Ans 2. As the human population expands and natural habitats shrink, humans and animals are increasingly coming into conflict over living space and food. The man-animal conflict has become the main threat to the continued survival of many species in different parts of the world and is also a significant threat to local human populations. According to data from the union environment ministry more than 1,608 humans were killed in conflict cases involving tigers, leopards, bears, and elephants between 2013 and 2017. Why in news? A pregnant elephant had died in the district of Palakkad, Kerala after she consumed pineapple laced with explosives. This incident triggered a mass outrage in social media. These explosives-filled fruits are actually baits to counter the wild boars in the area where they are considered a menace. Why Man and animal conflict take place? Loss of natural habitat: It is shocking to know that only 5% of the country's geographical area is in the protected area category. As the human population is increasing there is more exploitation of natural habitat. Let us understand that a male tiger needs an area of 60-100 sq km but due to the less availability of land many times its not possible to let the tigers have all the required areas they need. This results in territorial animals not having enough space within the reserves and their prey does not have enough fodder to thrive on. The tremendous increase in infrastructure development: Last year in July the centre government approved the construction of the largest dam in India in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. This world's largest concrete dam is to be built on the Dibang river, As per the environment ministry’s clearance report sent to NHPC in May 2015, the total land requirement for the project is 5,349 hectares. More than 2.7 lakh trees will be destroyed. Besides, it underlined that the proposed site is a prime habitat for animals such as hoolock gibbon, elephants, Mishmi Takin, clouded and snow leopard, fishing cat, and mithun among other species. The project site is also close to Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary. From this instance, we can understand that recent relations in norm to allow building multipurpose project even at the cost of destroying the natural habitat. What can be done? High time to revisit Gadgil report: The commission is formally known as Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel (WGEEP). The commission submitted the report to the Government of India on 31 August 2011. The proposed report was more eco-friendly and was labeled favourable to the environment and environmentalists and not development. Ministry of the environment has not taken any decision on this report yet, instead, they came up with two more committees! - Efforts can be taken to better wildlife management practices and understanding of animal behaviour. So that people don't kill an animal out of panic. - Better compensation and crop insurance: The enraged farmers are filled with hatred against these animals due to the huge loss incurred. Hence, they find ways and means to trap and kill these animals so the government should intervene and look for alternative solutions such as the crops should be insured and compensation should be paid to the affected farmers. - Scientific culture is the need of the hour: The government needs to adopt science-based policy measures by creating a soft landscape, by creating migratory passages especially in and around the protected areas.

India as one of the "mega-biodiverse" countries with about 8% of world's biodiversity has a pristine gift and an equally compelling responsibility. In the wake of the 'unprecedented economic race' for -industrialisation -urbanisation -modernisation it has been witnessed that development has been "sequestered from sustainability." Departure from scientific means have resulted at the expense of "Impact Assessment" on account of- (i) Population- with about 2.4% of land, India has to cradles about 18% of the world's population. (ii) 'Globalisation' and it's associated capitalistic culture of 'Consumerism.' (iii) Political and corporate nexus- where getting permissions on objected and damaging projects have been made possible. The most consequential impact of such projects are 'encroachments' on habitats and migratory corridors of animals, hampering their natural movement as well as 'access to suitable means of sustenance.' The evident result is rising human-animal confrontation where animals enter in what are converted into human settlements and result in the damage to both the sides. It is the need of the hour that concrete steps are taken to demarcate the boundaries such as the Madhav Gadgill committee report's recommendations. 'Sustainable development' with utmost importance to impact assessment on environment, natural resources, wildlife as well as human beings is pre requisite to a harmonious co-existence.

Ans-1 US and China are two largest economies of world, as tension escalate further it might lead a new cold based on 5G, space, economics & trade etc. b/w two major block. Various reason for emergence of conflict and loss of trust are : • US intervention in Hongkong and recognition of SPA (special administrative right) and special right to trade , US engagement with other nation countering china like QUAD , WHO ( held china responsible for covid-19) ,G7 ,etc • US always used to look China a close allies of Russia and loss trust gain. • China challenges hegemony of US as China increase it presence in south-China sea by extending its territorial content, building military bases, manufacturing hub of globe , trade route like BRI ,CPEC ,string of Pearls etc. Coordination and cooperation in required in world diplomacy, both countries should come forward and negotiate with each other in order to build mutual trust. Yes geo- political rivalry present a binary choice for India b/w US and China but India being a autonomous and sovereign region , a balanced choice should be taken out based on multilateralism in order to maintain strategic and decision autonomy in our foreign policy to deal with globe. Our foreign policy is "INDIA FIRST" and connect to world in all term strategically, politically, economically and socially. • Mutual cooperation and coordination with China as per Panchsheel agreement is needed in order to secure our border and reduce border tension. • US is close allies with India and connected through various platform like LEMOA , QUAD etc so India should negotiate with US for healthy relation with both. India should prioritise our goal like "Atmanirbhar bharat ", "Made in india for rest of world " , "geo- political connection with emerging economies " etc during such escalating tension in order to grow further and establish it's own position in World.

