The one and only time I visited that theater I was with a friend of mine and his girlfriend. We saw the first Indiana Jones film there. I remember seeing all the little twinkle lights on the ceiling. Remember that well. I was sad to hear that the decision was made to demolish it, instead of repair it after the Whittier earthquake. While you were thumbing through one of the annuals, I saw an ad from Quaker City Bank. My future wife found a job there when she was let go from GEMCO, La Mirada, when they closed down. We've been together for 39 years. Both proud members of the Whittier Elks Lodge.

I remember The Wardman Theater well. Back in the 60's, we had free passes. My brothers are the sons of John Bruen. We would go to all the theaters, including the Sundown drive-in, which was my favorite. I think growing up in Whittier from 1958 to 1968 was the happiest time of my life.

My friends family were the Bruen’s that owned the Whittier Theater along with the Wardman and the Roxy. My friend’s father managed the theaters for a number of years. When her father and mother were newlyweds they lived upstairs in the Whittier Theater, along with their first baby daughter. So much history there. Sad we lost it to the earthquake.

I remember well the Wardman Theater. My parents would drop me off there to see a movie in the early 70's, I remember the price was .49 cents.

You have received some treasures. I believe my mom (Helen H) graduated WHS in '43. Her sister Ruth graduated WHS in '41 or '42. I remember the theater. I was fascinated by the stars moving across the ceiling. So atmospheric. It was a fabulous place.

They had another earthquake in the 90's? We moved out of state late 1980's just missing the one that struck Uptown area. Earliest one I recall was actually in San Fernando Vally where an uncle lived, but we felt it all the way down there close to La Mirada. Knocked me right out of bed.

Nice books, great editing during a time when each page had to be designed by hand. I wonder when yearbooks went all digital? The one with the wood cover is really unique. I remember the theater. I rode my bike up the hill on Hadley to Whittier High School on Saturdays for tennis lessons in the early 70's.

Also at Whittier HS, they may still have the locker underneath the school where they stored Richard Nixon's High School things when he was running for president.

My experience was born in Lincoln memorial hospital Soto Street downtown LA 1951 me and my four older brothers raise and he's still a south of Laguna Park across the street Coyls SuperMmarket The 5 10 and 15 cent store ... The pastrami store where my dad climbed up on a town from pole to take the picture that you'll find at any The Hat Pastrami Restaurant ... So I went back in the '60s and the '70s that '80s and '90s and I stopped going back cuz every goddamn time I went back I got treated like s*** by my own people They said I was not East LA cuz I spoke like you without a Mexican Accent ... And no longer accept it We moved to Arcadia which was 90% white Anglo-Saxon Lutheran and Protestant and I wasn't accepted there either Thank God for white women cuz they're the only ones that accepted me as much as I was attracted to Hispanic women 90% of the women I dated almost accepted by or white Anglo-Saxons to this day not being accepted by my own people really hurts me deeply!
