One thing to think about and it's a biggie. Auditor's and Activist's are two separate things. Auditor's for the most part will sit back and observe. The biggest problem they have is not being able to get. Close enough to pick up audio. Activist are passionate about being a thorn in your foot. They rely heavily on the 1st amendment for speech. Auditor's rely on the 1st for recording for news purposes. Just keep in mind if something were ever to go sideways and the cops life is in danger, both will have your 6.

How does one decide whether to pursue the police department or county sheriff’s office? I can’t decide and both are appealing. But I will say I wouldn’t want to work in the jails for 6 months to a year, but not sure if I’d enjoy being a sheriff deputy afterward vs a police officer. I’m in Detroit too if that matters.
@The10CodeMindset3 күн бұрын
That’s a really good question. I completely get it about not wanting to work in a jail. My advice would be to go on some ride alongs if at all possible and not just with one officer in each jurisdiction. But, if that’s not in the cards, consider which areas you would like to work. Are they primarily covered by the city, or county? I wish I had the perfect answer for you.

Why the hell does it matter. Cops NEVER pay. Citizens ALWAYS pay. Cops don’t have hunches. 99% of you are egotistical tyrants waiting to use your power over citizens. Less than 1% of you are actual detective type of person who can use situational awareness, power of deduction, and knowledge to pull it off. Not that you’re not capable but 99% just don’t care. You have a badge a gun and radio; so, you can get away with ANYTHING. YOU DONT NEED TO GET IT RIGHT. Change my mind.

The auditor motive doesn't matter at all. Is what they are doing lawful or not. A good cop CAN'T be ''baited'' into doing a damn thing. They either know the Law or they don't. They either follow and respect the LAW or they don't. That a person can die because of a faulty turn signal, that someone is willing to go that far to ''enforce'' such laws, sorry, they are deeply wanting. ''Ten years ago...''??? Seriously???

First, know the law. That would certainly help and probably prevent yourself from being on the wrong end of a complaint, lawsuit, or disciplinary action. If you arent sure, dont enforce, arrest, or detain. Second, let them be. That statement is based on the assumption that you know they are an auditor. Usually, there will be a point when you realize what is going on. When you believe that any security suspicion has been dispelled, further interaction will typically escalate. Some cops feel like they are baited by auditors to create a lawsuit. Some will even mention it during the conversation or detainment of an officer. All you have to do is walk away instead of finding an excuse for arrest Third, leave your pride and ego at the door. As a police officer, you need to realize that a simple arrest can have a significant impact on a persons future regardless of the potential outcome. Maintaining professionalism and a level head will likely prevent yourself and your city from lawsuits and negative media. Also, the condescending and patronizing must stop. It juat makes you look like an ass. For example "are you a lawyer?" is usually a question that an officer will commonly place into a conversation to assert that they know more than suspect/auditor. This question is typically followed by unnecessary and condescending remarks to assert dominance. Fourth, it's ok to investigate. Your suspect might have warrants, your "auditor" might be doing something illegal, but use the facts as they present themself to come to a reasonable conclusion or clarify with any potential witneas the actions of the person in question. Fifth, get rid of the ID addiction. It's clear any most auditor scenarios that the cop quickly disregards any potential crime in place of a strong will and need to identify a person. This single minded train of action pulls you away from any potential current potential crime to focus on research into a persons past. You would be more effective and reduce your exposure by questioning witnesses or watching security footage, etc. Sixth, use discretion when using commands. Not every command is lawful. For example: "keep your hands out of your pockets". You will often get further with the person by making requests as opposed to demands There's plenty more advice where this comes from. Just be careful, don't be a bully, and treat each interaction the same as you would want another officer to treat your family and friends.

10 years ago?? Cops are constantly agitated cause ppl recording them means they can’t plant fake evidence, or break someone’s constitutionally protected rights! Cops hate when ppl know their rights,and that makes no sense! The only reason they hate it is because they want to violate someone’s rights!!
