Gary Hinman was the first victim of the "Manson Murders" or the "Helter Skelter" murders of 1969. His body was found on July 31. Manson, Bobby Beulsoleil, Bruce Davis, Susan Atkins and Mary Brunner were all at the scene in at 964 Old Topanga Canyon Road.

Yes Gary Hinman is one of the forgotten victims of the Manson Family yet his torture & murder was probably the most horrific of the lot given the time period over days he was held captive. The canyons and hills that surround LA fascinate me, I could watch a drive through them anytime. Great video Scott, ty

Back in the 80's I'd read 'Helter Skelter' at night in bed, while my 2 boys and husband slept. I would get up several times to be sure the doors were locked. It was so eerie and unnerving. I could almost feel the desperation of the victims as they realized what their fates were.

@@GILBERRful Exactly 💯. I believe that Sebring and Frykowski knew Charles Manson....as does Jim Markham, a protege of Sebring's. Markham revealed in a 2019 interview that Sebring's shop on Fairfax was 'bugged' as in wire-tapped. Markham also said that he believes that Sebring and Frykowski best Manson up during a disagreement concerning drugs that occurred on Thursday, August 6, 1969....the following night the murders happened. Bear in mind that Sebring was known as the 'Candyman' in Hollywood circles. Candy as in drugs. I was shocked when it was disclosed in Brie Tate and Alisa Stratman's book, Restless Souls, that Colonel Paul Tate, during his investigation into his daughter Sharon's murder, that he discovered that Jay Sebring was $250,000.00 in debt. That was a whole lot of money back in 1969. And. Upon visiting Sebring's houseboat in San Francisco, Colonel Paul Tate saw what appeared to be drug-making paraphernalia. Believe me.... Jay was a drug dealer and he was way in over his head.

George Harrison had to fly to La. and tell the prosecutors that the Beatles did not write the song to cause civil unrest ! It was about going down a sliding board . " When you get to the bottom , you climb back to the top of the slide , and you stop and you turn and you go for a ride , then you get to the bottom and you do it again again " ! They could have twisted the words to " Over the Rain Bow " to suit their needs .

great video! what always amazes me is that these manson family hippies constantly said they were "stoned" and high on various drugs, yet look at the roads they routinely traveled during that era...winding, difficult to find locations, many times at night, and yet they were able to navigate these rather risky areas in the canyons. Your video shows the type of roads these are. Even though they hitch hiked a lot back then, they still drove various vehicles around to these locations, including the Tate house which is also not easy to find even if they'd been there before. This is what has made me doubt their claims of being so "high" that they didn't know what they were doing. People who can traverse these types of locations in a vehicle are highly focused and know what they are doing.

Love it, looks like there used to be a wooden staircase in the center of the yard from the street. I've been to Gary's grave, right next to his mom at Rosebud Cemetary in Glenwood Springs, CO. I think they were from Grand Junction originally? GWS is where Doc Holiday lived and died of TB back in the 1800s. Cool old westy town with hotsprings. Ted Bundy escaped from the jail there as well, went on to kill 4 more people, yikes

Thank you so much for your videos. They are so informative and the actual locations and the actual route the person took are incredible. I feel I'm going back in time, to 1969. Even though I was five years old at the time. The videos bring back the sadness and horror of the Manson murders, along with grief. I hope all the victims are somehow at peace. I've wondered if people who are murdered get a chance to reincarnate.

Crazy story almost sounds like a trial run, I was 14 years old during the murders and lived 30 miles away, it becomes part of your life story, I remember the fear everyone felt. It's a shame the way the victims were portrayed in the media calling it a "weirdo orgy" and alluding that they somehow deserved it for their lifestyle choices. I dont know how much more can be learned but Scott does a great job, so much we will never know for sure. If those audio tapes from Tex Watson are ever found we may learn more.still after over 50 years it is still very sad.

I read somewhere that Gary was supposed to go back to Colorado right around the time he was murdered. I don't know why he changed his mind and stayed. As for the drug-burn, I read that supposedly he had sold Beausoleil some bad mescaline and they were trying to get the money back but found out that Gary had come into a large amount of money and wanted that instead. Personally, I think Beausoleil either took the mescaline for himself or he sold it to get some quick cash. Knowing that he was in a world of deep kimschi, he told Manson that Gary sold him some bad stuff. I think everything can be traced back to Beausoleil who was not exactly the brightest crayon in the box.
@ocalagator2813
@ocalagator2813 Жыл бұрын
The bad mescaline story came out 12 years after the Hinman murder I think Manson thought Hinman inherited a large sum of money and wanted it. Susan Atkins said she was told they were going there to get the inheritance money and had not heard anything about a bad drug deal. Beausoleil supposedly admitted the bad mescaline story was a lie in 1998 but I haven't seen any confirmation of that as of yet.
@kittykatz4001

I agree. It doesn’t add up to me for Hinman to deliberately cheat the Mansons crew over some drugs sales. He treated them like friends, was kind to some of them in the past giving them $, letting some of them use his car and stay in his house etc. Also, from the descriptions of his personality etc and being kind to the Manson folks, it doesn’t add up that he would cheat them on drug sales or knowing peddle “bad “ dope to them. IK humans are capable of doing ANYTHING, including doing stuff that makes no sense, but this seems weird for him to deliberately cheat them over some dope.
@ocalagator2813
@ocalagator2813 Жыл бұрын
@@kittykatz4001 It's possible he could have sold them bad dope or been the middle man in a bad dope deal but the fact that story was never told until years later tends to make me think it's bullshit invented to make the murder look less heinous than it was. Retribution vs straight kidnapping and extortion.

I have a hard time believing that Gary Hinman really “burned” Bobby B. or the Manson “family members” with drugs. He was frequently kind to them, saw them as friends. I’m not trying to paint Hinman as an angel, but just how he is described, and his “kindness” to the Mansons, it doesn’t add up to me that he would deliberately cheat them over drug sales etc.
