cost coming with the scene he helped foment that ultimately led to his reservation in hearing one of his devoted disciples. It made “Jesus” look like he was unwilling to reconcile the situation, rather he rationalized his inaction with her eventual resurrection. Yet, “Jesus” did resurrect the little girl and will later resurrect Lazarus. Not sure this scene is consistent with the broader narrative. Plus, this internal Roman discord would probably not have happened. Instead, the crowd would have been controlled at spear point and formation. I say this episode was way outside of biblical and historical norms.

Dallas said Jon wasn't sure how to play that scene and I saw that. It just didn't flow well. It seemed off to me and I think that is why Thomas moved me on her body but I didn't cry as I did with Mary Magdeline, Matthew, Nicodemus, etc. It seemed contrived and I've seen at 65 way too many of these scenes. We know Jesus can't cure all but he did in the Bible over and over again.

The only direct reference to his marital status comes from a passage in Matthew 19:27-30 that is often interpreted as Thomas being unmarried. There is no other information available on whether Thomas had a wife or not. However, some sources suggest that Thomas was skeptical about having a wife due to his parents' unhappy marriage, and he grew up with a pessimistic disposition. Learn more:

Martyrdom, with the exception of John the Baptist, simply is not shown in the Gospels. This is a post-Pentecost theme. This death was out of place as was the demeanor of Jesus. The disciples seemed to be herding a shell-shocked Jesus, looking more like Biden handlers than Jesus' disciples.

I love your channel, very informative regarding biblical/historical topics. Thanks for that. Regarding The Chosen episode, while I understand your point...I fell it was unnecessary, the killing of Ramah was more for shock value than anything (alas G.O.T. or those shows where they make you like a character just to kill it next season). I think was a mistake for many reasons, first I really doubt Jesus would allow that to happen in his presence...second, why you'd kill one of the few women characters in the show (seems sexist to me and by the reaction of some unbelievers), she's loved by everyone...the story about her romance with Thomas has been building through the 3 seasons, for what?, we've learned a lot about the marriage traditions of the time...Now, I really loved how they handle "little" James not being healed by Jesus, but this looks like overreaching...there was no need for that, the show is great as it is, no need to add shock scenes just for have something to talk, which is what you (the creators) want, but the point should be about Jesus and not about what He (supposedly) didn't do regarding His closest friends and followers.

The issue here is the games being played with Jesus' CHARACTER. I'll repaste the comment I made elsewhere here: Even as a Catholic, I've always defended the Chosen for their creative liberties from the attacks of others, some of whom are Catholic, but I cannot defend this episode. Nope! This was incredibly in bad taste, not because Rama died but the way these people seem to just casually project their own very flawed character traits onto Christ. I can defend Jesus choosing not to heal Rama (perhaps), but I cannot defend him standing there watching her die from a distance and not even giving her a single word of comfort as she died, not kneeling over her, closing her eyes, praying for her as she transitioned to the other world, assuring her that he would make all things well and this was not the end, and kissing her forehead as she died. He. Was. Her. Rabbi!!!!!!! If he had prayed then opened his eyes after getting the "Not this time" from his Father, then comforted her this way, it'd be sad but still in keeping with his character. But the way they did it feels like a Hollywood gimmick for shock value. Heck, even our flawed, sinful priests know how to comfort a dying person better than the Chosen's Jesus did in this episode! Did Jesus behave like Rama's spiritual Father or even her Rabbi in this episode? Nope. Think of Aragon comforting Boromir as he died after sacrificing his life to save the hobbits at the end of the Fellowship of the Rings. That's how a good and holy person treats a dying person. They don't stand at a distance and watch them go as if they're a stranger watching the scene of an accident by the side of the road. The Chosen had Our beloved beautiful Lord behaving like the Priest and pharisee he warned about in his parable of the Good Samaritan instead of like the Good Samaritan, and this with his own dying disciple! Not even a stranger beaten by thieves on the road. Honestly, shame on them! They injected their own character flaws onto Jesus in this episode and had him acting in a way contrary to how the Bible and even their own show has portrayed him. Rama was his disciple! She left her own Father and everything to follow him and he became her spiritual Father, killed basically for him in this episode, and yet he reacts worse than even a basic friend would react. I'm not angry about her death. I'm angry about the gimmicky nonsense they seem to be getting up to with Jesus' character. What Priest did they consult for this episode? They claim they consult theologians, pastors, and priests. All I can say is if the Priest okayed this episode, knowing the work priests regularly do with the dying in hospitals and other places, shame on him, too! Someone elsewhere said, given we've already done this before with Little James and Peter's baby, what was the point? It's like they saw it worked before and just can't be creative? Another comment under another video suggested they could've had Reyma married off by her Father to another, richer man. She would not have returned to Capernaum but sent a letter to an eager, hopeful Thomas telling him she had seen her Father's wisdom and chosen to go with it and allow Thomas to follow Jesus and hoped he would understand. Jesus would've accepted this and not agreed with Thomas about "doing something." Then this would've been about Thomas's broken heart and Jesus loving him back to Spiritual health instead of Jesus being portrayed like a bad shepherd
@johns75305 ай бұрын
Yep, you are right. Nowhere is it written that Jesus withheld healing from anybody apart from lack of faith. If it were true to character he would have healed her. Totally unnecessary murder that is nowhere in scripture. I'm all for some creative freedoms but not if they're basically making stuff up out of thin air that isn't particularly inspiring or well thought out. Having said that, I think The Chosen has a large audience and has almost undoubtedly brought at least a couple people to Christ, so it's hard to argue with that outcome. I think it is still a net positive even if I agree with your points.

