I think there was two strategies the U.S. military was trying to pull off. One was a kill box where the military mix units of Army, National Guard, and Marine Corps in the valley were meant to draw the aliens in for the units that was sitting on other side of the hills to sit up on the hill and alongside the air force was to hit them hard. The other strategy was most likely a defensive one where one of the many units we saw here was meant to rush to breach point in the defensive lines and hopefully close the breach with Air units doing the same. The civilians was an unexpected element, but the units made the ultimate call to try to give the civilians a moment to run before being overrun. 3: Another strategy I thought of after giving some thought was the U.S. units here were trying to employ a form of mobile defense where the units trying to tactically moving between different positions hoping the alien’s weapons had limited range and that different units could coordinate with each other in the hopes to at least to distract the tripods and hopefully bring down their shields to have a kill shot. What we saw was the tail end of that strategy and last units saw the civilians and they made the call to stand their ground in hopes the civilians can get at least.

I think something interesting to note is that not only was the US Army able to hold their position for any length of time, and didn't simply crumble before the Tripods immediately, as well as the deployment of Uber Pods (stronger Tripods for those not in the know) implies that the aliens did suffer casualties along the way, we just didn't see them. Therefore, I don't think the Tripods are completely invincible, even with their shields.
@dejanjakobovic9803
@dejanjakobovic9803 Жыл бұрын
My guess is that the army planted mines after finding out that the tripods were armed with energy barriers, or the artillery combined with the gunships just overwhelmed some of the invaders. Another interesting fact: The concept art of the battle depicts about 7 tripods engaging the US Army.
@foundationgamer9771
@foundationgamer9771 Жыл бұрын
@@dejanjakobovic9803 I think the most likely cause for the majority of alien casualties is Main Battle Tanks using APFSDS shells. This is because APFSDS rounds contain no explosive filler. If what the reporter said is true, the shields cause the rounds to explode too early, so they don't do any damage. A lack of explosive filler is a good way around this. This falls in line with why humans can still be picked up and captured (said captured humans moving at a low velocity while entering the Tripod) while the shield is active, yet a low velocity projectile like a grenade still explodes. This means the shield works by setting off the fuse/explosives within a projectile, it doesn't work by blocking high velocity objects impacting on it.
@entropybear5847
@entropybear5847 Жыл бұрын
@@dejanjakobovic9803 short of pure fantasy it's a safe guess to assume that with enough force applied, any shield can eventually be overloaded (broken through). If I was the general in charge of the battle, I'd simply have all forces possible focus fire on the weakest looking tripods until something happened, so I can imagine a pod or two might have been focused down.

Also the fact their machines are buried was considered a plot-hole. Just figured it out. But if they sent the machines as robotic probes ahead of an interstellar fleet of living aliens (they didn't terraform with the probes because they wanted living aliens to oversee the process) then it makes a little more sense they were buried. Although the fact humans never found one in all our generations of digging seems a bit odd.

This is something that I thought was cool in a (very) non canon video game I saw based on this movie. You can command your troops to only engage with a single tripod for like 20 minutes straight, and eventually the shield collapses. But the amount of ammunition and lives spent taking down the shield makes it non feasible.

My theory is the shields can be brought down in extremely small sections. Pretty much however the aliens desire. That’s how the heat rays are able to pass through without just being stopped by the shields and also how the tentacles were able to leave and bring people inside the shield bubble also. A tactic I think could be tried is trying to predict when the aliens are about to fire their weapons and see if you can get a well timed rocket inside the hole before they shoot.

Would an emp work, since the shield is energy generated by the machine? Also, how exactly is the shield working when humans can get "inside" the protective area of the tripod, when they're captured? Also, the first tripod in the movie steps on a car and breaks it by physical contact/impact (the car is not crushed before the contact with the "leg" by the invisible energy shield) and the body of the tripod also smashes through buildings, without those buildings being destroyed prio to contact with the "body" of the tripod (therefore not by the energy shield). Therefore, the energy field is not generated all the time, just on alert to be activated//generated by a projectile of some kind. So, what is the "dance" between the energy shields and things (heat ray, misiiles, captured humans) entering and exiting the protective area of the tripod? Either there is some sort of time window when a projectile can pass through and hit the main body or if a tank could get directly below the tripod (without being destroyed beforehand) and fire upon the main body, the projectile can reach and destroy the tripod.

im not a mechanic or anything of that kind, however i know that there are some safety measures for military vehicles, or even the aircraft of the US president, that would rather make a EMP useless or just useful for a few seconds... maybe the call of the Lt. there ("no effect on target!") could be an small EMP bomb within distance to the Uberpods, but not to the military maybe the tripod sensors work like an iron dome and therefore activate by detected threats, or its just a generated like umbrella and theres a small spot, maybe they just deactivade the shields when harvesting

3:00 I may be wrong but the supposed "Apaches" are probably AH-1 Cobras. Specifically one of the older models as it has only 1 exhaust at the back meaning its definitely not aj apache as the Apache has two engines and two exhausts. In thr enxt shot when you see the helicopters opening fire, it is evident that the canopy seems long and curved st the front snd more straight towards the end of the canopy much like the cobra. But gst is just me, I might be wrong. However, in the same shot at 3:58 when they fire their weapons. Play it at 0.25x speed and pause at the helicopters when they fire their weapons, it is seen that they mount a small machine ne gun in the very front of their nose just underneath the optics which could be seen in the Cobra too. For the other Cobra in the shot rhat was the second closest to the camera, it has two intakes mesning two engines, what I would think this would be is the later models such as the AH-1W that has the two intakes but thebitnakes are vertically long so it cant be the AH-1Z. I know that this is such a minor mistake but I just cant help it :>

The military is powerful enough to take down warrior and harvester tripods, but against Uberpods, they stand no chance. Uberpods have a stronger hull and a stronger shield. The Martian emperor/leader definitely wouldn’t send commander class tripods weaker or as the same strength as warrior and harvester class tripods. Doesn’t matter how advanced and powerful the Martian civilisation is, loosing a Martian commander is devastating, just like loosing a human commander in any wars and battles.

Technically there is no such thing as impenetrable armour or indestructible tripod. Unless they come from another universe, the force applied to the tripod's hull from all the shots would melt the inside or crack it simply with physics. That's why bulletproof armour against 50. Cal is useless. Also, the tripods would weigh a lot more if they were made of steel thick enough to survive modern tank rounds. Best they can do is something like 500mm, and I suppose they pretty much never bothered adding armour to the hull since they relied on their shields for most of the time. This means they either are less technologically advanced in that area compared to humans, they're dumb or they thought we didn't have a powerful army.
