Cursed one is Trebi->georgia->persia, georgia "mountain defence", with persia -dev cost reduction on mountains, make mountains into most value proivince typ in the game.

Could you do the Greco Georgian culture if you clicked the event but kept it open while you flipped to Georgian?

It changes to that anyways after forming Georgia but you just don't get access to those events converting Anatolian provinces from Trepezuntine missions. Maybe it's possible, honestly not sure.

Would moving your capital to Jerusalem also allow you to play through them and their mission tree and then into Byzantium?

you'd need to be Catholic for that and it's not worth it, the mission tree is really weak

You need to accept and make Georgian your primary culture after you defeat them early game also make sure not to complete one of the trebizond missions which moves georgian into Greco-georgian culture group otherwise the decision also disappears