Human-wildlife conflict (HWC) occurs when animals pose a direct and recurring threat to the livelihood or safety of people, leading to the persecution of that species. There are many factors that are responsible for the conflict, like habitat fragmentation or shrinking of habitat, (Only 5% of India’s geographical area is in the protected area category. This space is not enough to have a full-fledged habitat for wild animals) human intervention in natural habitats, decreased prey breed, etc. For instance, the recent incident in which a mother elephant was killed in silent valley national park, kerela, by locals. And death of 4 tigers in goa due to poisoning. the Ken-Betwa river interlinking project will submerge 100 sq. km of Panna Tiger Reserve. According to data from the Union environment ministry, more than 1,608 humans were killed in conflict cases involving tigers, leopards, bears and elephants between 2013 and 2017. There should be a balance between industrial development and ecology, so that proper space is given to both human and animals. Natural, harmless and scientific methods should be used to keep animals away from crops, rather than killing them. Many committees had been formed like kasturirangan Committee, Gadgil commitee etc to find a solution for this ecological crisis. But, some States rejected this report, favouring industial development. MAn and animal conflict is a serious problem that should be tackled with scientific and harmless approach.

With a new kind of cold war brewing between US and China, both countries should rebuild mutual trust. For India, this geopolitical rivalry presents a binary choice between the US and China and is likely to test India's capacity to maintain strategic and decisional autonomy in its foreign policy. Evaluate A new cold war is at the brim of its occurrence between US and China. US being the world largest economy and China being the second largest and fastest growing economy. The question of hegemony between an established superpower and an upcoming superpower has led to the brewing of new cold war. The cold war before that occurred between the then superpowers US and USSR was a matter of ideological differences and it was not in a position to resolve under negotiation and talks. And it only ended with the collapse of USSR. The world then was a bipolar.But now the situation is different. There are more powers all over the world. Though US still holds a slight hegemony it is not in a position of complete monopoly. The rise of China and other powers have diminished the autonomy of US. The western countries of Europe such as France ,UK ,Germany and the asian powers such as Japan, India, South Korea and the countries like Russia and Australia. All of these countries are having a significant position in the World and its affairs. And they are improving day by day to a more strengthened position.But it is China that is having an aggressive policy and it is growing much faster than others and paving way to take away the hegemonical position of US. China with its exponential growth both in economy as well as military section has shown the strength to demonstrate its power and question the American autonomy. All other powerful countries of significant strength have not yet shown this courage of opposing US. Now this is what led to hostile relation of US towards China. And retaliation and asseriveness of china have all the more quickened the brewing up of the second cold war. The recent outbreak of the Pandemic in China which spread all over the world and had devastating effect on other countries. On the other hand Chinas handling of the pandemic and lack of transparency in this regard have made other counries to think .US was keen to question and blame China in this matter and increase the tension and upbring the issue against China amongst other world powers. On the way to forward against China , US have made many decisions which publicly blame China and upbring the issue in international organisations and have made many restriction together with its allies against China on its trade matters such as its 5G network as a way to hinder and block its exponential growth. And US is trying to bring other powers such as Russia ,India ,Australia etc together as its allies on a intention to isolate china. China on the other hand have not yet clarified the issue over the outbreak in its Wuhan and instead it has blamed US for the pandemic and asked not to blame China over its ineffcient handling of pandemic. China have also not stopped its aggressive policy. That is even at the time of pandemic china has indulged in activities of border disputes and other territorial claims. These activities of China have made the world suspicious of China that did china bring up these pandemic themselves as a way forward for their growth and supremacy. At this time , things are not very clear.But countries all over the world especially US is having a very bad time with China and the way it seems for the beginning of next cold war. Now this is were India is having a problem.To choose sides.Over the years India has maintained its strategic autonomy to be specific after the collapse of USSR. Then India had tied with USSR with its socialist views. But later on India has stood upon personal interests. But now, there has come a situation where US has offered and invitation to join the existing G7 to make it G11 along with Russia,Australia and South Korea. India has been concerned for a long time over its International recognition and voice and the entry into the proposed G11 could be greater step towards this. But this proposal from the Trump administration has come under the intention of opposing and isolating China. Thus accepting the offer would be choosing side against China and this would result in tensions with relation to China. India being a neighboring country to China amidst the present border disputes it is a matter of great concern also. However , on the way forward to International recognition and voice India has to take up the offer even at the cost of deterioration of relation with China. And also being an ally to other world super powers also gives India an advantage over China issue.
