I think the point was missed at the message between the song transitions. It isn't saying that stoicism or masculinity are harming men (and I really wish we could have a genuine discussion about this without people being scared of or fixated on the shallower parts of the labels behind words). A quick look into the themes and messages of both Mick and JID makes it clear they don't feel this way. What the statement talks about is a systemic issue that has been cross-culturally built up for thousands of years. A "patriarchy" isn't a group of strong-willed men nor an exact specifier of how men necessarily act. It's a power structure that relies on oppression to maintain dominance. When they say it requires men to kill off parts of themselves and their emotions, this is not an exaggeration. This is not a healthy system to fall upon to help regulate emotions, especially when we already have thousands of years of consistent history showing its destruction. This is relevant to the bigger picture of the issues they often talk about, and I feel the guy in the glasses got the closest to the point as the video proceeded. When the other guy started fixating on "the matriarchy," while I understand why some men come to the conclusion that this is happening, I realized that the point was sorta being walked around at that time. If one can so clearly see a matriarchy rising but struggle to understand an actual power construct with historical dominance that is a part of almost literally every aspect of our lives at this point, then one may even argue that this is symptomatic of the issue being discussed in the first place. The message is being spread in the first place because people are unaware of this. If it was already understood from the get-go, the debate surrounding it would perhaps be less heated. That's how normalization works. People fight against it because it's not normal to them. So instead of genuinely processing the message, people often jump immediately and emotionally towards an appeal to some other issue where they feel they have more accurate words to offer. To draw that parallel to a matriarchy requires one to not understand the depths of patriarchal systems and history, because there is no systemic comparison across genders (isolated events of women holding power is not an example of a matriarchy, for example). Women can influence, but it's rich white men writing in the laws. Not to mention, our society won't let women do something with any level of power unless it somehow yields profit to a corporation. The same thing can be said for the LGBT+. If they are represented in the media or seem to be rising to power contrary to the common people in power, it's because someone interested in profit made that call. Thus, it isn't really "giving" them power. It's exploiting them due to the inherent fact that the negativity society throws towards them generates wealth from entertainment and controversy, and by proxy giving them the "privilege" to have a few minutes on screen to "maybe" have their story told with any level of honesty. And naturally, when they get a couple of scraps, society at large acts like they stole all the food. At some point in time, society does this with almost any minority group it can find. To close off my point, we can and should handle these issues without blaming women.
