Hi Ladies. Hubby has been working in construction since he was 11, he's 58 now. He told me that if you plan on using that fireplace that Alex found, you need to heavily wash the brickwork (where the fire goes) with a vinegar/water solution three days in a row before you light a fire, otherwise it is very likely to explode into the room raining fiery shards. Please be careful. Checking in from West Point, Virginia, USA.

I am from North Carolina, USA. I have visited Scotland as part of a cruise and would love to come back for an extended stay. I love to go poking around old house sites looking for rubbish treasures left by generations before. Old basements are the best. I have found marbles, buttons, saltglaze pottery, canning jars, iron firedogs, horse brasses, and a great variety of bottles. These are all treasures to me. I love to be able to come along and share your adventures. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us across the Atlantic.

I was excited to see the bricks with words on them, I noticed it before you did! Because I had a friend who collected bricks like that. He called them "named bricks" and he had hundreds of them. He and friends would go hunting for them across the US bringing back all they could find. There’s even a club here in Southern California of brick collectors. One meeting was held on his property and I went, the collectors gathered and traded with each other their duplicates. My friend had enough of them he built a beautiful patio at his home using all the old named bricks. It’s so interesting to see and read all the names. I wish my friend could see this video, but he has passed on. I suppose the club is still in existence though. They would be thrilled to find all those old bricks there! Like finding gold to them. I have a small collection of named bricks myself that my friend gave me and I have them lining a corner in my patio.

Hi Gail and Alex! That butterfly broche is stunning!💙🩵 Putting new enamel on it will take the raw beauty away, and in my humble opinion, that's just what makes it so beautiful. I hope you can re- find the insulator with the copper wire. That was quite an interesting piece. And I loved the little Armani bottle. Simple, but beautiful. I hope you have a wonderful week, filled with stunning finds and lots of sunshine! Saying hi from the Netherlands 🤗 🇳🇱

My uncle used to own a gravel pit business and my cousins and I used to find holes like that with birds in them. I don’t know what kind of birds they were. We kids found lots of cool fossils too. Wish I still had them. Nice video. Thanks.

I've been experiencing the same summer weather you have, since I live quite close by in Belgium. Every time you talk about the weather, I say to myself, Yep, that's what it's like right now. Only I really adore cold, rainy weather and hate sunny, hot weather. When it's sunny and hot and I'm miserable, I try to remind myself that some (most?) people really enjoy it, so it's good for something, so when it's cold and rainy and you're miserable, maybe you can console yourself that one of your subscribers is simply luxuriating in it.

Another wonderful place you took us. All those bricks there ,different brick makers .Shows there was dumping even all those years ago. Most of those briks have their own story like this one too,but unless your into architecture and building it would be a bit dull.If you however look at some of the older buildings as you pass by them, they are built with smaller ,and sometimes thinner bricks than we use now. There is no doubt a whole history there in itself lol.Modern bricks are much lighter and easy to break.Hence the home will never last like the old ones from the past have. Sad really isn’t it ..Nice finds today girls..Love to you both 🥰

I loved this lark. Such an intersting place to go larking. Unusual finds that keep getting washed from the banks of the river. Im not a collector of bricks, but i have a past relative that used to make bricks in 1838-1896. The bricks they made went to make Twemlow Viaduct, Twemlow. Beautiful red bricks, made in a builders camp at the site. His name was John Walkden with his brothe William. Its an amazing sight to see. Id love to see bricks made by him. (Ubuilt) Problem is, if they are used you cant see any names. I wonder if the broches you found belonged to one person. Thrown out when they passed away. I'd love to see you make up the thistle Gail. Adding a stem leaves and dome details to the thistle head. That would be so interesting to watch. Plus the enamelling of the butterfly broach. Im sure it would be easy to add a new pin. That was a lovely find. I'd definitely go back for the lost item. Such an unusual colour. Thanks for taking us with you. Xx
