This is what I think of when I hear the term “natural horsemanship”. To build a relationship first and slowly develop the trust so the horse is willing and eager to participate. Very inspiring! Hope you all are still doing well!

I am totally amazed by you, & the courage & willingness to explore & take daring adventures! It touches my heart to see the love you have for all your dear animals. I was lucky to live in Northern Scotland at a wonderful community called Findhorn in 1981. Watching your video of going to the Highlands with two of your untrained horses brought wonderful memories back to me of Scotland. I am watching every video you have made or will make. You are such an inspiration to anybody who loves animals & loves adventures. Thank you for sharing yourself, your wonderful animals, & your exciting adventures. How lucky your animals are to have you. I wish I could live in the English countryside like you.....maybe in my next life time!! Best to you, Pamela

Very moving. More and more I've come to appreciate the gentler, more slow paced, training methods seemingly more employed by women trainers. Shouldn't come as a shock to me because back when I worked with horses I worked with some who preferred women over me and I was a much less aggressive male trainer.

I bought my first Highland this year, and now I'll never have any other breed. They're so brave, gentle, and kind - not to mention beautiful, strong, and hardy! Mine is still young, but I ride out alone with him into the mountains all the time and feel completely safe with him. He's much like Hector - bombproof from the start. He bonded with me completely on the first day, but from what I gather, that's just the nature of the breed. I love them so much! Congratulations on your boys, by the way! They're lovely!

That's just the nature of the Highland pony. When I was working at a trekking centre in the 70's, they would bring unbroken ponies off the hill, down at weekends and I would have them carrying trekkers by midweek! They're really solid and not flighty in the least. If you just act like you have everything in control they go along with it (which is the basis for all horse training...convince them you're the leader and they follow your lead). No big deal. But I would still love to do this, the weather and everything else is so unpredictable that I think she is a brave girl!

Im doing this with my apendix quarter horse. He has been ridden and all that, but not in a while, and he tends to have behavioral issues while riding. So what I'm doing it going out early in the morning out to our big farm and we're spending the whole day out there just leading him through water, over bridges, through the woods, open fields, etc. We're gonna pack a lunch and just chill and see what happens. It probably won't have results like yours, but it's a bit of a start I think, idk I hope so lol. Edit- Today I took him and we spent 4 hours hiking through our farm crossing wooden bridges, mud, water, gravel, going up and down hill, walking in big open fields. He did so good, he loves a good trail ride... think he was a bit confused why we weren't riding lol. I felt by the end of the walk we were a bit more connected... I felt that if I wanted to push thing I could hop on him and ride him back to the trailer, though I didn't. So of course I didn't get as close to him as she got to her horses, but this is a really good way to start off your training with a horse. My mom and I are going to take him camping and do this off and on for three days to further this bonding and start of out relationship.