JUST AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Even Dallas Jenkins said that one of his loyal co-worker's had an issue with the end of Season 4 Episode 3: with Ramah's death. One of his female employee's, who has loyally stood by his side since day 1; suddenly had to deal with the story line in this episode. Dallas states in the live stream (after posting Episode 3 of Season 4) Dallas shared that this employee was horribly upset with the scene of Ramah's murder and Thomas grief. When Jesus basically says; "I'm sorry...." etc, etc. She turned to Dallas and stated (the exact same thing I was thinking as I watched the scene) "This isn't my Jesus..." and walked away. I agreed with her 100%!!!! It was cruel!!!!! I had prayers answered that I knew only God would be able to set right....if he takes care of small things...he takes care of large things. I also know the story of how Paul asked the Lord to remove the "thorn" three times and the Lord said no...but this one was deliberately cruel. Dallas should have found another way to deal with the "Ramah story". It ruined the show for me. I am glad others are able to deal with it...good for you! But I hated it and it may be a long while before I can watch the show again. I have enough problems in my own life...to have it intensified by a show I once loved and gave me hope.

It is sad, but we all had hope and still do. Life is hard, it is not always easy. Sometimes we have to be grateful for unanswered prayers. I lived my whole childhood hoping and praying for a healing that would never come. It took me a long while to realize that like James, God does not always answer our prayers, because he has other plans for us that we can not forsee. In the spirit world in heaven and in God's eyes all is brought together. It is one big puzzle and one day we will see it complete. That is what I believe. Many times I have lost family members and although I prayed for them to be healed, it did not happen. Even the scars I have from a very tragic fire at age 3. Third degree on 75%. I am good now. I accept it and know that in time, my eyes will be completely open and I will understand. God Bless.

Thanks for your teaching, Brandon. However, can you explain why The Chosen places the healing of the blind man in Capernaum instead of Jerusalem? Doing this meant there was no Pool of Siloam to wash in as Jesus commanded, so a bucket of water was brought in for that purpose. Why change the Biblical text in this way?

Imagine a scene: Matthew 27:52 happens and Ramah comes wandering back to Thomas? "And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose" Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

The Pharisee, wouldn’t believe because that would mean they give up their power among the Jewish people instead of believing and doing what’s right and spread the good word of Jesus.

John 7 tells us that the "people" (the masses, the crowds, the populace) were swayed and deceived by others. JC wanted those who were truly believers to disassociate themselves with those masses and creators of illusions. JC demanded free thinking and purity of mind. It wasn't tricks or illusions, but power and true Godly spirit by which He was able to demonstrate His authority. John adds commentary regarding the Spirit as well. When considered against the Scripture, I have found "The Chosen" to be the absolute best production and portrayals.

What I noticed is that they made Jesus look bad when He did not heal Rema. I HATE it when they go non scriptural and make Him look bad, and they do it often.

Isn’t that how we see Him and The Father went we receive a no to our prayers? People literally missed the mark of what this episode was about

Dallas goes into this at length in the last livestream on The Chosen channel - and even deeper in an earlier livestream, entitled "We need to talk" Also, remember that this is only one episode, there's more to come ....

Very Disappointing season , making Jesus culpable for her death and pleading sorry for her death, Rema was a fictitious character, people who doesnt know christianity and Bible will believe it.

If they believe it then that is on them. Dallas clearly says this is not word-for-word Bible scripture. But it is based on the life of Jesus and his disciples. All of this is possible. Not much is known about them, so otherwise he would not have a unique show. He would just be scripting words from the Bible, like every other Bible show. It is called THE CHOSEN FOR A REASON..This series has brought the life of these characters into possibility. Shown in a way no others have thought of. God Bless those who are curious enough to go to the Bible and read for themselves..this brings that hope and wonder, giving inspiration to do your own research. God Bless.

This was the most painful for me just as when Thomas saw the raising of Lazarus from the dead and why he could not understand why not Ramah. But these stories are our lives and the teachings of Jesus that have come alive when they were laying dormant to us that have heard them before often times and from teachers of religion in all churches.

Is there someone in the Bible who asked when he was present and he said no? I couldn't find that. On the show, he didn't with Eden and James which was done well (but all poetic license) He brought back people from the dead, who will eventually die again which was remarkable and cured sick and lame. I get why Dallas wanted to do it, but it didn't move me the way so many other segments did. I felt it coming, so much emphasis on her and Jesus acted odd when they asked him to stand up for them.

I suspect that they just ruined the series when they killed off Ramah, this wouldn't have happened. Jesus was always in complete control even to his crucifixion, had it happened he would have healed her. We need the real Jesus to come.

Why is it important for individuals to consider both the negative and positive aspects of life before making decisions? Well, if we only look at one side of life it's like looking only one way before crossing a two-way street. Life has two sides just as a two-way street does, ignoring either side is not recommended. Would you cross a two-way street relying on faith or looking only one way before crossing it? If we choose to cross a two-way street without looking or looking only one-way before crossing it shows that we are willing to jeopardize not only our own life but others as well. Making life decisions based on assumptions is considered a gamble. Sometimes we may not have time to question some decisions but most of the time we do. If we refuse to question decisions especially if we have time to do so shows that we are not interested in being the best that we can be and are willing to gamble away our life or another...

If the writers of The Chosen did this to Raima, a made up character, I believe Tamar, another made up character, and black woman will have a similar or worst fate. According to the Bible, Mary of Magdalene, Joanna and Susanna were the women who followed Jesus. We shouldn't add to nor take from God’s Word. I have now CHOSEN not to watch this SHOW anymore after this episode.
