I was a kid in the 60s and lived down the street from this park in Holidaysburg. Just loved going here.

It's amazing how over 100 years ago people thought a roller coaster like this was exciting and a technological marvel for it's time. Now we have roller coasters like Steel Vengeance, how times have really changed.

Exactly! I wanted to make the two complete opposite ride videos and I think these two show it haha

I've ridden Leap the Dips a few times, and it's actually thrilling because of how it runs. It's a weird experience having the coaster car shimming along between the rails. It feels a lot faster than its actual speed. And there are two points in the ride where the car does get some airtime, which on that structure is another thrill entirely. I really like the ride and I hope Lakemont does come back and remains operational.

Over 100 years ago in the us, this was a technical marvel. Meanwhile in Denmark. 1914. A lot better rollercoaster where build. And it is still ungoing today.

Hello Sam fantastic video on possibly the oldest roller-coaster if not the world than North America, ive only just found out about lakemont park while doing research on the informative video but leap the dips being 118 years old

Holy Moley! Over 115 years old?!? That's crazy cool! I would have never known about this if you hadn't made a video about it. This is one of the reasons I love your channel so much; so many hidden gems! Without your awesome videos, I'd miss out on all this really cool stuff!

I've rode this ride a number of times growing up as we lived near Lakemont... I don't like roller coasters and although this one isn't a big thrill, the fact that it's wood and hecken old is very scary... I didn't realize it was THE oldest though. Pretty neato.

I've been on this! I've never been on a side friction coaster before as a kid, and the way it sort of airtimed off the track was very unerving, but as a kid, I didn't think about it too much.

I actually just got back from visiting the area where the park used to be and I was shocked it closed. This was always a childhood favorite of mine and helped foster my love of roller coasters.

Can't be doing too bad when they are reopening Leap The Dips in 2020 and the park itself and have even bothered to do that. Perhaps they took too long to do needed work-definitely have seen that before. But if you've been avoiding it, 2020 or 2021 would be the time to take a revisit.
@selfishbeats4 жыл бұрын
perhaps they'd do better If they focused on building new stuff as well as keeping leap the dips intact because that's what people will come for but could stay for the new stuff.

Wow this is literally in my back yard haha. I got to ride this rollercoaster and it was awesome, in a historic way. This park has a sad history. Lakemont park Would actually make a good “expedition extinct”. I can remember sitting on my grandparents porch in the summer hearing the train whistle haha.

This coaster is reopening in 2020 after undergoing rehab and renovation since sometime in 2017. THe year where we can't even get a six flags to complete there RMC single rail that's new. There opening it when the park reopens in 2020 of all years. I have huge respect for Lakemont Park's efforts to keep this thing going, and I hope they can get another coaster sometime down the line even if it's just a family coaster (but still steel since there other coaster is a not 1902 style one XD).

I rode this! It was actually pretty thrilling due to how the cart kinda bounces around in the tracks, and due to how it is true that the back wheels leave the track, i can confirm myself as I rode it many times, though it didn't happen every time.

Grew up riding this old girl. Very nice old coaster. Lakemont was a beautiful park back in the day before it was sold and then became property of the county. We were really hoping to see it somewhat returned to the park it once was, but It does not sound like that will be the case.

This is my home town!! I'm so excited that you chose this roller coaster for your show. I loved riding Leap the Dips because it wasn't as scary as the Sky Liner which is the other wooden roller coaster in the park. I'm hoping the park does reopen for Summer 2019.

That's all cool. But the most impressive and one of the oldest is still the one in Tivoli, Copenhagen. Which is from 1914. It have dark areas and dulls build on the way. And it's a decent roller coaster. Especially for its age.
