101 Health Tips for Police Officers: bit.ly/101HealthTipsForPoliceOfficers What questions do you have about the application and hiring process?
@markB.Heffner913 жыл бұрын
This is Very Useful! Thank you so much. I'm slowly getting into the Police department in my Town. They don't have an opening yet but I'm Actually going into a Clarical/Clerk Position. I wanted to ask you if it's a similar process in that Area. Would you know?
@The10CodeMindset3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark! At least you are aiming to get your foot in the door. The clerk positions will probably require background paperwork to be completed by you, and I'm not sure about the polygraph. I wish I knew for sure. Hopefully you're an officer sooner than later.

How did you decide whether to pursue the county sheriff’s office over the police department? I can’t decide between the two and I’m in Detroit.. both seem appealing.

Great video. I always enjoy watching videos, reading about the process, and talking to people about the process they went through. I finish graduate school in Dec 2021. For years I have felt a calling to go into this field and I cannot wait to get out there. Thanks for making the videos and sharing valuable info.
@The10CodeMindset3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it! The goal will be two videos a week. So keep watching because it''s never too early to start preparing to get ready to answer the calling. Have you done a ride-along yet? If not, do one, or 100 like I did. :)
@rileye1773 жыл бұрын
@@The10CodeMindset yes I have! With stupid Covid going on, ride alongs have ceased in many local departments. But I’m constantly checking in to see if they’re back on

I am aiming to complete the academy at my own expense prior to applying to agencies in NJ. Doing my research I keep hearing about candidates failing the polygraph who swear they are being truthful..I just cant imagine going through all that training to be disqualified over that.
@The10CodeMindset3 жыл бұрын
Hi John, hats off to you for going through the academy on your own dime in order to become a qualified applicant. I applaud your desire. Through my experience I have not heard of people being disqualified even though they were honest. I know someone who works the polygraph and she said she has failed people who eventually admitted something that disqualified them, and there has only been one who failed and did not admit anything. If you are open and honest and do not have anything to hide, you should be fine in my opinion.

How does one decide whether to pursue the police department or county sheriff’s office? I can’t decide and both are appealing. But I will say I wouldn’t want to work in the jails for 6 months to a year, but not sure if I’d enjoy being a sheriff deputy afterward vs a police officer. I’m in Detroit too if that matters.
@The10CodeMindsetАй бұрын
That’s a really good question. I completely get it about not wanting to work in a jail. My advice would be to go on some ride alongs if at all possible and not just with one officer in each jurisdiction. But, if that’s not in the cards, consider which areas you would like to work. Are they primarily covered by the city, or county? I wish I had the perfect answer for you.
@KriskitTheSignGuy Жыл бұрын
You are right in the decision to be a police officer is if you want to make your community a better place. Because if you don’t, you’ll find the job A LOT harder. But let’s be honest. There was a little piece of you that did it because it would be cool.
@The10CodeMindset Жыл бұрын
Good point and of course you’re right about the “cool” part. The best time I had in the career was running behind my police K9 as he tracked down where a suspect had fled. Absolutely cool!
@bobg322110 ай бұрын
Well, that’s a little bit backwards of how they did it with me. I filled out my application in front of the HR department. She asked me a bunch of questions she ran. My background took copies of my ID social and my CW license I wrote on my application, and I was honest That I got arrested when I was 17 for possession and paraphernalia and I filled out all that stuff and they just called me in for an interview for Tuesday at 10 AM so I have no idea

Awesome channel thanks for the great advice! Do you recommend applying to as many departments as possible or being more select in my search? So far I have an interview with my local sheriff’s department. Some of the other ones I’m waiting to test with are pretty far.
@The10CodeMindset3 жыл бұрын
I like the phrase “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” However, do research about each department you put in for. See if you can talk to at least 3 officers in that department. Not officers with rank, but the line officers.

What’s some tips on the written part?
@The10CodeMindset3 жыл бұрын
Good morning! If you’re the only one in the room then read aloud any paragraphs you have written so you can catch any errors in your writing. If others are around, whisper it haha! Good writing shows you can complete report narratives because there is a tad bit of paperwork on the job, and yes that’s sarcasm.

2023. I’m 36. Should I start? Sacramento
@The10CodeMindset Жыл бұрын
At 36, there’s typically (without knowing your situation) more on the line such as a family, pay considerations, and more. Typically bring more life experience to the table as well, which is good. But in my personal opinion, if Sacramento was a defund the police city, I wouldn’t work there. Yes, I went off on a tangent. 36 isn’t too old at all. Take care 💪

What I'd ve more worried about is the crap ton of laws that I'll have to memorize
@The10CodeMindset Жыл бұрын
No sweat, with continued effort on your part you’ll learn them in overall sections and then break them down into the more specific crimes. And when you’re out working on your own, some of the laws you’ll encounter so much you’ll have them memorized, like larceny. Just keep learning throughout the career.

Can you make a video when to have your body cam on and when it's ok to have it off

Sure thing. But here is my basic advice: Have it on when dealing with the public. Even if it is for a person just wanting to report their lawn mower being taken. That was just an example lol And needless to say, department policy is mandatory knowledge as well 👍

Lol gtfo all that for $25hr. They are all in peoples business. Some ask to see your bank accounts
@The10CodeMindset2 жыл бұрын
Pay varies on location. Heck, cops in some states make six figures, easily. Then again cost of living and inflation are a wrench in that annual pay. What do you mean by some ask to see your bank account? They just ask because they think they can? That’s not good if so, but I’m not following about some ask to see bank account.
